_joe_ Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 Sigzil's interaction with Hoid confused me. This takes place maybe 80-100 years-ish after Oathbreaker, I'm guessing. When Hoid shows up, why does Sigzil think it's Kaladin? Wouldn't Kaladin be gone by that point? And through the book, he thinks about protecting his friends on Roshar - at this point, they'd all be gone, wouldn't they? But in light of his concern for endangering his friends, he never asks Hoid about them. You think he's want to know. Why didn't he ask? 1
ConfusionSpren Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 I think it was mentioned that Hoid was wearing a blue coat, reminiscent or identical the the windrunners. Sig also wanted to belive it was Kal as (presumably) he hasn't seen him since he left Roshar. 1

Ninth of the Night Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 I think TSM was subtly letting us know that Kaladin actually survives for a long time. Which makes sense when you consider that Brando knows how loved the character is and how devastated a good portion of his fans would be if he was killed off.

I did not get the from it. 1
The Sibling she/her Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 I think that Sigzil probably left a long time ago, and maybe Kaladin died of old age but Sigzil wasn't sure, so when someone showed up randomly he thought for a second that it might be Kaladin. I did not get the impression that Sigzil was certain Kaladin was alive or in a position to contact him. 1

Duxredux he/him Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 With Hoid and Sigzil's relationship, can I just point out that Sigzil calls him Wit? Hoid goes and just flat out tells Dalinar that he can call him Hoid way back in WoK, but apparently despite taking Sigzil on as an apprentice and trusting him with a Dawnshard, they never moved past Wit. No, I don't think Sigzil trusts Hoid to do any favors for him. With regards to thinking Hoid was Kaladin, Sig himself questions if he's going mad, so... case of unreliable narrator in terms of what he thought was possible. I'd say that scene is inconclusive for extrapolating Kaladin's fate. 4

Sigzil can interact with a sentient DEAD bonded spren. Which means the hints they dropped with Adolin are not only confirmed but explored. So I feel we can be pretty confident we are well past that. Aux says in the book we are roughly 10k years after the shattering. Which is a pretty good gap from where I think the current timeline lines up. Can't be sure as far as I know Sando hasn't nailed it down. But after the secret projects he seems to be getting there. 2

His investiture was taken but his mind remained intact, Deadeyes had their minds damaged, but their investiture remains. 1
