"Sadly, yes. He went insane and we had to terminate him humanely. It wasn't fun."

"Wait, really? Can you tell me who, or is that confidential too?"

"That's also confidential. Sorry."

Calano took Emma's hand in his.

"Hm. Question seven: have any patients escaped?"

[Going_North_cal]

"They've tried. All attempts have been unsuccessful. People, aren't allowed to leave until they're cured. At least, not leave permanently. We begrudgingly allow brief outings.

[NameIess]

"All right. Question eight: Do you allow family visitations?"

[Going_North_cal]

"Depends on how far into the treatment the patient is. Usually yes."

[NameIess]

"Question nine: What's the weirdest thing a patient's ever said to you?"

[Going_North_cal]

"Hmmm... Probably when someone in block L walked up to me and said 'The cranberries are tap dancing. It's terrible, doctor. They're trying to persuade the grapefruit to join them.'"

"That is strange. Last question: pancakes or waffles?"

"Waffles. Easy. Anything else?"

Lark took a moment to answer, writing down Calano's answers on his notepad. "Just a more... personal question. What's your opinion on Elend?"

"Elend? Elend Venture? The Elend Venture? Him?"

[NameIess]

"Yes, of course. The Elend Venture from Mistborn."

[Going_North_cal]

"Hmm. He is a good fellow, but sometimes he can be dumb. I like him though."

"I see." Lark snapped his notebook closed and stood up. "Well, I'll go interview the other patients. Thank you for your time."

"Mhm," Calano said, smiling tiredly, "Glad I could help."

He watched Lark walk away before laying his head on Emma's and falling asleep himself, hand in hand with her.

Lark walked along the hallways of the clinic, looking at the list of names and room numbers he'd pickpocketed off of Calano. So many patients locked in their rooms reading. Who should I interview first?

Lark slipped and fell on his back. When he managed to get up, he was smiling broadly. "Wow! I didn't know you could make ice. You really are shaking things up, huh?"

"You have no idea," Dom said, appearing in front of Lark.

"I'm Dom, the Avatar for Dr. Calano. Pleased to meet you."
