AidenTollis he/him Posted March 29, 2022 Posted March 29, 2022 (edited) Throughout the books, we don't even know what the namesake of the series is... Is it the Gem Archive with the Crystal Pillar in it? But that doesn't have any Stormlight in it. Is it something off-world? Is it the place the Ghostbloods will be putting the stormlight to transport it off-world? Edited March 29, 2022 by AidenTollis 1
PurpurPhönix he/him Posted March 29, 2022 Posted March 29, 2022 Is the Stormlight Archive necessarily in world? All the book titles are book titles in world but I don't think that has to mean the title of the series is as well
+Invocation Posted March 29, 2022 Posted March 29, 2022 Quote Questioner 1 The drawers with the infused gemstones. Is that the Stormlight Archive? Brandon Sanderson No. That is not the Stormlight Archive. Questioner 2 Is there a Stormlight Archive? Brandon Sanderson Yes. But... it means the books. The archive of books that are all named after in-world books. The Archive is a pun on archived collection of books. Oathbringer Portland signing (Nov. 16, 2017) It's meta more than anything. 10
dannnex male Posted March 29, 2022 Posted March 29, 2022 Huh. I always thought it was the gemstone drawers. ngl I like that answer better. now the in-word "stormlight archive" is just a collection of 10 unrelated books.

In a sense they are all related in that they were the ten most impactful books that shaped the modern Desolation era for Roshar. Im assuming they will be gathered as a related collection by (or after) the end of series events. 6
Pandora's shard Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Or maybe, Stormlight Archive are the books placed in a specific section of the library of Silverlight. 1
DiePie Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 perhaps the section of Silverlight where the Rosharan texts are kept is lit by spheres in order to give it the feel of an authentic Rosharan library, which would warrent the nickname "The Stormlight Archive" since it's the archive which would be distinct because of the lighting. 3
+Child of Hodor Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 (edited) I always assumed it was the Visions that Tanavast (Honor) made. Dalinar even calls them "a book you left behind, except I don't read it, I see it." (tWoK Ch. 75) Stormlight is a form of Honor's investiture the Visions were probably made from Honor's investiture. They are an archive in the sense they are mostly a record of past events. Edited March 31, 2022 by Child of Hodor
RedBlue Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 Given how Brandon likes to be clever and work in little secrets, I wouldn’t be surprised if we eventually run into a collection of books (or similar) in-universe that is called the Stormlight Archive by characters. We haven’t seen it so far, though. 1
TruthwatcherDan he/him Posted April 8, 2022 Posted April 8, 2022 It’s a play on words, they’re both the title of the SA novels and books featured in-world in their respective books: Way of Kings: This ones obvious, it’s the in-world book written by Nohadan Words of Radiance: This one is less obvious, this is the in-world book describing the orders and abilities of the radiants. Text from the book features as the epigraphs for part three. Oathbringer: the in-world book that Dalinar writes about his life and learnings. Rhythm of War: is the name of the book Navani and Raboniel write as they documented their experiments to create the tone that is the rhythm of war. cheers!

So it's not gemstone drawers, or 10 unrelated books, it just is 10 out-of-world books that we all enjoy reading
