“I don’t know if that’s necessary,” Naise said. “We might just need a week or two. You’d be reunited before the letters were delivered.”

"These crates are yours?" asked the inspector.

"We'll need to look inside-" he was cut off as Rye pulled out a silver seal with beautiful calligraphy written on it. "That's... that's the royal seal of the Shenai..."

"Just let me on board."

"Done." He put his hands in the air. "There have been strange scents on the air in the east. I've heard the entire continent is at war, but I bet no one west of this port knows anything about it." Rye gazed over the edge of the ship, towards grey storm clouds hovering over the sea.

"So, that's why they want me..."

“I wouldn’t ask you to do this if I didn’t think it was for the best.”

”… I know…”

Naise smiled sadly and kissed her forehead. 

Jolane turned and pulled a flower from her braid. She handed it to July.

"I . . . I'm sorry." For nothing in particular, but everything.

August's bandages were done by now, and he was shakily standing up. "You should sleep through what's left of tonight, and leave in the morning," He said grimly.

"Are you doing something different?" July asked.

August smiled. "I'm going to go ask around, someone around here will have a shovel I can borrow."

-The plan is for the party to leave for the next large city to lead the rest of the people after July and August away from Jolane and her family.

-Jolane is going to go live with her sister for a while before catching up with us for her safety

She gave him a quick hug before running back to her sister. Naise wrapped an arm around her back, and the two returned to their parents’ house. 

“How are we going to explain…” Jolane put a hand to her neck. 

“I’ll explain everything,” Naise answered. “You focus on resting. Okay?”
