She snapped off a particularly thick part of a branch and stuffed it in her bag, Timothy nearly tumbling off her head in the process. She decided to leave the dog in her lap instead for the time being. She couldn’t risk him getting broken.

He grinned just as stupidly back. His hair was greasy, almost like he had put some of the oils he used to clean machines in it. Not the best look, but fitting for a child of Hephaestus.

 He began building something again.

Now that Ed was distracted, Jenny turned away, retrieved her branch, and unsheathed Sword. She started whittling away at it, sticking her tongue out of the side of her mouth in focus. She wasn’t as good as Ed at this, but her plan wasn’t very complicated.

Jenny finished her masterpiece and oriented herself to how she’d been sitting before. She hid it behind her back and waited for Ed to finish whatever he was doing. Hopefully he’d like what she made.

He continued working, seeming oblivious. He showed no signs of stopping any time soon.

Jenny waited for a moment longer, impatiently squirming. Ed didn’t look like he was going to stop tinkering soon, so she eventually decided to tap him on the shoulder to get his attention.

He continued working for a second, then paused, looking up at her. Something seemed to leave his eyes, a fixation mixed with passion. He smiled at her. “What do you need?”

Jenny held up a smoothly carved, thin, and slightly bent stick.

”I know you like pasta, so I made you a pasta!”

She was grinning, incredibly proud of what she’d created. It was nowhere near what Ed could do, but she still was quite pleased.

He smiled. Not because the gift was incredible, but because of who had made it and what she meant by it.

That probably meant that Ed liked it. Her gift had been successful.

Jenny then went back to quietly messing with Timothy, wanting to let Ed do whatever he’d been doing without her distracting him.

Edgar went back to fiddling with his bits and pieces, the world seeming to dim around him. It was just him and his creation. Even Jenny seemed to have less of an influence on his mind.

Jenny thought for a moment.

”Do you like tinkering with stuff and making really cool inventiony things?”

If Ashton was actually a demigod, then it’d be nice to know whose kid she was. Hephaestus seemed like a good guess, based on what little she knew of her so far. Her line of questioning sounded rather awkward, but it wasn’t like anything else Jenny could say would be any less awkward.
