Roshar and Nalthis Timelines

Quantus

Question

Do we know anything about the relative timelines of Nalthis vs Roshar?  Are they 1-1 or is there any relativistic time dilation involved?  In particular, do we know When in Roshar's history that the Five Scholars (or at least some of them) visited?  We know that Nightblood was based on Observations of Shardblades, but do we know for sure that they visited post-Recreance?  It seems significant to me because observations of a "dead" shardblade should have given them wildly different data-sets and theories than if they actually saw living shardblades and operating Radiants.

This is part of me attempting to flesh out a theory that the Emergence of the Knight's Radiant via the Spren Bonds might have been the result of Machinations of Endowment.  We already know there is a pretty decent bit of interaction there, and I tend to think that the Radiants all being governed by Five Ideals might be a clue

Here is my favorite timeline:  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JJtJhHwpKdow01n2-bsT3scVvqJd6lZh4uvpNwcslv8/edit#gid=0

Basically, Brandon has said that Warbreaker takes place between Mistborn Era 1 and Era 2. Era 2 takes place ~SA6 or 7. It's about 350 years between Mistborn Era 1 and 2.

So, Warbreaker is no more than 350 years before Stormlight Archive.

The Manywar is about 300 years before Warbreaker.

The First Returned were about 300 years before that.

So the time between the First Returned and Stormlight Archive is something around 1000 years.

The Recreance was ~2500 years ago. Aharietiam was 4500 years ago. In other words, Radiants were around long before Endowment started being active.

@RSharaHadnt come across that timeline, thanks!

Quick question:  Is the listed date of "Discovered Awakening" referring to Vo as the First Returned and his Five Visions, or some other datapoint that locks down it's discovery

Ok so as long as there isnt any relative Time Dilation in play between worlds (hinted to exist but not confirmed anywhere specific), we can be confident that the Five Scholars didnt have the opportunity to observe Radiants or bonded Spren, thought if they passed through Rosharan Shadesmar they might have learned of them from the Spren population.

The nice thing is that the timeline lists the citations. In this case, it's Warbreaker chapter 32. The story that Hoid tells Siri talks about the discovery of Awakening.

Quote

“You know, perhaps, that the royal family was growing increasingly interested in the process by which Breath could be used to bring objects to life. Awakening, it was then first being called. It was a fresh and poorly understood art, then. It still is, in many ways. The workings of the souls of men—their power to animate ordinary objects and the dead to life—is something discovered barely four centuries ago. A short time, by the accounting of gods.”

I don't think we've seen any hints of time dilation between worlds so far, in fact Brandon's said that it's not really a factor in Shadesmar travel. We have seen characters who can make use of time dilation to extend their lifespans; Brandon's said that Hoid does it to skip years and we've been told that Marasi could use her power as a form of relativistic travel. But yeah, there shouldn't be much 'unintentional' time dilation going on. In fact, the Five Scholars themselves kind of demonstrate the point, since if there was a difference in the passage of time then Vasher would have noticed it during the visit to Roshar where he and Shashara got the idea to create Nightblood, and people on Nalthis would probably have noticed if some of their resident Gods vanished for a long time.
