Hyron leaned back against the wall. Sword techniques.. Hyron thought to themselves, it might be useful to learn the sword. You don't know how Verdur will hold up in other parts of the World. Learning it will take time, and one on one training with Miyako would probably stress her out, both because she's training both me and Yerik, and because of... us. Whatever us is.

Stalks. Regardless, it might be best if you watch, then practice in secret.

"You have a big rocky crevice where you cook your stuff: the idea is to keep all the heat inside so you can use it how you want. And for the most part it works, but if you stick your hand by it you'll feel the heat. That's because the oven can't contain the heat with complete efficiency: a bit will always leak out.

"It's the same for magic. We're not completely airtight creatures, so our magical energy leaks out a bit while we're storing it. Thing is, instead of just being like heat - fire, the sun, etcetera feeling all the same - you've got lots of different types of energy."

He stuck up one finger. "Basically, you can tell what kind of wizard a person is by sensing the type of magical energy they give off."

“Mostly, yes, but it’s a bit more complicated than that.” Vance held up a few more fingers. “First of all, you can also tell how powerful someone is in that form of magic to an extent. Basically, the hotter the oven, the more heat it gives off. But people who train more also learn how to contain their magic better, so bumping into someone who doesn’t give off much magical energy could both be inexperienced or really good at their magic.”

I think Vance probably shouldn't be able to detect Antin's magic at all when he's not using it, since it only gets released when he is exposed to other magic. Unless you have a different idea of how it works.

"Well a knife is just a really short sword, right? So the only difference is length, and throwing...I think." Miyako tilted her head, realizing she didn't use knives that much. "In fights you will have the shorter reach, so you have to be real close for stabbing or far away for throwing. You'll also be bad at blocking. But that's where your floating and shields come in."

“Certainly. In fact, it’s like that all the time. Most untrained wizards give off barely any magical energy at all, and it’s the same for people who don’t upkeep their abilities. I guess that’s a nice tradeoff of sorts: it makes you less of a threat and less of a target.”

"Yes. I have a cycle of stretching that lays a foundation for all of my moves. I've never taught it to anybody so, we'll see how this goes." Miyako said. She pushed her leg back and slid into a stretch. Miyako gestured for Yerik to copy her.

Yerik copied her, following each of her stretches as she demonstrated them. Surprisingly, it felt... natural. Not easy, necessarily- he made several mistakes - but he didn't feel like he was stumbling blindly through the dark. Even though he'd never done this before, as far as he could remember.

Miyako glanced over at Yerik, surprise coloring her face. It had taken months to learn this and she had been called a prodigy. Miyako wouldn't be surprised if he told her he had be training for over a year. Tides, maybe this acolyte had some talent after all. 

Miyako slid between moves, lingering on each one for only a moment. She was the calm of morning dew on leaves, the unceasing movement of a stream. The inevitable power of a waterfall and the peace of a unbroken lake. Miyako was whole.

She lost herself to the cycle, but was abruptly forced out as she reached the end. She paused disorientated and breathing hard. She pushed her hair back and turned to Yerik. Hopefully she hadn't lost him.

"How was that, acolyte?" Miyako said grinning.

Sahala watched the sun peek over the horizon through the window of the inn. It was so odd, how the yellow sun made so many colors that were so distant from the yellow. She'd never understand how nature could be so effortlessly beautiful when everything she ever tried seemed to fail.

The creature begins flying, up and up and up.

The frosty air chills Annimus's breath and only his fur keeps his skin from burning away in the bitter cold wind. Slamming his claw under the scaly skin of the creatures leg. Yanking down he causes the creature to lose altitude and its grip on him. A small ammount of friction is generated, and heat begins to blossom around Annimus. Looking up he sees the creature preparing a firery attack.

Oh tree roots.

You're in it really bad now.

A vibrant red beam blasts into Annimus, propelling him to the ground.

Roaring, "AHHHHH, GGGGRRRRRRRRR." Annimus falls, speeding up. "WHOOOOOOOOOOMMMBB!"

Armor shattered and wounded, he staggers a few steps towards the woods and falls unconcious on the road side.

Nayka, down in the lobby, sat on a wooden bench at a table. Odd that the officer didn’t remember her at all… lucky, yes, but odd.

It made her cheekbone itch. The left one, where her senses were centered. Buka had helped her figure it out. 

Before, of course, he fell in love and left and… well, she assumed he’d gotten dead.
