“He attacked us after I tranquillized you. We incapacitated him, and he passed out. We left him behind.”

Technically true. Sapphir thought.

"Ah... did it seem like he would live?"

“His wounds weren’t too severe, I don’t think he’s likely to die there, unless someone came along and killed him for his wallet. If he did bleed out, which is unlikely, then I am sorry.”

Saaphir feels guilty about the lie, but knows that things will get very messy very quickly if Ne’ik knew. When Ne’ik eventually regained his freedom, as Saaphir felt he eventually would, then he would likely assume his brother to be missing, or killed by some criminal in the alley. This way, at least no more people would get hurt. It was a secret he would have to keep carefully, but he was no stranger to secrets.

Ne’ik sighed. He just had to hope his brother could take care of himself; there was no way the Mystics would release him after his failed runaway attempt. He would just have to bide his time; wait for an opportunity. Hopefully a better one than before.

Sitting just inside the entryway to the hideout, Locke sat quietly with his back against the wall, his legs tucked towards him and his arms folded limply on his knees. At some point last night, Locke had moved to sit back inside the building when the temperature had begun to drop and the cold air became uncomfortable. He wasn't exactly sure when that had been though, nor did he remember seeing Ji or the other individuals step inside last night either- Locke guessed he had probably dozed off at some point while he had been waiting for Ji to return. The previous evening had been a blur in more ways than one, and the same restless sleep he had gotten last night, like every other night, left him feeling hollow and empty this morning.

That devoid feeling continued to linger with him as the other Mystics in the building began to wake. Much of the idle conversation that morning had gone in one ear and out the other, but fragments regarding this Angel of Death and Ji's past it left Locke with only more things to think about, with something about Ji's story that poked at the back of his mind like a pulsing headache after a bad hangover.

Leaning his head back against the wall with a gentle thump, Locke calmly closed his eyes and exhaled as he continued to listen.

"That's impressive." Elya started stirring her mix, sounding sincere.

“That knot you tied wasn’t very impressive.”

"You were the one who thought it would hold for... ah... however long you were gone." Neik shrugged as well as he could while tied to a cot. "Which was longer than ten minutes."

"None for me, thank you," Raviid said. "I ate last week." He turned to look at the rest of the room. "Does this menagerie of asylum escapees have any particular plan going forward?"

Lyanör blew on the food and took a bite, sighing contentedly. She wasn't sure when the last time she'd eaten was. "Thank you, Elya."
