Strohger also tried his power. Tempest was a liitle harder to reach to grasp, but was still there. He tried to affect a little air in the room.

The hedra was... sharp in a way. A round yet sharp eye shape, instead of a perfect circle. It was strange, but not unheard of.

Strohger found he could do more precision with tempest, but it lost all of it's glory. The things tempest was known for. But still... Strohger pressed the tempest marked air against the hedric shapes, creating a small blade of wind. and it was sharp. It drew blood when strohger touched it, but also trembled in a way. It must have lacked the normal concentration.

Strohger then announced, "Guys air is sharper here. But flimsier."

"We hope."

"We will. And... sharper?"

"lmprints from the hedra are naturally sharp here. Someone must have tampered with stuff around here, since this has never happened naturally to me before. And its sharp enough to draw blood." Strohger  lifted his finger to prove it still was bleeding. "but hard to concentrate."

You might. But I’m—“ useless.

"Our friend, yeah?" Ayia put on her brave smile: one her best friend in the entire world had taught her ages ago. "That's all I care about."

Variance nodded. "You are more than you think you are."

"Well, let's not be drawing anyone's blood just yet, okay?"

"Hey Aiya, can you math my sharp air with another thing? would that work?"

"With enough work, I guess. It's tough to Link fluids if you don't know what you're doing. I could also try to use whatever this Fourth stuff is as a variable, which is probably what Beorin plans on doing. Either way, it'd be a lot of calculations."

"How long, would you guess, until someone comes to get us for... whatever is next?"

"I don't know how well manipulated fourth will go. Its flexible and tenacious, and doesn't have a physical form. However, if you think they can do it then they probably can. Good thing they haven't figured out fourth exists. I would also say hedra, the ultimate outlines, could be altared if fourth can, but hedra moving is eternally problematic."

On the subject of Shim being an objectively weaker Variance, it looks like that because his powers aren’t good at doing what Variance does, and he hasn’t had the opportunity to use them in other ways. He can do a lot more than he’s done.

“That magic system of yours is intriguing, Aiya. Do you need a precise name for something before you can manipulate it, or will placeholders or imperfect names do?”

Allera nodded, squawking in agreement, though they didn’t feel much better.

"It pretty much has to touch whatever you're affecting. There's a level of recognized intent behind activating the magic itself that allows for little errors like that."

"I see. You know, Shim, we haven't heard much from you yet. How much can you do in your current form?"

"I can emit electromagnetic radiation of any wavelength, and with effort, I can increase its intensity to very high levels."

"I can send radio signals, be a flashbang, melt a hole through your head, or kill you with radiation. You know. Normal things that light can do."

"Are... abnormal circumstances likely to emerge at any point?"

"Depends on whether or not these Beorin try to experiment on me."

I feel like melting a hole through someone's head might be a stretch...

And didn't you say that it would be harder for him to produce dangerous radiation than lower frequencies?

"And what could happen in that case?"

"See them, yes. But in a ship like this, they don't always use radio waves anymore."

"I can detect some of their signals. Not all of them."
