the knight chucks the chair out the window and closes it, hoping to stall the hawk. he takes the time to heal.

As birds cannot see glass, the hawk repeatedly bumped into the window.

Aventine looked at the knight. "I am not very happy that you took my chair. Will you play nice if I let the bird back in?"

Through all of this, the chill did not recede, and she waited for more contact from its source.

"I'm not sure. We've got Pic in a bed, so he should be fine for now. I just wish either the cold would go away, or that we could speak face to face with the one causing it."

The cold sensation has been gone for a while, and they did talk to him directly, if not face to face.

Insa

Ash

Ash sent out another mental pulse.

If you are still here please tell me who you are.

Ash... this is a dangerous game.

But I need to know what is doing this.

Fine. Just be careful.

Another pulse.

Who are you?

Who is this asking? And who is the yellow voice? Also, the of sensation is not present anymore, and hasn't been for quite a bit, since second he started talking to Pic

"Alright." She opened the window, and the hawk flew in. It circled by the ceiling for a bit before landing on Aventine's shoulder and preening itself.

Though he was talking to Aventine and Pic before, so she could probably still try to talk, depending on what she asks.

Gotcha

She stroked the hawk's head. It gripped her shoulder, enough to be a little uncomfortable, but not enough to hurt. You said that you were always watching the clinic... is there a specific reason why?

I was going to just get rid of the bird but now I'm kinda thinking it would be useful for the clinic to have a magical courier hawk...

I forgot there were scrolls....

Bookwyrm looked around at the ruined shelves. Many had toppled over or were missing entirely, and the ones that were intact didn't have much in them.

He slowly walked around the small area, his cloak pulled tight against the cold. Ruined scraps of paper rested across the shelves, covered in dust.

But there, resting in the corner of one of the shelves, was a small roll of paper, still intact. He opened it, revealing a chart filled with dots in unfamiliar patterns and strange symbols written in the margins.

"Here," he said. "Come take a look."

20 hours ago, Thaidakar the Ghostblood said:

A man.

That's all he was.

Thaidakar stood somewhere in the background, one hand on a half empty bottle, the other wiping a bit of tar like blood from his wrist where someone had scratched him. Or had that been him? Every day was a blur, every moment a repetitive joke. The world was his stage and he was the jester.

He drained the remaining contents of the bottle, throwing it into the wall with a dull shatter. He opened his mouth, hesitated, closed his mouth. What remained of his integrity had been spent on trying to remember desperately a time when he'd been a real person.

And what was reality? The voices tickled his awareness. No, reality wasn't what was real. Reality was whatever lies he told himself to cover the horrible, horrible truths. He heard a voice speak softly in the distance.

"Lies..."

That wasn't real either. No, it couldn't have been. Thaidakar didn't know anyone with a voice, not since she'd died. No, nope, not again. Everything else was merely an imagined person. And he was the only reality that existed. There had been no war, no Kaos, no dark entity. Calano, Rue, Nameless, Jimmy Thunder... all his imagination.

Thaidakar laughed heartily as he snapped his fingers. The shattered bits of the bottle flew through the air as red energy flowed to it. It reformed, liquid falling into it from some phantom dimension. Thaidakar had another long drink, slamming it into the table, smashing it to pieces.

Drink. Forget. Break. Curse. Repeat.

"Stupid..." he muttered. "Stupid!"

"Lies..."

"Oh, you're one to talk... You're just a living lie! A lie brought to life by my imagination!"

"Lies..."

"Shut up..."

"Lies..."

"SHUT UP!" Thaidakar stood up, holding the bottle by its slender neck. The liquid drained out of it and splattered over the floor. "Shutupshutupshutupshutup!"

Silence met him. He blinked woozily, looking around the small, compact room in the clinic. Thaidakr searched for the sound for, to him, seemed like an hour. It was truly less than ten minutes. "Fine, then, don't answer! I don't need you anyways..."

"Lies..."

Thaidakar sighed, snapping his fingers once again. The liquid returned to the bottle and he drank it in one go. He was worthless... a mess! His friends were all better without him. They were doing just fine... not that he'd checked in awhile. No, no, easier that way. Easier to forget them. Besides, they didn't exist! So he could just imagine they had their happily ever after...

They didn't need him, nor had they ever cared.

"I never cared for them... I don't need them..."

"Lies..."

Where is Thaidakar right now? Because I want some plot again and having Bookwyrm and Insa find him would be interesting...

That would be a fun way to involve thaidakar... He's in a sealed off room radiating a soft magical aura that would seem familiar to Bookwyrm. He's on the floor right underneath the roof of the clinic.

Right now Bookwyrm and Insa have been...uh....transported, for lack of a better world...to a dimension far away from the Clinic. I don't know how we'd get them to interact with Thaidakar, just because they're so far away.

...I mean the answer is magic, I just don't know which magic. Or how to make it plot relevant.

They're in a temple in a small-ish dimension where time moves erratically and unpredictably. They were trying to trap a manipulative god there when inactivity happened and we had to come up with an excuse for why, so we had them both wake up with a lot of time having apparently passed (to explain why we were gone.)

So we both need to find the clinic and find the manipulative god.

And Bookwyrm just found a mysterious piece of paper that I was imagining would be some kind of helpful map. Or diagram. Or something.

Oh yeah in Pic's head, the voice is titled "The One Who Ends"

Ok... so here's how it could work.

What if the diagram leads them to where a lot of energy is coming from, which could help them find the manipulative god first, then they look back at it after that and see energy coming from a certain point in the dimension where the dark entity's energy, radiating from thaidakar, has pierced multiple dimensions to allow a kind of access port to the clinic if it is someone who has been in the clinic before (also foreshadowing something else I could do at some point.)

By "Dark Entity" do you mean the manipulative god?

Because that god already has a backstory; she was tied to Insa, but we got rid of her. Until she escaped.

But if you mean another dark entity then yeah, it could probably work.

I also think that the hunt for the god - her name is Saar - should probably take a while longer. Like, we get back to the Clinic before we find her.

The voice was silent.

He do be asleep, so I think he'd remember the essence, but no specifics. If he does speak, it will be in pure emotional feelings or otherwise incoherent but meaningful blabbering

To herself: So it won't respond to that. Maybe "how" and "why" questions are to be avoided?

What are your thoughts on the clinic, then?

What do you mean by thoughts on it?

Yeah, the Dark Entity is the pending name for what ever entity is using Thaidakar, keeping him in a repetitive state and made him kill his gf long ago.

But, yeah, that sounds good. You can like find the access port to the clinic and I'll be able to respond whenever you get there.
