Here's my character:

Spoiler

Name: Fetu Malamalama

Gender: Female

Age: 50

Physical characteristics: Light brown skin, short in stature, shoulder length brown hair that's greying slightly. She looks a few years younger than she is. Often wears comfortable casual button up shirts with utilitarian pants, and likes to wear lab coats just for the heck of it. She looks like a professor.

Personality: Slightly sarcastic and snarky, but kind and caring underneath. She's a loving person who will easily make friendships, and once you're close friends with her, you might as well be part of her family. She is very annoyed by the stupidity of others. She loves to teach people what she knows, and is drawn to the stars and wants to know everything she can about the universe.

Homeworld/Homeland/Ethnicity: Of Samoan descent, and spent a good part of her childhood in the Pacific Islands. In her later life she travelled as much as possible with her family, trying to see everything she could of the solar system. Samoa has always been her home, though.

Backstory: Fetu has been fascinated with the stars from a young age. Her Starshaping developed early on, and she was submitted for training soon after her parents caught her making ripples in the air at the age of 3. She excelled in school and joined ISEA's Astronomy and Astrophysics department after earning a PhD at a young age. She met her husband, a man of Hawaiian ancestry, during her early college years. She now has four children, all of them developing in the scientific field. The opportunity to travel to a new world that celebrated her culture and the culture of her husband was unmissable for her, and, considering her important position in ISEA, she and her family had little trouble making it onto the Hawai'iloa. She is the head of the expedition's scientific department, and teaches students among the colonists in various levels in the meantime.

Powers: She is a powerful Starshaper with specific ability in the manipulation of spacetime and the creation of Wormholes, which is invaluable to the expedition.

Profession: Astronomer, Astrophysicist, Dimensional Starshaper

Lots of things: Engineers, Scientists, Doctors and medical workers, Security, Command Personnel, Therapists, even some people with background in politics to make sure the colony runs smoothly during the voyage and on Namaka.

Pick and choose.

You could have a younger character if you want, but unless their parents are with them, they have little to no reason being on the expedition at all, not to mention they don't really have a way to apply if they aren't going with an adult. You'd have to do some finangling.

Young adults are fine though. Anyone 18 or older could theoretically join, but they'd have to be very skilled or very smart.

I don’t know, but if there are, want to be my kid? I can have adopted you or something! I also don’t know what age range you mean, but I’m assuming ~ 9-16 ish

From the OP:

"If this RP does end up working, it will probably be more focused on character interactions and development, as right now I can't think of much action going on, at least for a little bit. I might be able to change that later."

do have there being a sort of independence war that takes place in 2356, but that's not for a long while. No conflict with other ships. This is a (mostly) peaceful expedition.

That would work.

EDIT: Is every RP an anime in your head, Fadran?

I'll be the ship's Xenobiologist (the technical term is Astrobiologist). But in a pinch I can be a doctor.

should I assume Fetu is like my characters boss then? Cause he's a scientist dude?

Also I love the fact that there are at least four characters with brown hair and glasses.

Powers: (the only option is Starshaping, but if your character has access to it, what is their strength level in it? What special skills do they have? How would they use this for the benefit of the mission?) His power is really weak, not being able to manipulate anything, but he can sense others Starshaping, and he leaned into it.

You are the one who will be cursed with my rant, if I ever am on the same side of the ship as you. #1 priority is to stay away, though it is you, but I don't hate you.

In addition my specialty is plants or plant-similar-lifeforms.

Spoiler

Name: Dr. Calin V. Theodores

Gender / Pronouns: Male (He/Him)

Age: 37

Physical characteristics: Short greying hair (it's a family thing), friendly but tired-looking blue eyes, and somewhat paleish white skin. He's rarely seen without his lab coat nowadays, which tends to get quite wrinkled if he forgets to launder it after awhile.

Personality: Generally a very chipper and friendly fellow. He loves what he does and that's quite obvious to those who come to know him.

Origin: Venus / Venusian Republic of Wyoming / Mostly White

Backstory: He was born and raised in the Venusian Republic of Wyoming and took an early liking to medication and microbiology. After receiving a doctorate in both at the University of Garvash, he returned to his hometown of Stonebrenne to entreat his people with his occupation. A part of him always wanted to explore the stars, but the call of healing was stronger - until he was offered a position aboard the exposition to Namaka as head doctor of the Hawai'iloa.

Powers: Very weak but very precise molecular altercation, which he uses to augment his genetic and microbiology work. Usually only experimentally, as he doesn't trust his powers enough to use professionally.

Profession: Head doctor of the Hawai'iloa, leading in all treatment, disease control, and health management.

Why? Also it's general practice to put Out of Character stuff in quote boxes.

Sort of. Fetu is in charge of the science department's operation overall, but professionally she's an Astronomer and Astrophysicist rather than a biologist. As I'm letting Fae's character become head of Biology on the ship, your character would probably answer to him, rather than Fetu.

Sure, why not? Sounds good.

Another thing I'd like to note: There are 10,000 people on this ship, so each of your characters who are scientists are working in a department with at least a hundred other people, if not more. Keep that in mind when you're thinking about their profession.

AND THIS NEXT PART IS PLOT IMPORTANT

For the start of the RP, I want to ride a space elevator to an orbital ring where we then take a shuttle to the Hawai'iloa. Because it gives time for characters to bond and meet and make friendships, of course. Definitely not just because I wanted a space elevator and an orbital ring because space elevators are cool.

This space elevator could be in one of several locations, namely:

  • Panama City
  • A place in Portugal
  • Somewhere in Italy
  • Dubai
  • Somewhere in Southern India
  • A place south of Sydney, Australia
  • or, a floating city in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

What I mean is that a space elevator has been constructed in each of these areas and you guys get to decide which one is the one where our characters end up meeting.

Tell me which one you want.

Avoidance: Fear/Secret

Rant: 'Cause you can alter reality and do barely anything with it, wasting a gift that could make you immortal.
