EmulatonStromenkiin he/him Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 who's read Eragon and the Inheritance Cycle?

BROM'S SMOKE RINGS! AND ERAGON AND ARYA! HOW... Ahem. I recently watched Warm Bodies... with Clearplay, and I kinda loved it, even though I'm not a huge fan of scary/zombie movies.

You wouldn't have heard of him if you didn't hear about Inheritance Cycle. 34 minutes ago, Frustration said: And I am more than willing to go on a three hour rant about how it's a Tolkien rip off. Well... Yeah, I guess so. But as far as Tolkien ripoffs go, I think it's a good one. And I think it has some originality in it.
Guest Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Okay thanks I'll try to find the book in my local library which they probably won't have it.
Robin Sedai she/her Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 My sister's listening to the audiobook right now, so like it or hate it, it is a good gateway into science fiction and fantasy.
Robin Sedai she/her Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 I'll be gone for at least eight hours because it's past midnight bye

I did, multiple times and it introduced me to the fantasy genre and subsequently the internet community of nerds, for which I am eternally grateful. (despite the fact that my now-higher standards mean my rating of it has gone down to a mediocre.)

I always thought it was more of a star wars rip off but yeah. To be fair The Eye Of the World is also a tolkien ripoff. The eragon movie tho....

It's the same plot, Essentially. That doesn't mean it's not good, though. I really enjoyed it. The way the Rider bond works, and the magic system, is really impressive to me, and remains one of my favorite magic systems to this day. And honestly, every single storming piece of modern fantasy can be considered a Tolkien rip off, if you look at it the right way. Inheritance cycle just sits (a lot) closer to the worldbuilding that Tolkien used. I have not seen the Eragon movie, and I never intend to, based on what I've heard. Edit: Wait, what was the original purpose of this thread? It was too ambiguous, and I was confused. Edited July 13, 2022 by The Bookwyrm

Whatever you want it to be And yes I’ve read the Inheritance Cycle and still love it… it’s the only reason I’m even here writing this. Also, has anyone ever read/heard of Joseph Campbell and his book “The Hero with a Thousand Faces”? It’s a great book (from what I’ve heard) that is about all the connections between stories and the underlying archetypes of all of them. (we don’t speak of the Eragon movie)
Quivil Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 The Eragon movie is similar to the Artemis Fowl movie and the How to Train your Dragon movies In distance from the actual book.
Trutharchivist he/him Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 How to Train your Dragon was a good movie. Just absolutely unrelated to the original. I'm not sure about Eragon, and can't say a thing about Artemis Fowl due to not watching it. 1
Going_North_cal Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 the HTTYD series was literally my whole childhood. i kid you not, that series practically raised me. I love it, and it ended so well and I love it and it's amazing.
+Doomstick he/him Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Eragon tried to follow the book and failed miserably. ”HtTYD” is not how to train your dragon

It also kind of reminds me of the Black Cauldron, for some reason, but I don't want to let the bogart of disloyal adaptation out of the closet any more than it already is.
