Beodrakis he/him Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I was chatting about the Stormlight Archive when eventually we started talking about Rhythm of War where we saw Navani create anti-voidlight, but what if you did this with ODIUM? my theory is that this would do 2 things, 1. Make an anti-odium(more about that later) 2. Make odium stronger, I feel this would happen as a form of Law of Conservation of Power of Shards (LOCOPOS) Why does this matter, this might seem silly and it kind of is, but odium could abuse this, say he goes through this process and an antishard is created, since odium is passion, the anti-odium is Apathy, this would mean that when Odium does this, he would get stronger, but the anti shard he creates wouldn't care AT ALL, this gives him the ability to rinse and repeat, and the only thing he has to do to be safe is sty some distance away fromn the apathy shards he's creating. Thoughts?
ʟɪɢʜʈ Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 How would you mamas and duplicate the huge amazing of investire/power?
Ookla she/her Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 I won't pretend to know anything except that I've read all the Cosmere, but could you somehow start to "corrupt" Odium's investiture the way Raboniel was doing to the Sibling? That's still a heck of a lot of invesititure to corrupt, though... Also, would it be better or worse for the Cosmere to have Apathy instead of Odium? Furthermore, you'd have to go through and purify that investiture all over again if you wanted to put Adonalsium back together. What would happen if you mixed Apathy and Ruin (entropy)? Hmm... 1

After Apathy is created, Apathy and Virtuosity could merge... The result, being "Underachiever". They would create a system populated by a race of people who have spectacular innate talent for piano but can't motivate themselves to practice. No, it's not an autobiography, I promise. Really. But, yeah, I should have practiced more. 2

Thoughts? Anti-Voildlight is the "opposite" of Odium's power. However you can't make anti-Odium, because it's like matter-antimatter reaction - investiture would simply annihilate in contact with anti-investiture, and Odium is made out of investiture. Infinite amount of investiture - practically speaking. So you would need to make almost an infinite amount of anti-Voidlight to annihilate Odium, and it would fully destroy it, releasing huge amounts of energy in the process. You wouldn't be able to make anti-Odium, even if you turn whole of Odium into anti-investiture, because Odium's investiture is in the Spiritual Realm, anti-investiture there would annihilate interacting with investiture of other Shards (anti-Voidlight still can interact with other Shard's investiture). Just like Raboniel said in RoW, you would never be able to make enough anti-Voidlight to threaten Odium. Spoiler James Clifford Science question! Brandon Sanderson Ohh science. Is it real science, or fake science? Adam Horne It is Brandon science. Brandon Sanderson Fake science! James Clifford With the discovery of anti-Investiture in Rhythm of War, would the correct form of anti-Investiture be usable to clear up the mess in the Sel Cognitive Realm. If so, would this completely destroy a splintered Shard? Brandon Sanderson *laughs, coughs, and is otherwise stunned* That would not be a good idea. So why would that not be a good idea? So no, this would not clear up the problem. The problem that's going on in the Cognitive Realm in Sel is that a bunch of Investiture that should be in the Spiritual Realm has been packed into the Cognitive Realm instead, through a very weird circumstance of events. If you were to introduce a bunch of anti-Investiture of the right type there, you would just generate an explosion that would be a very bad thing. Matter cannot be created or destroyed, Investiture can't be either, so it's actually changing forms. It's going from Investiture into energy! Which you know, does not leave the system. So the investiture would eventually make its way back around, you can't destroy anything in the Cosmere, just like you can't destroy anything in our universe. But you can make it change forms. And so, what's going on there is just this hope by a certain individual that what has happened there will prevent the power from becoming self-aware. It's basically Odium being like "alright I just murdered you people, I don't wanna have to come back and do it again". So he's trying to figure out a way to make this happen. As it currently stands (again, these things can change when I write future books), it was partially happenstance that he took advantage of rather than something that he was able to set up very intentionally from the beginning, but he was definitely a part. YouTube Spoiler Stream 2 (June 3, 2021) Spoiler Questioner For Adonalsium to create the universe, therefore he must have infinite power to create an infinitely sized universe. Therefore, infinity divided by sixteen is equal to infinity. Therefore, why don't the Shards have infinite power, which they clearly don't, because they can be killed? Brandon Sanderson The power can't be killed. The entity controlling the power can. Infinite power existing and being able to access the infinite power are different things, and a finite mind, even added to a very powerful sense of power, isn't necessarily able to tap all of that. [...] Oathbringer London signing (Nov. 28, 2017) Spoiler R'Shara Does anti-Investiture react to a different Shard’s Investiture in any significant way? Brandon Sanderson The answer is kind of a no, kind of a yes. Mostly a no. Anti-Investiture is going to have an explosive reaction. But the thing is, if it’s anti-Investiture of a specific Shard, that explosion is much grander. But you can make that explosion happen in a just antimatter-and-matter same sort of thing. But you can make the explosion bigger. That's still a heck of a lot of invesititure to corrupt, though... That's not anti-investiture, but this is feasible. YOu would however need a huge amount of another Shard's investiture, a significant portion of it, to corrupt Odium, changing it to some other Shard, dual-Shard. Spoiler Blightsong How does corrupted investiture work, like Nightblood? Brandon Sanderson Oh, Nightblood. Again, this is a definition of what somebody feels is a corruption. For instance, there are spren that people would feel are corrupted. But that's corruption where the mixing of different Shards has changed things, and I think a lot of times when people say corruption, what they're meaning is the mixing of Shards' powers. Blightsong So is there a mixing of Shards' powers happening with Nightblood? Brandon Sanderson *smirks* RAFO. That's the natural question, I'm glad you asked it. Blightsong Ok, uhhh, so something similar is happening with Gavilar's sphere, right? Brandon Sanderson *contemplative silence* RAFO. OdysseyCon 2016 (April 8, 2016) Spoiler Yoitsthew Theoretically, would it be possible to form a new shard from splinters of multiple other Shards? Could I have posses enough investiture from Honor, Cultivation, and/or Odium and effectively become Unity, without holding the entirety of those shards?? I’m really just curious haha. Brandon Sanderson What you want here is theoretically possible, but more difficult than it sounds. General Reddit 2020 (Sept. 30, 2020) 1

Anti-investure has the same intent has it's opposite. (Mistborn) Spoiler Anti-ruin is not preservation, for example. 1
