oh nifty

you do know you can link directly to certain SU's right

I do likey the magic system. It's just Beorin could eventually figure out a solid counter for it using their absolutely massive register of accumulated systems.

ANYWAY

They aren't chained by consequences or responsibility. I can use them much more liberally here than ever before. Or well, probably. Most likely."

"Consequences? Of what variety?"

"We are talking reality breaking, void bringing, world eating monstrosities. And their friends."

“Ayia, do you know what the layout of this ship would be?”

"Another slightly more hypothetical power called the fifth, is what most people think generally, but we don't actually have any clue where it comes from. It just... Always exists."

"...It probably doesn't exist in this universe. At least, not the same way it would in yours." Ayia thought about it for a minute. "If it's anything like most magical energy fields... well, there's really no saying. The Macrosmos doesn't really have any 'rules' or 'laws' or whatever, but generally when something from one universe enters another, they slightly permeate it with the magic and laws of their universe of origin. In terms of magic that would mean you still have partial access to this Fourth stuff, but to a significantly lesser degree."

So yes to Otherside or no ?

"Significantly lesser? Huh. Mmmm. Probably would mess with the hedra [area of influence and precision] if anything. So there hasn't been any eldritch things in here for a while?"

Uhh... well, the way I see it, Strohger would have had to carry enough of the magical field through the portal for one such Evil Monster :TM: to make an effective rift through. I guess I don't know what this 'evil stuff' is like or anything, but I assume anything decidedly massive would have trouble fitting between the universes with just the field that Strohger's emanating.

"Oh, there are plenty of eldritch horrors throughout the universes that Beorin's conquered. They're probably just unrelated to yours."

It is accessed basically through a parallel dimension which can be accessed (in theory) anywhere, so scanners wouldn't pick it up.

Also, the evil monsters are complicated. They only come through big rifts.

"Yep. The Otherside is a type that doesn't really do mortality."

so here's how I'm going about this:

  • The Macrosmos: was invented way back in the day by yours truly as a loose way of explaining the hijinks that go on in Fellowship of the Thing. Basically I was like "drop your OCs from whatever stories you want into this RP and we'll do weird stuff," and the lore was built from there.
  • The way the Macrosmos works is that it completely ignores all other precepts of multiverse theory and such. There are plenty of "universes" within the Macrosmos which are effectively multiverses within themselves - but for the purposes of storytelling, each "universe setting" (regardless of its size) is treated as completely separate from all the others. The idea is that we don't want anybody's epic worldbuilding to be completely overshadowed by somebody else's, so even super-mega-super-magics are only as omnipotent as they are within their own narrative.
  • Basically, this Beorin universe is completely separate from yours in terms of how magic works, which means Otherside can't just leak in the same way it would in your story. If that wasn't the case, then absolutely every story everywhere would technically have to worry about it - which is obviously weird and doesn't make any sense.
  • However, we still like having epic wizard battles between universes, so I came up with the whole "you bring your magic with you" thingimajig. It doesn't necessarily work the same way and it probably isn't as powerful, but you can still use it.

M'kay but yeah I thought so that's why the Otherside hasn't been a problem thus far

But wouldn't having epic wizard battles where the home side is significantly stronger be a little... Counterintuitive? It just doesn't make it epic.

"Or kill us. Yes."

No, I bring this up since we do have a slight imbalance problem

"So how does he exactly steal powers? Or the emperor or whatshecalled?"

Allera is kinda on the weaker side and Variance is goat of the group. For the most part, shim seems weaker than variance and directly worse.

"And how?"

"My abilities are probably impossible for them  to reasonably replicate. It's a case of pure probability, an indescribably low one at that. I can't even be sure that the process can occur in this universe. Which means... they'd probably want to use me directly."
