nova Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Based on Retribution intensely locking down his investiture would it follow that he would also be able to prevent radiants from advancing in their oaths? On top of that if they can still swear oaths who is able to accept their words since Cultivation has left, the Wind has gonna quiet, and the Stormfather has been vaporized? 1

I feel like the bigger problem is that Taretribution would be in charge of accepting oaths. So in theory yes, they could swear oaths, but in practice Taretribution can just say “These Words are not accepted.” Unless he can’t because of Spiritual Mumbo Jumbo/Honor telling him he has to accept legitimate oaths. 2

The Wind accepted Kal's Oath. Regardless, I do believe Taravangian would be forced to accept the words if they are said with the proper Intent. 2
AlmightyGir Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 I suppose the bigger downside here being that while breaking an oath to Honor led to deadeyed spren and powerless radiants, Retribution can just disintegrate you... 1
Argenti he/him Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 It seems to me like anyone who's particularly invested can accept oaths. The Sibling, Retribution, the nightwatcher, most of the unmade (BAM and Sanj?). I also think a spren can just accept oaths anyway, like no matter what the head guy says, if the words are right, the spren accepts it. Heck dalianr accepted an oath once (Yes I know through the storm father.)
Elite01 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 It would be crazy if Navani could accept oaths even in a coma and yeah I think syl accepted one of kaladins oaths so maybe the spren can do it themselves
Nitpicking Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Dalinar shoved the Stormfather out of the way to accept Kaladin's Fourth Ideal. The Nightwatcher still exists, as does the Sibling. Some Radiants (e. g. Venli) seem to get accepted by Cultivation herself, though.

The only issue is that Cultivation abandoned the system, so that definitely is not happening back half.

Why? Cosmere magics work on planets quite far from their Shards. Again, the Sibling (whose Towerlight is half Lifelight) is still apparently strong enough to resist Retribution. And the Nightwatcher is still there, as far as we know. 2

I think the whole point is that Cultivation completely abandoned the system, because Retribution could totally kill her at that point. I don't think she would risk poking her nose back into the system without some other Shards supporting her. Plus, that would Invest her further into Roshar, and she definitely does not want to be stuck there again.

Can Navani (once she wakes up) the way Dalinar did? The Wind (once she stops hiding) the way she did for Kaladin? Will the Night return, now that the planet is under an eternal darkness? 2
