The Blackthorn memorizes large chunks out of The Way of Kings and recites them at will. Being obsessed with one book doesn't make you bookish, Elend memorizes multiple philosophies across several authors, and is able to apply them logistically in a real world setting well enough to create an entirely new system of government! Plus, Elend's books are banned. Dalinar's is merely frowned on.
