After the preview of chapter 23 was published, there has been a lot of talk about this character. And beyond the issue of his sexuality and the multiple opinions we have, I would like to put on the table the possibility that what we have seen actually leads us to a possible bond with an Ashspren and his integration into the order of Dustbringers.

I am going to make a comparison with the WoB's that we have about the Dustbringers [1][2] and Rushu's entry into the Coppermind so that you can draw your own conclusions

Coppermind

Quote

Rushu is a brilliant scholar, but occasionally somewhat oblivious to her surroundings. She does not notice hints or implied commands in others' words, it often requires a direct command and multiple promptings to get her attention and make her realize what she is supposed to do. Rushu often gets distracted as well, reading scientific reports when she should be helping with an experiment. She has trouble focusing, often wandering off on tangents and random thought experiments in conversation...

...She is particularly interested in spren research and the study of handwriting, among other things. Rushu is also a courageous person that is willing to risk her safety for her studies, as evidenced by her desire to ride on the fabrial parapet as it ascended.

WoB's

Quote

Dustbringer oaths were themed toward responsibility. They were led to understand that the powers they used needed to be properly channeled, much as their own desires and wills needed proper form and shape[...]

[...]They often attract tinkerers who like to dig down into the shape and soul of a thing, break it, and see what makes it work. However, their oaths are themed toward control[...]

They attract anyone who likes to take things apart, who likes to know how things work. They also attract those who are a little foolhardy at times—brave soldiers who see themselves as containing and controlling terrible destruction so it won’t get out of hand and hurt innocents.

Quote

A big part of Dustbringers' incredible self control comes from their quest to understand themselves and the world they live in. How does a given thing work? Why does that river flow in just that way? Why does that rock stay on that ledge? And if it falls, how will it fall? Where will it land? Why does this experience cause this emotion, and why does this word or this attitude cause this particular response? When we understand something, we can control it. We can make that rock fall exactly where we want it, or cause or avoid an emotional response in a person we're taking to. Wouldn't that be wonderful? To know yourself and your family, and the world in general, so well that you can always keep everyone happy?

Something I would also like to highlight is that in most of their appearances, there is something related to the rubies or the Flamespren (Platespren of the Dustbringers)

Quote

Rushu was also present at Navani's test of the floating parapet made with the use of reverser fabrials. She was initially distracted, reading about Geranid's experiments with flamespren, but soon focused on the project at hand. Rushu was excited that the parapet seemed to be working, but wished that she could have been on the platform itself to check the gemstones for cracks[...]

[...] When Huio flew to some nearby land to send and receive messages, Rushu gave him some aluminum plates to use in experiments when writing to her on the ship. Later, the expedition camped a night in a small cove. Rushu went to Rysn to experiment with her chair, without waiting for Rysn's permission. She explained that when Huio was playing with her spanreeds he had made an important discovery

In conclusion, I think there is a good chance that Rushu  ̷i̷s̷ ̷t̷h̷e̷ ̷K̷a̷n̷d̷r̷a̷ ̷o̷f̷ ̷R̷o̷s̷h̷a̷r̷ joining the Dustbringers.

This all just sounds to me like she has ADHD. We often struggle with focus. I doubt she's a kandra.

That's exactly how I read it - sounds like ADHD to me.

It is hard to deny that Brandon is setting up Rushu to fit the typology of a Dustbringer. Whether he will actually wind up being one depends more on whether the Ashspren decide to bond humans again. Based on what Malata said, that's what they object to.

Anyway, excellent call connecting that description to the Radiant orders description.

There's a weird trend of Dustbringers and gender stuff lol.

  • Chana: dressed in masculine garb in the art (only female Herald with armor and no safehand glove, and Pailiah is the only other one with her sword)
  • Ral-na: trans man
  • Malata: strips off her safehand glove to use her powers
  • (under this theory) Rushu: non-binary

I suppose it makes sense with the idea of breaking things apart to understand them.

Rushu is confirmed not worldhopper by B Sandy, that said, both she (they?) and Navani feel like excellent Dustbringers, feels like Navani’s second Radiant home to me.

Besides how could Rushu be the Kandra when the Kandra is clearly one of the Davar brothers.🤷🏽‍♂️
