"Might as well head off," Alyxa said. "If we're really working together on this, we have no reason to wait. And besides...something tells me he won't be able to let this rest."

"That's fair," she said with a shrug, tailing after them. "How far is your office, by the way? If you don't mind me asking."

Only a little bit...

And it could be that Condipi thought she was acting far too leader-ish for having just asserted that she wasn't the leader

But yeah, she said she wasn't the leader

"Currently the plan is just to follow [Alyxa] to her office and talk more there."

If she didn't it's fine. She's also relatively well known around these parts.

"Not far," Alyxa replied. "Maybe a five minute walk from here."

Alyxa led them to a safer, more lively part of the town. The blanket of latent fear was still tangible, but perhaps muted slightly. People could afford to relax a tiny bit more in a well known street lined with familiar stores and familiar faces.

Another automobile roared past as Alyxa turned in front of a small, simple, three-story building. Though it seemed relatively new, it had an old fashioned design. A sign hanging in front of the building marked it as "Tantel Surveillance and Investigation." Alyxa walked up the front steps and opened the door.

She walked into the main lobby area, a small room with chairs off to the side. At the reception desk sat a Honqip man with black hair and light skin. He wore a pair of round spectacles and was writing something on a document. As the door opened, he looked up and smiled.

"Ah, you're back! You have the data?" he asked, setting down his pencil and spectacles and walking over to the group.

"Sure do," Alyxa said. She pulled a clipboard out of her messenger bag and handed it to the man. "Can you get an analyst team to add it to our current set and start some statistics? I....well, another project has...drawn my attention."

The man scanned the group, then gave Alyxa a dry look. "Not another one. You know the government doesn't like it when you get involved in these kinds of 'projects', Alyxa."

"Oh, come off it, Qanden. The government isn't in charge of me; they just pay me to do jobs occasionally. And you and I both know that our little establishment is far to valuable for them to stop using."

Qanden sighed, then chuckled. "I suppose you're right." He took the clipboard and scanned over it's papers for a second. "All right. I'll get a team on it right away. We'll have the data ready for you once you have a free moment." He nodded politely to the rest of the group, then took the papers and left to a back room.

"Now that that's taken care of..." Alyxa turned to the group. "There's a meeting room upstairs. We can use it to talk, and plan."

You missed the last time I quoted you.

"I dunno, Ranfast. I think the name suits you," she commented as she tapped her cane a few times. "Although, I guess we'll see as time goes on."

Kasha leaned forward on her cane, watching the Honqip man disappear, then looking around the small lobby area. Definitely was the person she thought it was. Vague memories of seeing this building when she was in this part of town last crossed her mind, and also memories of not giving it much attention came as well. Kasha never had motivation or intention to ever come in, and it was about what she expected... not that she was expecting something grand and elegant from this part of the City Region. Obtaining a building––of three stories, no less––in this sketchy part of Validus must have been a miracle from Vrual and Knali Themselves.

She must have gotten on good terms with the High Autarch. Kasha looked towards Alyxa, tilting her head ever so slightly. Hmm... relatively good terms.

"Sounds wonderful, Miss Tantel!" she said, smiling as she took a step forward. "And I hope that you will address Iduno's question when we get there..?"

"I mean, I run a business," Alyxa said. "This is where that business is headquartered."

"So it is true you are also Xefic?"

Alyxa raised an eyebrow. "It's kind of obvious, isn't it?" She gestured to her black, star speckled skin. "Yeah, I don't conform to the general cultural norms, but that doesn't mean I'm not Xefic." She leaned forward. "You clearly don't seem to follow those norms either, so I am very curious to hear why."

Yeye, here's the basic rundown. All in the Google doc.

Spoiler

They have a democratic-republican government––a government that is run by a random individual that has been elected by the people. Their leader is called the High Autarch, voted in by the majority of the people. They have a small Council of Mentors, which is also voted in by the people that are given the responsibility to help the High Autarch fulfill their duties as leader of the country. They follow and add on (if necessary) to their own set of laws called the Ideals of Harmony, which details how to rule the City Region with the people in mind and how to make peace between all the people in the City Region.

... in other words, it's basically like the USA, except a wee bit more competent
