I was picking through the coppermind and became interested in deadeye spren.  Do you think you could awaken one?  Perhaps not getting access to surges but even awakening one enough to instantly form into whatever shardweapon you picture in your mind would be a big deal, and, depending on your morality, might be more efficient way to obtain a shardblade than the nightblood route.

No, they are already considered Awakened by the magic system. They're already invested.

Questioner

Can you awaken a Shardblade?

Brandon Sanderson

Can you Awaken a Shardblade? A Shardblade would already be defined as Awakened, by the magic systems.

Questioner

And what about the Plate?

Brandon Sanderson

Plate would already be defined as probably too heavily Invested to Awaken because it already is.

Questioner

So is it possible to Awaken a Shardblade? That's the question-- that's my question for you.

Brandon Sanderson

Um... With the magic system of Awakening, you mean?

Questioner

Yeah.

Brandon Sanderson

So, all forms of Investiture strongly resist other forms of Investiture.

Questioner

Makes sense.

Brandon Sanderson

*brief interruption* Nightblood is essentially an Awakened... Trying to do that.

Questioner

'Cause he shows up in Words of Radiance, right?

Brandon Sanderson

Yes. So, it-- let's just say it'd be very, very hard. Because it's like saying, "Can-- I want to turn on a lightbulb that's been turned on." Yes, you can... maybe... I don't know what that even means. It's already Invested. It's already Awakened.

So deadeyes are different than dead spren?  On the coppermind it mentioned a spren being drug into the physical and dying being able to be reanimated.  Likely it is that it is in human form in the physical thus ruining the possibility of a shardblade anyways?  Or could you awaken and make them lifeless commanding them into the form of a shardblade potentially?  Or they would just resemble a lifeless human at that point and nothing more.

Spoiler

Similar to a Cognitive Shadow, a spren can be permanently killed by the use of a raysium dagger embedded with a gem of anti-Stormlight (though a spren in Shardblade form would be more resilient to this).[30][31] Through unknown methods, a spren can have their cognitive form pulled into the physical realm, where the new body will spontaneously form organs and muscles, but the spren will die within minutes. The Stormfather calls this act an abomination, and claims that it should not be possible. Cryptics and Ashspren cannot be brought over properly, because the process of creating bodies for them results in a physical form that collapses upon itself immediately. Ishar speculates that their physiology does not conform to the natural laws of the Physical Realm.[32] These bodies can be made into Lifeless and affected by Forgery.[33]

Deadeye refers to a spren whose knight radiant broke their oath, they are alive(ish) and form dead shardblades. The spren dragged into the Physical realm by Ishar died because they are cognitive entities and their biology is not meant for the PR. You might be able to turn their bodies into a lifeless, but thats something a WOB would clarify.

Deadeyes are dead spren - dead Shardblades. Like Adolin's blade.

This is something very different. Those aren't deadeyes, those are corpses of spren dragged fully into Physical Realm, where they shouldn't be. Read RoW to know more about it. Those corpses can be Awakened, as they are no longer invested. But they won't form a Shardblade, as Shardblade is a physical form of Cognitive spren, and those already have a physical form - a corpse you're Awakening.

You have partially your answer there, in the quoted Coppermind, with the link to this WoB,

Those spren bodies that were brought into the Physical Realm by Ishar. Could an Awakener make it Lifeless?

Brandon Sanderson

This is within the realm of possibility.

What about Forgery?

Brandon Sanderson

Forgery would be a little harder. Because you'd need to know what went wrong to make it go well. I'd say Forgery could accomplish this.
