The actual RP! This time, please do worry about quote boxes for OoC and stuff.

I'm not gonna bother copying over the worldbuilding from that other thread I made awhile back. If you want to see it then you're gonna have to there.

Here's a blank character sheet, though. That might be a little helpful to have lying around:

Spoiler

Name (come up with fun ones. I have a phonetics system if anyone's interested):
Age (minimum enlistment age is 19):
Gender (birth, preferred; whichever):
Physical Attributes (appearance + abilities):

Personality:
Backstory:
Gimmicks:
Skills (in and out of battle):
Other:

Preferred Modules (Oho? Handy link?):

A list of people's characters!

Unknown:

Spoiler

Name: Tánŕik Láyrin
Age (minimum enlistment age is 19): Just turned 20
Gender (birth, preferred; whichever): Male
Physical Attributes (appearance + abilities): Sparse black hair, it's hard to notice, but he's prematurely balding. He's short (5, 4) and stocky (190-200).

Personality: He's quick tempered and likes to know what going on. Even when he understands what's happening, he still likes to keep his options open in case of changes.
Backstory: Stuff.
Gimmicks: He hates nothing more than someone refusing to tell him something, and there is no surer way to make his temper flare than to have him find out you lied or willfully hid something from him.
Skills (in and out of battle): He's really good at taking in and processing lots of information at once. He's good at tactics, or at least he will be once he learns a little.
Other:

Preferred Modules (Oho? Handy link?): He's always known he was going to want the Tactical Visor, but otherwise he doesn't know. I plan on him having two drove swarms and maybe some other stuff.

Emu:

Spoiler

Name: English: Cyron Velntan; Actual: Sêron Vântan

Age: 20

Gender: female

Physical Attributes: dark, navy blue hair; faint patterning of scales covering forearms; blue-white skin; wiry strength; silver eyes; 5'9"; 100 lbs; agile; coordinated

Personality: High-strung, but a loyal friend. Somewhat ostracized due to her odd looks, is wary of pranks.

Backstory: Named after her father, who was killed by the Faiemen, she hopes to honor his name

Gimmicks: Enjoys confusing people. Kinda like a cat.

Skills: agile, adept at dodging shots instead of taking them. Attentive, excellent marksman

Other: scale pattern represents that her skin is actually stronger than normal, resistant to abrasions and cuts.

Preferred Modules: surface adherence on legs, sight-line covering left eye, concentration beam on right hand/arm, Extension Wire on left arm, or Broadshield on lower left arm.

Shining:

Spoiler

Name Ṫíya X̂a (Thigh-la Shay)
Age 23
Gender She/Her
Physical Attributes Stout (4'10") with striking cobalt blue eyes and short jet-black hair

Personality: Quiet, but possesses a simmering intensity inside. Relishes her individuality and resents receiving assistance from others- is known for her dirty looks at those who attempt to help her.
Backstory: Her mother abandoned her when she was thirteen, and her father was killed by the faieman when she was fifteen. She spent the rest of her childhood traveling between various settlements, surviving only by stealing from others. During this time she mastered the art of theft (for she truly views it as an art), and developed a reputation in the underworld (technically under-underworld as the settlements are underground) for being an audacious freelance thief who refused to join with the established thieving guilds. She continued to hone her skills, reveling in her ability, until one fateful night she stole from the wrong person and was forced to enlist in the Cytocorps in return for her life. She heavily resents her compulsive service.
Gimmicks: She has uncannily accurate first impressions
Skills (in and out of battle): Masterful thief, street smart, skilled pickpocket, good at not being seen

Preferred Modules: Sight-line (head), Surface Adherence (legs), Extension Wire (left arm), Standard Turret (right arm)

Goob:

Spoiler

Name: Ĵrda Ŕbópi (ZHER-da ar-BOH-pih)

Age: 20

Gender: She/Her

Physical Attributes: About 5’10”, brown hair, unnaturally dark blue eyes, a round face and a bulky physique.

Personality: Unflinchingly idealist and, as a reflection of that, kind to a fault, but gets angry whenever she perceives someone as working against her perfect world.

Backstory: Born to a family of farmers, Ĵrda’s father was a prominent and respected member of the Cytocorps. She had a happy and mostly uneventful childhood, with the highlight being her eleventh birthday when her father came home from a long expedition and gave her what became her most prized possession: a faded and partially burnt photo of a beautiful city at dawn, undamaged and peaceful- a reflection of the old world, a Utopia she strives for. Less than a year after that birthday, however, her father died in service. She believes joining the Corp to be the best way of working towards that ideal and honoring her father's memory.

Gimmicks: Perhaps enjoys killing Faiemen a little too much.

Skills: Good at dodging, blocking, and generally not taking damage, but worse at actually dealing damage- at least, worse at dealing damage while waiting for her beam to recharge.

Other: Look. She knows that the Concentration Beam is meant to be more of a long-ranged weapon… but it’s not her fault she’s always up close and personal when the damned thing finally recharges! Well, I mean, it literally is, but you get the point.

Preferred Modules Concentration Beam on her left arm, a Wristblade on her lower left arm, a broadshield above that, and some standard shielding.

Spoiler

Name: Drentr Ály (DREN-ter AYL)

Age: 20

Gender: male

Physical attributes: 5’ 11.5” Used to be a soldier, but his left and right legs were destroyed and badly injured, respectively, in battle.

Personality: Blunt and moderately inquisitive

Backstory: [Pre-Cytocorps backstory TBD]. Joined Cytocorps at 19 and a few months. Lost legs in combat (see above). Resigned from combat, signed up for Research and Development.

Gimmicks: Works with the Cytocorps to develop a sapient AI; researches faieman genetics on his own time (or vice versa, whichever works).

Skills: Notices details/connections few others would, including some that don’t matter or even exist.

Other: Insists he’s six feet instead of 5’11.5”

Preferred Modules: Modified Power Supply (thinner for increased mobility), Modified ForceCap (takes all weight off his legs)

Bookwyrm:

Spoiler

Name: Yisten Iyřan (Pronounced LIS-ten ih-LAR-an)

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Physical Attributes: 5'11'' in height. Not overly muscular, more lean, but in good shape. Short dark brown hair. Deep blue eyes, almost an indigo in color. Commonly wears black and blue glasses.

Personality: Seems quiet and serious to most people, though he has a sense of humor and a lot to say when he's with friends. He's very thoughtful and observant, bringing up points that others seem to look over. He is fascinated with the Cytosphere and the history of the world, and actually joined the Cytocorps mostly to get those answers that he's looking for.

Backstory: Grew up much closer to the surface than most people do, and was able to see the Cytosphere every day. He lost friends and family to the Faiemen, and wonders exactly why the world is the way it is, and who used to live there. His family has access to some ancient records from before the arrival of the Faiemen, and he spends lots of his free time trying to decipher his personal copies of those records.

(Please feel free to veto the fact that there even are records about the time before, Fadran.)

Gimmicks: Like I said above, spends lots of time reading and researching. Somewhat antisocial, and does not hesitate to confuse people by saying things that make no sense. He also hates the fact that the uniforms don't have sleeves, so will wear a jacket as much as possible. Is also trying to requisition a uniform with sleeves. (Tight sleeves that still work with the modules, of course.) His uniforms are personalized with black, white, and blue colors.

Skills: His mind is his biggest advantage. Both in and out of battle, he's observant, and able to tease out hidden secrets and details. He's training to be a tactician and specialist for the Cytocorps, rather than a standard footsoldier.

Other: Even though the Drone Swarms that he uses generally have a specific use, he often improvises with the drones to create weapons similar to the Concentration beam, Plasma cutter, and many others. Often praised for the variety of creative ways he uses the swarm.

(This is basically just an alternate universe version of me with slight tweaks in some areas.)

Preferred Modules: Main Power Supply (Chest), Gravitational Redirector (Abdomen, Belt), Force Cap Boots (Legs), Drone Swarms (Arms and Hands), and Tactical Visor (Head).

All of mine:

Spoiler

Main:

Spoiler

Name: Krĵen (pronounced Karzhen)
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Physical Attributes: Just... really dang tall. Stands at 6'2". His hair, ironically enough, is chopped about as short as one can get it without going bald. Both that and his eyes are silvery grey.

Personality: The kind of guy to bake you cookies because he feels like it. Honestly just a sweetheart and a softie. Given that, it's unclear as to what he's doing here.
Backstory: Tells people about how he lost both his grandparents on their 25th anniversary to a faiemen attack.
Gimmicks: Absolutely loves his flannels. Wears them pretty much year-round.
Skills: Generally really dang strong. Even in addition to his natural strength, he often works his upper body and stamina in regular rigorous routines.
Other: Keeps secrets in his journal and sells them to people for hugs and candy.

Preferred Modules: Force Amplifier on his left (dominant hand), Standard Turret on his right.

Twinsies:

Spoiler

Name: Mângô
Age: 19

Personality: Very protective of her friends and family, though that never saves anyone from whatever banter she can come up with.
Backstory: Grew up with her twin sister Melun and dreamed of fighting the faiemen alongside her.
Gimmicks: Reminds everyone that she is, in fact, three minutes older than Melun.
Skills: Incredibly hardworking and perseverant. It's impossible to get in her way when she needs to get something done.
Other: Doesn't actually like mangoes.

Preferred Modules: Gatling Array on her right arm, Standard Shielding and Adhesion Glove on her left. Heavy Armament.

Spoiler

Name: Melun

Gimmicks: Denies that she is three minutes younger than Mângô.
Skills: Can worm her way out of just about any situation.
Other: Wishes she was named Pomegranate instead.

Preferred Modules: Force Amplifier on her right arm, Wristblade and Standard Shielding on her left. ForceCap on her right leg, and Force Amplifier on her left (has to land primarily on her right leg in order to prevent damage).

The Captain:

Spoiler

Name: Kêlten Vinstosr (But is to be referred to as "Captain")
Age: Somewhere between 25 and 927
Gender: He/Him
Physical Attributes: 6'4", stocky, massive, and absolutely never seen out of uniform. His eyes are a terrifying blood red.

Personality: Good question. When it comes to side characters, I usually write them as I go along.

Skills: The best of the best, they say - for trainee captains, anyways.
Other:

Preferred Modules: Won't tell you brats.

Also!

I should probably mention.

Unless I already mentioned it, in which case I should probably remind y'all

that deciding your characters' modules does not mean that your character has chosen them prior to joining the Cytocorps. It's illegal for regular citizens to summon military-grade modules; or any, for the most part. A few high-maintenance jobs will have specialized modules for the workers to use, but for the most part people won't ever touch any for the majority of their lives. There are certain religions that consider connecting to the Cytosphere to be a rite of passage, and as a coming-of-age ceremony you might call down a single module (something basic, or even just the main power supply and nothing else). They are certified to do so.

Discovering what modules you prefer comes with the training that the Cytocorps gives. Some cadets might research ahead of time and plan out which ones they might prefer, but many end up changing their preferences later on as they experience them firsthand. What you're choosing will most likely be the combo they end up going with after we complete the obligatory training arc.

Re: Clron Velntan

Prolly should mention...

K covers the hard c sound, and s covers the soft c sound. C makes the "ch" noise.

Also as a rule of thumb, each letter only provides a singular sound. L and Y being swapped doesn't mean L makes all the sounds a Y can make. L exclusively makes the "yuh" sound, like in "yonder," and doesn't work as a vowel (like in Sylphrena).

All that said, Clron Velntan would be pronounced

Ch-y-ron Veh-y-n-tan

Cyron Veyntan would be spelled Sêron Vântan

Pretty close! The letter R is a vowel in this universe, and makes the "ar" noise on its own when accented. Yisten Iyaran -> Yisten Iyřan

There are plenty of records, of course, left behind; few of any use. Mainly just old books and journals and such that never had a chance to get destroyed. Historical records are scarce and generally unhelpful, so I'm all cool with this

DREN-ter AYL would be spelled Drentr Áy, as L doesn't act as a vowel for Y.

Otherwise, this looks pretty cool. Only thing I should note that while Main Power Supply modules do have a crap ton of energy in them, other modules also happen to use a crap ton of energy. Most fights with faiemen last about an hour at the longest because of this. If you're only using a ForceCap array and nothing else then it would be longer, of course, but a regular modular power supply wouldn't be enough to let him walk around all day. Still, he'd get a few good hours of walking and such out of it on the daily.

*Laughing*

Concentration Beam is totally supposed to be an up-close weapon. I designed it to be like an industrial laser cutter, not a death star laser. It was designed for a character who used a Surface Adhesion array to literally stick to the faiemen and slice through their skin.

Anyways, imma summon all the people who marked "Y E S" on the survey...

Oh thanks, I'll edit the name.

Also, can I make a probation-officer-type side character for Ṫíla to help keep her in check? I feel like she'd totally sneak off if she got the chance. If that doesn't work with the training program that's all good- I'm not completely set with the idea yet.
