(Generally) If you listen to it while reading its really fun. He sits, forced to stare at it play on repeat over and over. His heart breaks every time till it is shattered into pieces. He starts to hear whispers coming from all sides of the room. “I made something for you Daddy…” “You’re the best Daddy in the whole wide world!” “I miss you Daddy!” His giggle flutters around the room like a ruffling of leaves. The white room fades slightly around him, an image appearing out of the corner of his eye. “This is all your fault Anansi…” The figure hisses, leaning towards his ear. “How could you Anansi…” Another jumps. “How will he ever forgive you…” They hiss from many directions, suddenly their images appear. Ghostly figures of his brothers. They stand several feet back, creeping like monsters. They crouch down, stomping in sync in a circle. All your fault… you broke his heart… he can’t possibly love you… They slowly start to get closer, their blurry ghost like figures crawling even closer, moving step by step. They put one foot directly in front of the other, they start to snap suddenly. They all snap perfectly in sync, getting closer. Their stomping matches their snaps, they start moving counterclockwise when suddenly more people come out of the blur of the white, coming into focus. Many dead tributes from years past all line up behind the brothers and they in sync start moving around the circle clockwise. Then a voice rises up, as if singing. "You thought us mere pawns, lost in your dark dream," Another steps forward. "But now we haunt you, a relentless scream" Several speak together next. "You pulled the strings, played the cruel hand," Everyone suddenly takes a step forward, stomping louder, each raising up their voices. "Now your reckoning comes at our command." They suddenly switch directions, the people on the outside moving to the inner circle and changing direction and the inner like it but the opposite way. His four brothers step forward. They all look a lot like him, each one of them was killed. One by a mining accident. One by a peacekeeper. One by starvation. And one by The Games. They slide up next to his chair, the youngest leaning on his knee, the next on his armrest, the other on his shoulder, and the eldest down on his knees. The youngest speaks first. "In these dark, coal-stained depths, my brother, we're bound, Blame echoes like a miner's dirge, deep underground." The next follows after. "Brother's treachery, in shadows, I met my doom, The peacekeeper's bullet, sealed my impending tomb." The other singing next. "Brother's greed, your selfish feast unwound, Starved to bones, 'neath darkened ground." The eldest holding up his hands in a mocking plea. "You hissed in glee as I faced that cruel night, Dear brother, now hiss as I haunt you with spite." He grabs ahold of Anansi's hand, pleading with him, on his knees begging as if his life depended on it. "Your life will be taken by the same woman who took mine." All four speak in sync with wide maniacal grins on their faces. "Pitiful Anansi. Oh whatever will he do. Just send his son in there with us too." They all burst into laughter, snapping as they start stepping back. "Join us Anansi. This is where you belong. You can try to escape, but you won't last long." They fade away and his vision blurs as he stares out at the screen showing his son's death on repeat. "Forgive me..." He whispers, tears dripping down his face as he closes his eyes and passes out in the chair from the overwhelming stress. His brother had died years ago fighting in a war. He said that if he didn't go, then he would be ignoring all those who might need his help. it had taken months after he had died for his family to find out. nobody had cared, nobody had thought that the dead soldier might have a family. The same night Ninddle had learned of his brother died, Javek showed up and helped him to realize that his brother had only died in vain if nobody continued his work. Ninddle had sworn he would and became an edgedancer, someone who would care, someone who would remember those who had been ignored. After lying there for a few minutes he came to a resolve. "You're right. I will keep trying, even if it gets me killed." He would try, one last time. Filled with resolve he left his cave to change the world. 2
