Trusk'our he/him Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 We know that it's already possible to take Invested powers made through Forgery with Hemalurgy (WoB). We also know that Southern Scadrial is finding ways to let inanimate objects use Feruchemy and Allomancy using Harmonium. We know that it's possible to Hemalurgically spike inanimate objects so long as they are "alive" enough (WoB). And finally, we know that you can force a Forgery to take on someone it wasn't intended for so long as their soul is "familiar" with the soul of the person who was intended to be stamped (basically, Connections must exist between the two). So, with that in mind, I hypothesize that you could make a Forgery to stamp a Scadrien (let's name him Joe for fun ) into an Allomancer or Feruchemist, then make a device that used Feruchemical duralumin to Connect to Joe. You then place the Forgery on the device instead of the Joe. Even though the Forgery won't take for long, you don't need it to last more than a second or two to Hemalurgically spike out the Invested power. And there you go, no people spiked but one Hemalurgic spike Invested with one Metalborn power. Get enough Investiture to use and you may be able to mass produce Hemalurgic spikes this way.
Underwater_Worldhopper he/him Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 That would require a lot of Investiture per spike (Something like unkeyed Dor), and the Hemalurgic charge might just vanish as soon as the Forgery stops taking, and you'll still have killed a being Sapient enough to have a Spiritweb 1

As for whether the power disappears after being taken by the spike, I don't think that would happen, since the WoB I used says that using Hemalurgy to take a Forged power is possible- it would be very misleading if Brandon said it that way and the reality was that the power could be taken but that it would evaporate after a few seconds, and that just isn't his style. And as for the killing a sapient computer... yeah, that could be a problem. I think it would depend on whether you could, with Intent, create a device that was only as aware as a Malwish medallion and still spike it or whether it has to be more Nightblood level alive for the spiking to work- Spiking a barely aware object intended for that specific purpose = okay, in my opinion. Spiking something like M-bot... oof.

I don't think anything that has a Spiritweb complicated enough to hold an Invested Ability could be anything short of something like M-Bot Edited April 29, 2023 by Underwater_Worldhopper

You monster! #RobotsAreAlive! #ProtectRobotLife! #StopSpikingRobots! That's a good one, again. The question is if connection is all that's needed for soulstamp to last for a moment? Would forging a robot to "become" a human isn't too much? I think a simple connection might not be enough because they're drastically different. And connections are different. In the case of the Emperor's Soul novel, everybody in the palace had some connection to the emperor, but only one person, his close friend, was able to test his soul stamps. He had a more specific connection to the emperor than anybody else had. Plus they both had a set of existing connections to the land, country and people around them. Those might be connections which are needed here. Can you give a robot those kinds of connections? Would the fact that he is a robot make those connections not enough for soulstamps, because of their vastly different physiology, and spirit web full of different connections? 1
