Their souls feel . . . thicker than usual, still malleable but more difficult to bend.

"They aren't southerners," Kurtis explained as they ran, "Or at least not from the group we're going to deal with. Rebel groups usually wear uniforms with specific insignias--not to mention their ranks are far more organized." 

The were getting closer to the southern gates now, just a few more streets.

Arranis sees hope in front of them, in the shape of the gates, through that they should hopefully be free to roam. "Unless they have a tracker", he mumbles

Kurtis ran over and slammed his shoulder into the gate, cursing (in a very mild way--he's not a ruffian) when it didn't open. There was no padlock, it seemed they'd been sealed together with soul-magic.

They burst out of the alleyways and into a main square right inside of the southern gate. No bandits here for now.

Kurtis ran over and slammed his shoulder into the gate, cursing (in a very mild way--he's not a ruffian) when it didn't open. There was no padlock, it seemed they'd been sealed together with soul-magic.

Sleeper just grins. "You need me a lot today, I assume" and he walks over and unlocks the gate.

Kurtis turns a little red in embarrassment.

"Yes . . . well . . . er-Anyway, it does raise the question why they were sealed in the first place." He said, quickly changing the subject.

The land beyond the city walls here is thick jungle. A large road leads forward, unpaved and slowly being reclaimed by the forest around it.

Arranis looks at the mess of vines that lead to the south. He lived just north of here, and did not know that this had gotten that bad.
