Popular Post Newan
Wouldn't it be cool if there was a cosmere version of Risk? The answer is yes, it would be very cool. The real question is whether it would be feasible. Rather than continents, there would be shardworlds. The Perpindicularities/shardpools could be links between worlds. If you conquer a shardworld, you get a troop bonus. Have any of you played Risk: Godstorm? In that game there are "faith tokens" that you use to summon gods or miracles. In Risk: Cosmere, there could be "investiture tokens". Different magic systems require varying amounts of investiture tokens to use. For example, for some investiture tokens, you make some troops into mistborn. Now they win tie rolls when attacking. Here's something that could be added to that rule: you must own a territory on a shardworld to use it's magic system. Therefore, you would have to own a territory on Roshar before you gave any of your troops shardplate or surges. Roshar would basically be Asia. It would have multiple exits and tons of territories. Some of the countries would have to be combined into larger territories. Scadrial would be more of a problem. I can only think of three territories: Elendel Basin, the Roughs, and the Southern Continent. Hopefully the upcoming mistborn novels will shed some light on the current status of Scadrial. With Nalthis, you could have Hallandren, Idris, Pahn Kahl, Huth, and Kuth. (Yes, I know that Pahn Kahl, Huth, and Kuth aren't currently nations on Nalthis, but neither is Kamchatka, so I don't give a darn.) Sel has tons of countries and magic systems, but there are some interesting possibilities there. Because the magic systems are so localized, maybe they're all much better for defending their territory of origin. Or maybe you can use AonDor only if you have conquered Elantris, forging only if you have conquered MaiPon, et cetera. Maybe they could be extremely powerful, but only work on Sel. There are a lot of possibilities there. Minor shardworlds would be single territories, and they wouldn't give a troop bonus. However, people would still fight over those worlds for the right to a magic system that nobody else could use. It would make sense for the magic systems of minor shardworlds to require less investiture. This game really won't be able to happen for a long time. Four continents is not enough for a game of Risk. It would be much cooler if we could also use Ashyn, Taldain, Braize, and Yolen. Here are some ideas for magic: Scadrial Mistborn (medium-high investiture). Win tie rolls while attacking. Feruchemist (medium-low investiture). Subtract an amount from your dice score at one point in order to tap that score later. Unfortunately, you must announce whether you are storing or tapping before you roll. Hemalurgist (medium-low investiture). Take the powers of anyone you kill. Roshar Knight Radiant (high investiture). Add 1 to the highest die rolled while attacking. Add 1 to the lowest die rolled while defending. When performing an end-of-turn troop transfer, you can transfer a Knight Radiant to any territory you own. Voidbringer (high investiture). Once, a voidbringer can summon an everstorm and destroy half the troops on a shardworld. This includes your own. Shardbearer (medium investiture). When a shardbearer should be killed, he instead just becomes a normal troop again. Nalthis Lifeless (zero investiture). Add one to your attacking score. Subtract one from your defending score. Awakener: ??? Sel Right now I like the idea of Selish magic being powerful for a low cost, but with heavy costs and only being usable on Sel, by the person who owns the corresponding territory. Note: if you have given one of your troops a power, but then you lose your ability to give someone that power, you still get to keep the troops you already have. For example, if you have some Knights Radiant on Scadrial, and you lose your Rosharan territories, you don't lose your Knights Radiant. Or if you had some Forgers in Elantris, but then you lost MaiPon, you wouldn't lose your Forgers. Note on distances: If you are attacking a territory, your troops are considered to be in that territory. Therefore, if you are attacking Elantris from Fjordell, you are one territory away from Fjordell. Elantrian (low investiture). Imitate any other power. Only works on Sel. Each time Elantris is conquered, AonDor does not work for the next three whole turns. Practitioner of ChayShan (low investiture). Add 2 to each die you roll, minus your distance from Jindo. Only usable on Sel. Dakhor Monk (low investiture). Sacrifice one Dakhor Monk at the beginning of a battle per your distance from Fjordell to give the rest of the Dakhor Monks the ability to imitate any power during that battle. Forger ??? Bloodsealer ??? First of the Sun Aviar owner (low investiture). Re-roll 1s. Threnody Shade (low investiture). At the beginning of every battle, roll a die to see if any of the enemies brought silver. If you roll a 1, all of your shades die immediately. Otherwise, add 1 to what you role for a shade.
RawToast225
This is an awesome idea, Newan. I am a Risk addict; I am well versed in the intricacies of the game. As a person who is familiar with the ins and outs of several different game types, this is well thought out. We just need a Canon map of the Cosmere and an artist. The Mistborn Dice should be the ones used for gameplay. The only problem I see is that it's a niche market. No one really gets the Cosmere unless they study it out or visit this forum. Well done!
Lord Pifferdoo
This is amazing. I want this so badly now! What if the game centered around Heroes that you controlled that had the Investitures. These Heroes would then move with armies (or maybe by themselves) and grant the abilities above. Hoid could show up occasionally and just mess everything up. Like randomize the armies of each player or something like that. Shardbearers could add +1 to your highest roll or something like that. I think it makes more sense, considering that if you are a Shardbearer and you are defeating, you are usually killed. (Besides duels and the such)
the winter system
This is awesome. I've always loved Risk, although I haven't played for a while. A Cosmere Risk would be brilliant.
Mckeedee123
I'm not sure if this thread is doomed to obscurity already, but I made this: For the record, I would not be suing Brandon Sanderson if this became a thing. Note: I think I just definitively proved the Four Color Map Theorum Edited January 7, 2015 by mckeedee123

Mckeedee123
Dude! I love it! So someone else actually saw this? Sweet! It was all worth it. Of course, there's one person who I think really needs to be aware of it (I know you're there, Peter) Edited January 7, 2015 by mckeedee123

You know, shooting him a PM with this and just asking what he thinks isnt a bad idea.

Mckeedee123
I would have done what you suggested, but sadly, we don't know enough about the perpendicularities to really make a map right now. EDIT: Here are some ideas for additional rules, as well: -Siege: If a territory is not adjacent to another territory possessed by the player in question, they cannot reinforce it by more than 1 troop during that turn (ie. in order to put two or more reinforcements on a space, it's got to have a territory you possess connected to it). This should prevent players from abusing territories like North Aimia, Shattered Plains, and New Natanatan. -Shards: Every player starts with a set of Shards. These shards don't count as soldiers, but the Shard tokens give the soldiers in that space extra abilities. Shards are captured if a battle that they participate in is lost. Retreating counts as a loss, and Shards will be left behind with the defending army. Shard Movement: Shards can move two times each turn. Each move allows them to go through one territory. Using a Shard in an attack counts as a move. Shard Effects: -Shardblade Offensive: One Shardblade will make ties go in the attacker's favor. Two or more Shardblades will, in addition, cause the defender to lose 3 soldiers instead of 2 if the defender is beaten with both dice. -Shardblade Defensive: One Shardblade will add 1 to each die. Two or more Shardblades will, in addition, cause the attacker to lose 3 soldiers instead of 2 if the attacker is beaten with both dice. -Shardplate Offensive and Defensive: One set of Shardplate will prevent the attacker from losing more than one soldier each round of combat (ie. if the Enemy Player beats the Shardplater with both dice, the Shardplater will lose one soldier rather than two.) Each set of Shardplate negates the influence of one enemy Shardblade on the battle. Edited January 15, 2015 by mckeedee123
Benny and the Jets
So i totally stumbled upon this thread a couple days ago and i really like the idea a lot! I kinda consider myself an Entrepreneur and i think this would be a really cool idea to put on the market. I really like all your guys ideas and i don't want you to feel like i'm stealing them from you or anything so if i do decide to go thru with this, would you be ok if i used some of your ideas? Also i had some ideas myself, for the sake of personal record keeping and the sheer fact that i'm forgetful i made a Google Doc for it, you can find the link here
