So I was thinking, which aether would be best in combat?

And there's no better way to find out then to have them fight to the death.

So which Aetherbound or spore eater would win in a fight?

Oh boy, here we go again.

Spore Eaters seem to not have any control over their spores, so outside of spores preventing their death, they're not have much to offer. Like Tress figured it out, you need to just immobilize them without harming them to defeat them. They need a lot of water, more than Aetherbound, so if you can destroy their water supply, they will kill themself very soon.

Let's talk about Aetherbound, who doesn’t have such explosive nature like spores.

Midnight Aethers are very versatile and dangerous, they can create Midnight Essence and send them from far away to silently assassinate your opponent. That's very scary. And in direct combat, Midnight Essence are autonomous, they are sapient enough to act on their own, so you can swarm your enemy with dozens of them until they are killed. Their slippery nature would make them very hard to catch or immobilize like with vines or crystals, unless making a full, thick box around them.

Roselit and Crimson are both very similar, they provide good defensive and offensive capabilities. Like Prasanva did, you can make armor out of them, use them to hide, or make crystal weapons (fast with Crimson). Dangerous in close combat.

I do like Verdant Aethers, using vines looks very cool, and you can achieve quite a lot with them. Mostly immobilize your opponent, or be like Davy Jones and choke your enemy from the inside. You could likely make a living armor from vines around you, and stop projectiles and weapons with them so they are good on the defense as well. They remind me a lot of Awakened ropes, probably that's why I like them so much. And like Awakened ropes, you can use them to quickly descend or ascend on the battlefield. But those are vulnerable to Sunlight Aethers, not ideal.

Sunlight Aethers - we don’t know much, they generate heat and light. If you’re immune to that heat, you could become a living torch/Firebender and do some cool stuff, Great against Verdant, but not that useful against crystals.

Zephyr Aethers make air, which you could use just to blow something/one away, but most Aetherbound can anchor themself strongly to the ground, so that’s not very useful. Zephyr Aetherbound likely won’t create explosions like Zephyr spores.

With this I think that the best would be Midnight Aetherbound, as they can kill their opponents silently before the battle, or during a battle create a swarm of minions to overwhelm their opponents from far away.

Roselit, Crimson and Verdant Aetherbound are likely not that far away. They have good defense and offence, so they can be a dangerous opponent.

Spore Eaters on the other hand not so much. Just grow vines/crystals around their legs and arms and that's it, or blow them off the fighting area/clif/ship/whatever there is.Or blow them into the wall. That's it. As long as you don't harm them, they don't pose a threat to Aetherbound.

I mean Rosite Aetherbound can make guns, and Zephyr Aetherbound could totally fly.

Yes, they can, but once Zephyr Aetherbound is in the air what is he gonna do with his Aethers? Make some wind and blow people off their feet? That's not much, and can be prevented with other Aethers - grow crystal/vine wall, or grow them around your legs and Zephyr isn't that big of a problem anymore. In most extreme cases they can make some hurricane like conditions, but then again, others can do crystal armor or a strong tree of vines.

Guns require skill and time to make - and gunpowder. Unless you combine Roselit and Zephyr Aetherbound, they can't really use them - I'm assuming they only bring themself and lots of water/Dor to the fight, not any weapons or tools, to see what they can do with Aethers alone. So guns are as good as a club.

The coolest things you can do with Aethers requires several different Aetherbound working together, like we saw with cannons and cannonballs on Lumar.

I wish this thread got more traction than this.  A question that has stumped me is this.  Are there any aethers that could fuel some sort of spiritual or physical healing?

I don't think so.

There was one in AoN, but that one really doesn't fit anymore.

Though, one of the characters did use Amberite(literally just Rosite) as makeshift bandages, that allowed him to survive wounds he shouldn't have.

This is interesting.  So it can be used to stop bleeding and offer stability like a splint and tourniquet all in one. Its something.  Not healing similar to gold and stormlight.  I imagine the heat and light aether could be used to cauterize wounds as well perhaps great tools to be used in place of many instruments we see in hospitals today but no magical healing.  I can definately see a surgeon using roseite in their practice. You can clamp and seal off vessels with roseite.  I also imagine that roseite as it is grown would be considered sterile.  If you had some form of the light and heat you could even cauterize and clean wounds with that as well. I wonder how difficult it would be to use Zephyr aether to create suction or blow precise puffs of air for cleaning areas as well?

While there may not be much magical healing properties I do imagine that aether powers and future tech could replace a large portion of what we use in hospitals even today... instrument wise.
