Felt the Worldhopper

All right, theory time. Felt was the House Venture head spy in the Mistborn novels. He led the spying team that Elend sent to follow Vin in Final Empire. He discovered how enemy spies were sneaking into Luthadel in WoA. Finally, he was briefly thought of by Elend in HoA, and was apparently securing one of the storage caches. I thought he was a bit of a weird character, but I dismissed him.

Then, in Words of Radiance, I saw this:

"Shim and Felt are scouting those," Lyn said. "Felt should be back soon."

Following this, a scout arrives and points out a plateau that doesn't match the pattern. Though it doesn't mention his distinctive mustaches, this scout is likely Felt.

So, did Mr. Sanderson make a mistake and use the same name twice by accident? I don't think so. I think that someone would have caught it and corrected it if it were a mistake. I believe that Felt is a worldhopper.

These kinds of things are rarely done on accident and Felt is a unique enough of a name it seems unlikely it would be used twice by accident either.

 

If it is the same guy he could be an informant working for a world hopper like Hoid or Mraize.  He sounds like he may be in a similar character to Nazh the guy who retrieved Shallans things from the bottom of the ocean and was sketching bridge 4 and making maps for someone on Scadrial.

 

Interesting find.

I just saw on the HoA annotations that Felt is the third son of a minor nobleman. However, this doesn't mean much, since Demoux is a confirmed worldhopper who began as a simple skaa.

I love this. I wonder if Scadrial somehow has an easier access to worldhopping techniques than other worlds do. After all, we know of at least two others, Demoux and the Terriswoman.

We should probably add that to the list of questions: Is every instance of the same name over different books a worldhopper?

That would probably be too broad in scope and get RAFO'd. Maybe something like how many names have you reused on different characters?" Somewhat vague but probably more likely to be answered when phrased like that. And the answer could still tell you a lot.

No one's caught it, actually. Brandon has told us that there is a Terriswoman running around somewhere in Warbreaker, but we don't know who she is. My best guess from just "gut" is that one nurse with two lines, to which Brandon replies with one of his more gleeful RAFOs.
