Whist considered telling her the truth, the officer had (probably) been framing Nayka, and had acted overly violent (in Whist's unprofessional opinion). But there was a chance this woman wouldn't care, or for that matter, believe her at all. Also It would contradict her previous lies . . .

Tide pools, she hated lying.

"Its not what it looks like!!!" was first thing Whist thought to say, in hindsight, it probably made her seem even more suspicious. "She was just coming over to see if our hurt friend here was okay when she slipped on the docks and hit her head," Whist said, trying to sound sincere.

She gives a 'Really.' kind of look. "She would have gotten backup officers before checking on what's clearly not a mortal wound, there are drag marks in the street rubbish, and slipping and hitting one's head rarely knocks one out, just dazes or hurts them. What did you really do to her?"

Fiadh looked at Whist and Nayka. She really really wanted to pull her knives out and obviously this whole trying to lie thing wasn't working. But what would they think of her?

Well crap, Whist thought to herself

Her brain was tired, and her head wound was giving her a throbbing headache. Would Nayka be mad at her if she told (a version) of the truth? Whist didn't seem to have any other options, and the two girls didn't seem to know what to do either. Whist would just have to pray the alley lady wouldn't turn them in. If they tried to run, it would probably only make things worse. Whist wasn't a good runner and Fiadh was still hurt, so their chances of getting away were slim. Nayka could have ran, but for some reason she stayed.

It seemed this woman had a strong respect for the law, Whist decided to play into that.

"Okay, you got me," Whist said, defeated, "I was helping my hurt friend when this officer assaulted that girl," She pointed at Nayka, "She framed her for something she insists she didn't do, and started harassing her, Which, if I remember correctly, is definitely illegal, I simply defended her from this officers unjust actions and abuse of power, by this time the docks had emptied and there wasn't anyone to ask for help, so I did what I had to."

Whist puffed slightly from her rushed and long winded answer. Pleaseworkpleasework, she thought.

Fiadh paused. That wasn't what she had expected. She looked up at the woman in the alley and started to reach for her boot where her knives were hidden. Just in case.

Annamus screams and his arm lurches against the tigers weight and he reaches up, grasping around the tiger's neck. His other hand, palm up and bare of any armor, reaches the flow of blood. The blood seeps into his palm and the torrent increases. When it reaches his palm, the blood begins to writhe and twist around his body. The rest of the tiger's corpse begins to twist around him, it begins to sink towards his skin and sink in. A green light envelops Annamus, and he falls unconcious, body transforming, tiger armor, above tiger skin, coming out.

"So instead of leaving it to go through the proper legal processes, which there are for this type of thing, you made the brilliant move of becoming a delinquent yourself. Congratulations, I am so very proud of your decision making skills."

Ashe glanced at the woman reaching for her boot and spun a tiny circle in the air with her index finger, drawing a small circle into place between the woman's hand and her goal. The portal didn't go far, just a foot away, but it would stop her from getting a hypothetical knife without looking.

Miyako sighed, she should probably help her new "friend" before he butchered this chance. 

"What's the big problem with letting people hear about his cult?" Miyako said, "If it is as blasphemous as you say, no one will join, but best case scenario you get floaty Hwindi in a few years. Just because you are so stubbornly ignoring the world, that doesn't mean it isn't progressing without you. Move with the river or drown in it. Change will happen either way, as much as you want to just hide in your forest, pretending you are strong." Miyako said, staring at the Hwindi with an eyebrow raised, daring him.

Nayka’s eyes began to leak. “I didn’t know you’d get in trouble,” she sobbed to Whist. “I don’t want to go to Leegl people. They’re scary. I’m scared, Whist… I’m scared…” she broke down crying.

Honestly, she almost laughed. But that would ruin the act.

Stay in character. If you don’t think, then you are how you act. It’s clearing your brain that’s the problem.

Hyron dashed forward, grabbing Miyako by the throat before she even had a chance to react.

"Clearly," Hyron said softly, in a low tone, "You don't know much about the world. The world is dangerous, and arrogant, and violent. Like you." They tightened their grip. "I wouldn't make assumptions about my people if I were you. We are a proud people. We have built into the river, a firm foundation that stretches far down into the silt and rock."

Hyron released her.

"This is not your conversation. This is not your fight."

"Prove me wrong," Miyako said, folding her arms, "just because the world is full of terrible people and dangers it is also a place a wonders. Come explore what is out there, the magics and people that make life worth living. And if I'm wrong? Well then, I guess your right. But you will never know, if you stay here."

Miyako stayed still during the entire conversation, looking the Hwindi right in the eye. Tides, she hadn't had this much fun since that fight with the dragon. This Hwindi was something else.

Hyron stepped up to Miyako. "It is because long ago, we did explore the world. Vast amounts of it. Our people were wanderers. And then the world saw us. And they called us freaks. Savages! Our people were chased away, banished to these forests. We have lived here, in peace, and solitude, avoiding the world, because we know what happens when the world sees something it doesn't know.
