  1. It just occured to me that warcraft 3 (reforged or otherwise) would make a fantastic base platform for Stormlight mods. if anyone could do this that would be great Ideas: You would have a Human and Singer faction Windrunners and Heavenly ones are your flying units. You could do cool stuff with hero abilities. Shattered plains map! The 2 settings could merge almost perfectly
  2. Ok so I’m up late thinking and I recently just started playing a video game called Valorant. It’s pretty fun but there is a bunch of character roles that help the 5v5 team plant a bomb or diffuse the bomb. So each character has a kit of abilities and I was just thinking how cool a mistborn version would be. You could have like Lurchers and Coinshots that fight or have Thugs. And then you could have a Nicroburst that boosts abilities or a Leecher that would drain people of their alloymancy. You could have seekers have some sort of small X-ray vision ability for people burning metals. Copper clouds could hide that from seekers and like make footsteps around them not make noise. You could have those tempreal metal burners in the game too. I bet we could even implement Lerasium as like ult orbs to charge a mistborn ult ability. You could have Oracals make like a clone to send out that you control but has 0 health. Augurs could like see where an enemy used to be as a kind of trail. You could even use feruchemy. A Steelrunner could store speed and then tap it to be super fast. A blood maker could heal themselves my storing heath they take from opponents by attacking and maybe heal other teammates. Spinners could like see where people are on the map for a limited time. Windwhisper is basically a tineye and a Brute is like a thug. in the buy phase you could like buy metal minds to fill with properties and you could buy metal vials along with guns. You could go further too and make it so you can buy a clip of aluminum throwing daggers or bullets. And there is still possibilities for more ferrings and mistings that you could release as season updates. oh and another thing you could even add is like hemalurgic spikes where when you or a teammate kill someone they drop a spike with their power or just enhance your power for a round. Or in a feruchemist case a unsealed metal mind with what they had stored. All of these ideas could make a really cool tactile 5v5 fps shooter. The team synergy would be so cool if you knew how to make it work. Like imagine taking a sight and just having a Pulser slowing down a chock point and a Slider just speeding your team to sight and then having lurchers get into a wacky spot and a coin shot shooting coins around. I feel like a game like this would be So fun to make and play. So what do y’all think? Any add on ideas? Any video game developers tryna snag this idea?. Maybe Dragonsteel sees this and makes it? Let’s here it.

  5. So, I am starting to wander my way into some of the non cosmere works as I await the lost metal. Just curious if anyone else has much experience with the world of Enderal as I love it immensely and have no one to talk about it with (much like the cosmere). If you are not familiar feel free to comment anyway as I so love to gush about any form of media I enjoy. As always thank you for your time and I look forward to talking with you all.
  6. So it's unlikely anyone remembers but on an old post about possible games based off of the Cosmere Books I mentioned an idea a friend and I had for a Mistborn Era 2 game. So after a few months of trying, unsuccessfully, to work Unity and Unreal Engine 4 I thought I'd come here and try and get explain my concept and see if anyone has any good incite for learning video game coding. ***Disclaimer - This is a concept for my perfect Mistborn game many of the aspects of this game are incredibly unrealistic and a would require way too much work to be feasible.*** The Concept So our premise was for a first-person Mystery/Action game where you assume the role of a young Upperclass man/ woman Solving some sort of inter-house murder mystery which involves gathering clues, attending parties and generally being a fancy young noble. We decided not to go with Wax and Wayne as the lead characters do to a game mechanic we both particularly loved. The Mechanics Metallic Arts So the aforementioned mechanic is that you have the ability to choose the powers you play through the game with. So, you can choose one Allomantic Power and one Feruchemical power or have no powers at all. This gives you 289 possible combinations. Now I gather that a lot of powers are seemingly useless if your not a Mistborn e.g Duralumin or Aluminium, but for completeness, I intend to include them. Here is a link to my all the powers and how they'd work in the game: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1W9TGSrUb7GBE632xkhQbUZfRXY3U9sLri66zuvEaYXI/edit?usp=sharing So part of the reason I like the idea of choosing your powers is that it allows you to play the game in many different ways, for example: You need to get a document hidden inside one of Elendel's waterfront mansions on the night of a large party. Here are some of your options Using your Zinc metal mind you easily talk your way past the guards and into the party where you spend the evening mingling and dazzling people with your impressive wit this leads to you getting to know your host and eventually convincing them to let you see the document. Using your improved strength and balance due to pewter you manage to sneak your way onto a balcony and into the room where the document is kept. After you find it you make mental copies in a metal mind and make your escape without anyone knowing you were there. As this mansion is placed on the waterfront you decide to brave the icy river and swim your way inside using your Cadmium minds for air, allowing you to avoid the prying eyes of any guards on patrol. These are just some of my ideas after only a few minutes of thought but I'm sure there are plenty more I haven't even considered. Conversation So another mechanic I intend to have would be a conversation system allowing for players to talk NPCs and use methods such as emotional Allomancy or Connection to better manipulate conversations to your benefit. As I said in the previous section you could also use a Zinc mind which would open up more dialogue options. Combat After a post I saw a while ago I thought it'd be a good idea to have specific combat styles based off of the types of Allomancy or Feruchemy you have: Allomancy fighting styles Pewter - Fast and blunt, very similar to boxing. Works best with heavy blunt weapons Emotional Allomancy - Works by reducing moral of opponents - Works best in one on one combat Chromium - Aims to get the fighter in close to get skin to skin contact through palm strikes, Works best against Allomancers Nicrosil - Aims to empower Allomancer partners with bursts of power or to overload opponents Allomancy, Works best in pairs or against tin eyes as they become stunned by the explosion of senses Feruchemy fighting styles Pewter - Uses overwhelming force to down opponents Steel - Fast blows before the opponent can attack Iron - Uses fighters weight against the opponent, uses throws and grappling There will also be a basic fighting style for the powerless to use. Problems So the biggest problem I currently have is that I have about as much coding experience as a Roman Centurion! So all these big dreams are useless if I have no idea how to make any of them happen. I'm doing the best I can with online tutorials but the ones I've found are not great. So if anyone knows any good coding guides or tutorials I'd love to hear about them. Next, there are some powers in Allomancy and Feruchemy that I don't have any idea how to implement as a game mechanic e.g. Feruchemical Bendalloy. Some of you have probably noticed that I haven't yet mentioned anything about compounding and at the moment that is because of the simple fact that I haven't got any idea how many of them would work. There are some obvious ones such as Iron and Steel but when it comes to things like copper and Nicrosil I have no idea how it would work. So my intention is to wait for Brandon to reveal more and then make educated guesses about what some of the powers do. A plea for help So finally I want to ask any for help anyone who has any ideas on how to improve or develop the concept I would be delighted to hear them as I clearly haven’t covered everything and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much if you read this far, as I doubt this post is nearly as interesting as I seem to think it is. Merrickz
  7. Is anyone else here excited for Dishonored 2 to be released? Watching all the trailers to hype yourself up? Can't wait until 11/11 to get your hands on it? Let's talk (and hype)!
  8. If you haven't heard about it, Hearthstone is a collectible online card game. It's really fun. I've been playing it since the open beta a couple years ago and have been enjoying it to this day. I have a special recruitment link that gives new players a free pack when they join. Feel free to take advantage of it. Does anyone else here on the shard play Hearthstone a lot? My tag is Gylfie#1628.
  9. So, a few months ago I got my hands on RPG Maker VX Ace, and I've been itching to create a game. I've been trying to learn all about game design (learned a lot thanks to Extra Credits) but I don't really know how to start it. Due to the technology I have at my disposal, it... a) must be a JRPG, with JRPG mechanics. This includes the dreaded turn-based fighting b ) cannot require a whole ton of coding. c) must have a gripping story. d) must be simple enough to present with ease. e) will not work with a mouse. You can use a keyboard or a controller, however. f) must have an old-looking nostalgic art style, such as: Lately, I've been kind of stuck as far as the story goes. I considered making an RPG version of Mistborn or something, but that would take a lot of effort for something I could never really share. My current original ideas: 1) A kind of bedtime story, told by a son to his father. It would kind of be an AU of the "real-life" setting, involving an alternate version of the son as the "hero," guided by the alternate version of the father, whom the player would play as. Medieval fantasy setting. I've got more of the story for this one, less of the world, but I don't know if it's any good. 2) A food based magic system. Basically, different flavors of food allow certain abilities to the magic users of this system. Would probably have a typical fantasy setting. This food-based magic would make consumables easy to explain. Don't really have a plot set out, but that might be for the best. As far as tools at my dispense, I have plenty of music, a (human) sprite generator, different tilesets and whatnot. I know that there are plenty of artistic and creative people here on the 17th Shard, so I am requesting help with story and world-building for the time being. Later on, I might need aid with some art things. Any advice?
  10. Alright, so I have another topic about "old-timey" video games, but this one's about music. And yes, we're still considering Ruby and Sapphire, Majora's Mask and such "old-timey" even though they're really not. My favorite song is "Surfing" from Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, although I do love Legend of Zelda music.
  11. So we have a couple of RPs ongoing on the forum, and a few games here and there (like Sanderson Elimination. You should join us >>), but what games would you like to see? Be it card, board or computer game, what settings and rules would you want to play in one of the Shardworlds? I've had two computer game ideas that I really wish were things, myself: Firstly, a generational game in which you (as the current head of your House) lead your House in Scadrial right from the beginning of The Lord Ruler's ascent up to the events of The Final Empire. I'd particularly like this because it would give us so much more information on the early empire, and we could first-hand see events such as TLR's burning, the creation of the Contract, the subjugation of all the other cultures around TLR's budding empire, and stuff like that. I think it'd also have the potential to be a brilliant multiplayer game, as the amount of backstabbing in the lore would pale in comparison to when friends are involved . Alternatively, it could be done as some kind of Dominion-style card game, developing your House after turns with added Mistings or Mistborn or the like. This would be very different from the former incarnation, since it wouldn't have a narrative behind it, but it would be good for quick games with betrayal. The setting also lends itself to a more interactive set of rules than Dominion, which can sometimes be basically solitare in multiplayer, trying to compete to just be first to achieve a point score. The other idea I would really like to see is a Mount and Blade-style game set on Roshar, preferably before or during the Alethi war of unification. Over the course of the game, you would travel Alethkar's nine Princedoms, raise armies, win renown and eventually work your way up to owning a slice of Alethkar for yourself, and winning Shards and the like. All this set in the backdrop of the war, allowing you to help determine the outcome. I just love the idea of developing yourself up to being a Shardbearer, or perhaps even becoming a Highprince. Not only that, but there would be so much replay value, with whether you are male or female (and thus a potential pariah in the eyes of Vorinism) or a Dark or Lighteyes. So what sort of stuff would you like to see?
  12. I was playing Eternal Darkness, and I found out that Eternal Darkness 2 was on kick-starter and failed to raise the necessary money. This got me thinking about a cosmere game. I have two choices. Roshar Imagine having a variety of different classes/races that you can pick like in the Elder Scrolls games. You could choose a dark-eyed spearman who has recently killed a shardbearer and has been elevated to lighteyed status, making your way to the shattered plains, or a lighteyed shardbearer already fighting for vengeance. You could be a lowly slave in a bridge crew who has decided to desperately try and protect his bridge crew, eventually becoming a windrunner. Maybe a warrior ardent, who fights with both blade and soulcaster, effectively making them a glass cannon. Couple this with the awesome nature of shards and surges and that would be a FUN game. Nalthis I see this game as being very similar to Assassin's Creed. The world would be drawn in cell shading like Okami (note: not artistic style. Just a similar concept), but the characters and NPCs would be much more realistic. This would help showing the different heightenings more easily. I figure this would start out with you breaking Vasher out of jail, and he gifts you with enough breaths to get to 2-3 heightening. Then you make your way through a story of either stopping the war, starting it and supporting either side, or playing each side against each other and putting yourself on top after the dust clears. Imagine walking through a crowded city street and brushing a rope, awakening it to carry you up to the roof. Then leaving the same rope in wait for an enemy. Or maybe awakening cloths to give you an extra umph to your jumping and running abilities. When you die, you could get two choices, load the last save point of continue as a returned. At the end of the playthrough, if you have accumulated enough breaths you could spend them awakening a sword similar to Nightblood and use it on the next playthrough, or carry over your breaths eventually reaching insane heightenings. Those are my ideas, but I was just wondering what other people thought. I was also wondering if this could ever be kick-startered because I would contribute a good amount of money to this.
  13. I am re-reading Warbreaker and I just can't get over how amazingly well this world would work for a video game! The vibrancy, or lack, of color could look amazing and be used to create a very neat world. The Breath based magic system is already inherently level based with the heightenings. I picture a world that becomes more diverse and colorful as one gains more Breaths. This could aid in locating hidden doors or detecting items/traps etc.. Also as one gains more Breaths things like lifesense and increased health come into play. To counter it you have Lifeless and Drabs that can not be detected so your enemies can be balanced naturally to your current status. Couple this with Awakening abilities as you learn more commands and gain more Breaths and this could be an awesome game. It would be awesome if all objects in game could be awakened and a limited number of Commands made available. You give up Breaths in order to animate objects which translates into trading internal abilities for an external benefit. If you can get the Breaths back great if not you are stuck at your new Breath level till you can get more. Buy breaths, convince others to give you breaths etc.. and you level up. This world to me was MADE to be a video game. You have to conform other books, even Mistborn, into a video game scenarios with leveling and balancing but they always seem artifically restricted in order to create a working /sequential gameplay. Nalthis and Awakening....it is organic.
  14. So, I recently found this awesome game on Kickstarter. It's called TUG. It's similar in concept to Minecraft of Terraria, but it's designed by scientists and professors in such a way that by playing the game, you directly effect how the game is designed. How do major events progress? Which ancient cultures are discovered? What is the economy like? What is the level of magic, or technology, or science? What new items, spells, skills, or world elements will the developers implement next? You, as the player, get to decide! Also, the art is gorgeous: There are still a couple days left in the Kickstarter if you want to buy in and get Alpha/Beta access, or you could wait a while, see what all of this is really about, and get the game when it releases in January 2015. Or you could not buy it at all if you don't want to. It's up to you. Since private servers are a thing you can do in TUG, I'm thinking of starting one for Sharders when the option goes live, if enough people are interested. So what do you say? Who wants to explore new worlds together?
