Varel feels a vague sense of panic as his vision blurs but he keeps swimming towards the opposite coast. He starts breathing heavier.

The odd thing is, you aren’t panicked. The fish did something to you, making you feel calm.

Why should I cross? I could just stay here and re- NO. Varel thinks, weakly trying to swim across the water

Basically, they're running away from the Greenspine. Bird, who's investiture is drained (How long does that last? Is it permanent?) Is swooping around and trying to distract it.

"There are a lot of springs, which one is it?"

@J. Magi

"Uh, he said we had to find the highest one, so . . ."

She straightened and glanced around, a hand to her eyes to shield them from the sun. They'd climbed pretty high at this point. "We should be close."

As you near the peak of the island, a fairly large pool of clear water comes into view, surround by tropical trees and plants. Several rivers run from it's borders in different directions.

"Find the spring at the highest point of the island, and follow the second widest stream to the ocean. Then follow the beach to the right until you find a grotto. There's a little gift from me there.

"I only have one condition: Survive. If you make it as far as the grotto, I may make another request. But let's cross that bridge when we come to it.

"You are allowed to take any allies you have with you, but be warned; there isn't any way out for you this time, like you so kindly helped provide for the participants in the last games. Only one person can make it out of here alive. Choose wisely."

The communication cut off.

She squinted at the rivers. "Okay we have to follow the 2nd widest one back down to the ocean," Sharlin explained.

It has occurred to me that Mr. Evil might have just sent you on a wild-goose-chase for kicks and giggles.

"Meh, it's something to do with my time."

Fair.

Winter examines the rivers and eventually is fairly confident which one they want. “I think we want to go this way.” He says, gesturing at the water.

Aerol noticed a boy standing on the shore. Hey, is that you? She waved to the boy.

There are a few apple trees with ripe looking green apples.

Evan glances to the side. He doesn't see anybody, just a tree that looks to have some fruit on it.

"Maybe?... I'm still climbing down the mountain though, aren't you still by the ocean?" Evan asks himself as he grabs a few of the ripe looking apples. He stuffs three into his pocket and starts snacking a fourth one as he continues down the island.

Oh . . . so not you.

The boy in the ocean wasn't very close, so Aerol kept paddling.

Be careful; there's someone else at the shore.

Maj turns and launches his fishing pole like a javelin towards the Greenspine, hoping to maybe hit the eyes that Berin had tried so hard to attack, though knowing the vines would probably stop it.

"Murr, get out of here! It's going for me, not you. One of us needs to survive this!"

First looks at the boy. He looks kinda lonely. Feelings stir inside her, of a time before she didnt trust anyone. No. She shakes her head. He will betray you. She sighs to herself. Looking to the sky. Why can't I trust anyone to keep me safe or look after me?

She keeps paddling.

"Alrighty, now we have to follow it back down to the ocean," Sharlin explained, double-checking the selected stream was the second largest.

"Mr. Evil said there'd be a cave on down there, and that's where the gift is."

She started following the stream, cutting throw shrubbery and making her way make down the hill.

I wonder what kind of gift it is.

"I hope it's better weapons or something, I would kill for a revolver."

Knowing you, that's probably not a hyperbole.

She just grinned.

Vistari began to wish she had done something interesting with the apples.

She hadn't. They were just regular old Granny Smith.

She sighed, watching Evan make his way down the mountain. She couldn't hear what him and Aerol were thinking back and forth, but she thought she understood.

It will be quite fascinating when they meet...

I think Varels dead

As you begins to pass out, you see the seagrass. You know you should not eat them; the thought screams in your mind. The sand around them, too, is noticeably inedible.

Varel, deciding that he’s going to die either way, tries to eat the seagrass regardless of his thoughts.

The seaweed is rather unappetizing anyway, slimy and salty, but the base taste is pretty good. You notice that you are inedible now, too. The fish scatter, but you've still lost a lot of blood and are pumped full of sedative.
