I recently stumbled upon a rather interesting set of WoBs.

Spoiler

Kythis

When you spike somebody, say a full Mistborn, with a steel spike, it could end up with four different charges.  Does it get all four of them it just depends on where you place it?

Brandon Sanderson

Where you place it it can get all four.  Spiking a full Mistborn wastes a lot of power and the way that it's known, I mean, it doesn't have to, but the way that it's known to do it right now.

Brandon Sanderson

So, since I was doing other things.  Hemalurgy-when you spike, you place the spike in a place that determines which charge the spike gets.

Kythis

Through the heart seems to pick up universally.

Brandon Sanderson

It depends on where in the heart. It's like acupuncture. This was designed from acupuncture and you get very specific on which nerve you're hitting and things like that

Kythis

So the spike will never pick up more than one power.

Brandon Sanderson

Well, the way they know how to do it.

This quite literally changes everything.

Now instead of capping out at three powers before you open yourself up to outside influence, you can get access to 12, while retaining the same number of spikes.

This also allows you(if you can deal with Identity pollution) to compound 4 metals with only two spikes, so long as those metals are from the same quadrant. This is my mind makes Hemalurgy an actually useable magic system, as before it had far too many downsides for only a single power. But if you can get 4 powers from either Feruchemy or Allomancy with only a single spike, that's a lot more useable.

I guess the only question now is what quadrants do you think would be the best to have?

I would personally take the temporal quadrant.

The enhancement side allows some really bonkers compounding but we just dont know much about it right now.  Once we learn more I would 100% be open to changing my mind.

If you have a chance to mix systems I am just in love with the temporal quadrant and compounding bendalloy with aetherbound.

If growth rate is based on the amount of hydration you give then compounding bendalloy could allow you to grow weapons and armor in real time as fast as your opponents are attacking you.

Even if it isn't having speed bubbles to hide behind while growing anything you want or compounded health to heal through anything while you are suiting up still let's you do some bonkers things.

Plus you have access to spiritual sight... which is awesome.

But compounding connection / fortune / identity / investiture could be far more busted than even that.  And leeching is always a good skill to have tucked away.

Flavor wise... a master of time space and healing sounds really fun though.  Add in the new aether bound stuff and we could have a ton of fun.

The other potential powers from other aethers only peak my interest even more.

Edit:  If there is a way to manipulate connection or identity to offer healing on par with gold then the enhancement side of things would have to take the cake.  But Gold compounding is just ridiculous in combo with just about anything.

Interesting, very interesting. I think it also depends on how much hemalurgic charge can be in one spike. If it's enough for all 4 powers then it's extremely useful. I would have to think about it more, but I would take some more useful powers from allomancy and feruchemy and compound them (if Harmony allows it, for now it's a no).

Taking both physical feruchemical and allomantic powers would be a good choice. While gold compounding is op, only allomantic bendalloy is very useful form that quadrant, so I think it would be a bit of a waste. F-zinc and emotional allomancy is very useful, but rest only occasionally. Spiritual Feruchemy seems to have great potential, but only duralumin and chromium have some uses, so I would take just feruchemy from that quadrant.

I feel like chromium feruchemy is spooky to use without compounding.  I would have constant anxiety about what I missed out on or about stepping into the wrong place at the wrong time.

Compounded mental abilities would be about perfect.  They all do something pretty cool.  Zinc is insane.  Basically atium minus the actual sight of future sight.

Actually, FG can be stolen with pewter, so, if it works for all hybrids as such, with 3 spikes you can have all fuerochamical abilities (if you can find a 5/6-spot). Aditionally, the hybrid Fuerochemical abilities would be doubled/trippled if you took all possibilities.

I would probably grab FS and FP (and take the FH with each), and grab AT, AE. If compounding E/S metals is worse than it sounds, I might grab AP instead of AE, but AED and AEC are very useful, and I assume a AEN would be very annoying for people. I would definetly like to become a AEA savant.
