“Just don’t let me talk, I’m terrible with people.” He looked at Jenny, an apology in his eyes.

Jenny wondered why Edgar was looking at her like that. Maybe he found her statement to be painfully relatable.

Roy was probably right that Harold would be their best bet. She didn’t trust Roy to not fly off the handle whenever he got mad at someone.

Aaron, Thalia's Tree

Aaron sat at the top of the hill looking down at the camp. He had always come here since his first day. Unknowingly he had been drawn to the tree, which he later found out was a girl that had been transformed by Zues. Which was odd, considering that trees were Demeter's thing.

He places his hand against the tree, trying to feel if there was something unusual about it, as he had felt human emotions stirring the day before. He felt something stirring at his touch, and he forces his magic into the tree, making it grow better, less sickly, and more leafy. He feels a glow of appreciation.

Laying back against the tree, he fiddles with his bracelet, they looked like just random ornaments, but he had the Hephaestus kids make him a magical weapon that could be disguised. In this case, it was a cavalry sword. Somewhat longer than others but still manourable with one hand.

Seeing movement near the big house, he watches as the others come up the hill towards the tree.

"I hope you guys didn't plan on leaving me behind, as I am one of the only ones that can help support you"

Aaron, Thalia's Tree

"Stop fighting you two, we need to work together to get things done, and not being able to rely upon each other is a weakness. In times like these we need to be strong." he says admonishingly. Glaring at the two of them.

"I am sure that others would.. well maybe agree with me, that if you do not behave yourselves, and stop annoying each other one or both of you will be left behind." he says next, at a quiet but powerful voice.

My character has hubris, meaning he is overconfident, Example A is above.

Sending some vines twirling around each other into crutch like formations, he gives some both to Jenny and Edgar. "Now you two will use these, or I am going to drag you along on a stretcher. I do not want anyone dying on my watch." he says, trying to sound somewhat kindly.

He looks behind him at the land beyond the tree, "Now, who is ready for some adventure."

Edgar scoffed. “I’ll never trust him, don’t tell me to rely on him after what he tried to do. You were there, you saw.” He dropped the crutch. “That won’t get necessary either, I have this,” he said, raising his walking stick. “It’s better than anything you could make.”

Jenny sighed a long sigh. She had hoped Aaron would get along with everyone well, but he was making a very poor impression. His claims of power were likely exaggerated. He was a twelve year old who had been at camp for half a year. The chances that he could ‘drag her along on a stretcher’ were vanishingly small.

That sort of misplaced confidence would be dangerous. Fancy vines that could hold down some demigods wouldn’t fare quite so well against monsters sent by the gods.

“Aaron, I’m fine. Just sore. Most of my burns are on my arms, anyways, so crutches would probably make things more painful. And we are not leaving anyone behind. Anyone by themselves would be picked off by monsters pretty quickly.”

"Hey, can't I just think in silence without being called out?" Harold says defensively. He was just thinking about when he could get his runs in on the quest.

"we will go to new york to get a buss."

“After that, we need to go to Los Angeles. There’s an entrance to the underworld there. Unfortunately, it’s about as far as you can get from here while still staying in the country.”

Although it was rather frustrating that they couldn’t use a plane to shorten their trip to six hours, she was secretly glad they wouldn’t need to go into the sky. Jenny was not a fan of heights.

“Thank you, that’s very helpful. Much more helpful than ‘take a bus’. As for the distance…well, we’ll deal with it, we have to.”

I know, I want to him to be so annoying, and to actually live up to his flaw.

Aaron, Thalia's Hill

"I didn't mean leave them behind for a monster to pick off, I meant at camp, where they are relatively safe, Do you take me for a monster?"

Well we have a goal now he thinks to himself, LA, I could try and teleport us there, but that would take too much energy. Maybe a tunnel he dismisses it instantly. "Looks like it is a bus" he says to the others somewhat miserably. As Aaron hated human built things that were away from nature.

So grabbing a handful of dirt and grass to play with along the way, sounded like the thing to do.

“I apologize for the misinterpretation.”

Hopefully Aaron wouldn’t be too annoyed by the future misinterpretations she would inevitably make on their journey together. Jenny adjusted her bag, making sure none of her daggers poked into her back. Although they were sheathed, the weapons were still pretty pointy.

Jenny started walking in the direction of New York, patting the Thalia-tree as she passed her. Ending up as a tree seemed like it was a worse fate than ending up in the underworld. Zeus didn’t particularly appreciate her father’s domain sometimes.

Edgar walked near Jenny, looking around. Most of the group seemed ok, even if they didn’t seem to care for him for the most part. But Roy and Aaron…he could barely stand either of them. Roy was an angry, spiteful, prideful kid with a short fuse. And Aaron was a stuck up, overconfident boy with a very inflated sense of self importance. Neither were people he wanted to be around. And he definitely wouldn’t let them hurt his friend in any way, physically or emotionally. So he watched carefully, ready to intervene.

That's ok, it makes ... different team dynamics. It also makes it more believable.

Aaron

Aaron glances back at Thalia one more time. "Could be awhile before we see that again" he mutters to himself. Edgar and Jenny were already starting down the hill, and he follows them. As much as he wanted to be in charge, and to make sure that they did not hurt themselves, he also had to admit, that maybe he had overdone it just slightly, actually no, only a bit.

He feels the grass around his feet growing as he walks by, and tries to suppress the effect he was having on the plants. Surely it would be noticeable to the mere mortals. Damn, only 1/2 a year and you are already thinking they are a different species, he thinks to himself. Well in some way they are.

Jenny started wondering how easy it would be to snap the haft of his spear. She could probably do it rather easily. That could wait, though. Sharp weapons were important still, even if the process required to maintain them was incredibly annoying.

With each step she took away from camp, she became a little more uneasy. Jenny hadn’t left for years, and the years before that had been spent running. She wasn’t alone this time, though. That didn’t banish her anxiety, however.

Edgar noticed her uneasiness, and walked up right next to her. He bumped her gently with his shoulder. “Hey, everything’s going to be ok. Here, if you want I can build you something to help with the noise,” he said, shooting an angry glance at Roy.

Jenny jumped slightly when Edgar bumped her. She was immediately a bit embarrassed, her cheeks reddening a bit. Normally, she never was startled. But being in an empty stretch of land and walking away from safety just felt so wrong.

“I would appreciate that. Thank you.”

She smiled despite her nervousness. That was really thoughtful of him.

He smiled back, trying to hide his worry that he’d done something wrong. She’d jumped when he’d touched her after all, maybe he shouldn’t have.

“Of course, I’m happy to help.”

He got to work, whittling a couple pieces of wood, then covering them in cloth. “These should block out most sounds,” he said, holding out a pair of rough-looking earplugs. They would be surprisingly comfortable when worn though.

Jenny took the ear plugs, marveling at how Edgar had managed to create them while walking. She carefully stuck them in her ears, and the sound of Roy sharpening his spear immediately disappeared. She sighed with relief. Jenny could hear herself think again.

“Thank you so much!”

Not knowing what else to do, she gently bumped Edgar with her shoulder, imitating what he had done before.
