[Theory] Cohesion and Tension
Lord Tavash Shar replied to ostrichofevil's topic in Stormlight Archive
You guys are also missing something important. If you can increase or decrease Cohesion and tension in object you could cause an object to break down violently as its molecular bonds are severed. IE Molecular Fission. This is why the releasers sound so interesting to me. There opponents and even the environment around them exploding in a flash of nuclear fire at a touch.- 47 replies

One of my players in an AOL game is an electrum/Chromium twinborn. I have yet to find anything other then a Chromium compounder that can do anything to her.

If we consider what they were doing at the time and the fact that this was there first time in most cases performing allomancy it makes perfect sense that they were flaring there metal. Now would be a great time to find out if the numbers in the MAG on how long a charge lasts vs. how long a flared charge lasts are accurate.

Quite a few. There is actually a great deal of debate on the subject of Ferchemical Nicrosil. I would suggest just starting http://www.17thshard.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&fromMainBar=1and reading a while.

We know that is not the case due to one of Hoids statements from the chapter in WoR where he comments on the Novelty of perfect pitch. His remark implies that this ability is still some what new to him.
-
Its also worth remembering that per WOB burning some thing actually acts as a gateway for preservations power and by burning something with a charge you can access your changing what you are asking for. From pewter allomancy to pewter feruchemical charges. What would happen to the the allomantic power of preservation when it comes through as a Hemalurical charge......?
-
The exact quote is: DOUGLASWhat about a Lerasium savant? Or would that require so much Lerasium that the person attempting it would ascend to become a new Shardholder? BRANDON SANDERSONBasically, this is what ascension is. As to how much there is or if its actually possible? No idea. Its just something to note about one of the god metals we already know of. Though it makes me wonder if enough atium spikes would cause the same function.....
-
We have a WOB that if you Eat enough of it its just like consuming the mists and you end up ascending to become preservation.
-
Just imagine. They know you have these abilities so they make even Harder Tests just for you and others like you that are even more difficult to pass.
-
I'm wondering if we will see Feruchemy at all or if it will just be Allomantic Fabriel. After all Feruchemy is all internal to internal and does not draw on preservation or Ruin. Rather its a balanced excess of both in some ones soul web. If these fabriel are only pulling from preservation there could be no Feruchemical ones. Like wise if they balance some how by having to pierce there users body and storing/tapping charges without Personal Identity then its Posible there are no Allomantic Fabriel. We really just do not have enough information to postulate anything more than that they are a thing that exists. How ever it brings up an interesting question. Do all major magic systems have a means of being tapped without having the SDNA for them? *Edited for Clarity*

Metalmind Acupuncture: A Safer Form Of Hemalurgy
Lord Tavash Shar replied to skaa's topic in Mistborn
The Main issue I see is: Quote The Blood Dripped via an Open wound does not seem like it would fit this as I aways took it to mean that the Blood in motion in the target doners body is a must. That said if you could find a way to pass through a Bind point non lethally or a non lethal bind point then I could see this working for alomancy. For a ferucemist I think your going to have to remove there Identity from the charges if they are not giving up the power to use that metal before this will work. -
I would disagree that the powers we have seen do not in some way compensate for or compliment an epics fears. Mitosis - While his weekness was his music his dialogue was Pretty clear that he had liked playing at one point. Enough so to be Classically trained as a musician and probably imagined more then once the convenience of being able to be a one man band. Newton - Her weekness was compliments and we notice that a large number of her powers were based around Running away from people and deflecting things. Steelheart - I don't know if you know to much about Bullies or jails. But there not nice to say the least. In both cases though before you can do much you have to establish what your relationship with others is and in most cases. You try to make them fear you. Prison shanks are made of some crazy things and being able to turn a plastic spoon to steel would be very useful just before you user it. Add to that invincible skin and the rest of steelhearts powers and you have some one who would be top of the prison yard in under a few hours. Firefight - When your in a situation like a burning house or lost in the woods. You would give anything to have made different choices. To just be some where else. Conflux - Depending on where you live dogs being controlled with fancy things like electronic fences and shock collars can be very common and its very inconvenient when they stop working. Phaedrus - While we do not know a lot about Phaedrus and his past yet. I'm personally betting on something tragic having happened to the school where he worked. At which point his powers are Amazingly well geared to rescue work. Dissolving rubel, Shielding from blasts, healing, and transferring his powers to others are all amazing powers. Could you imagine what it would have been like to have some one with those abilities back on September 11? Or even in your local fire department? Obliteration - The man thinks him self a Destroying angel of god, Before that he thought of him self as a servant of the Almighty. His powers are very appropriate for someone with those sorts of... Asperations. Complete with Glowing form when he is about to pass judgement. In short I'm even more sure of an Earlier post of mine Here: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/4192-theory-difference-between-epics-and-high-epics-spoilers/

Random thought's or maybe the memories he was making Right That moment. There are a lot of potential ways that question can be answered that would work and do not disprove my idea. Especially as at this point Feruchemy is common enough knowledge that people would have pre existing ideas of how it works and there by a pre disposition to use it that way. Think about it. You know a kid has pewter Ferucemy but his whole body does not deflate (Just the foot you cannot see) Are you going to look him over to carefully? No your going to assume he is not doing it right and try to describe the "Corect" Feel so he can get it. That feeling how ever is for a trait across your WHOLE body. Not just a small section. And on the subject of metal minds: /Quote INTERVIEW: Sep, 2012 Cosmere Q&A - 17th Shard (Verbatim) READERAT2046 Can a Feruchemist store an attribute in a metalmind that someone else has already stored in and if so, do the charges affect each other in any way? BRANDON SANDERSON Yes, but the charges are just stored in separate pieces of the metal, and don't really influence one another. If that can be done with some one else's metal mind of the same type then there should be a way to seperate out your own charges with enough practice and control.

Your right in that I read that WoB not that they cannot but that there is a trick or understanding required for it to work that makes it difficult. Reminds me of another WoB I read that notes that Hemalurgy is sort of a Universal power that anyone on any world can use if they figure out the trick and that I can Store ANYTHING that counts as an attribute including things like Elantrian connection to there world and Connection to the Dor. I wonder what the upper limits on things feruchemy can store are.....
-
I always assumed that the reset issue was due to the sheer number of spikes they had mangling their spirit webs.
-
No you're correct. Much like an aluminum mistling is not all that useful on its own from what we know via the AoL books Nicrosil is not very useful without both the alomantic and feruchemical powers. Thats actually something I would like to see in book elaborated on though as being human mean you do have some Innate investiture.

Anti-investiture: A Useful Term?
Lord Tavash Shar replied to Windrunner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
There are other elements that are more reactive, though. Why should aluminum be special? While aluminum is reactive to everything its also easy (with the right technology) to break that bond. Aluminum bonds are very weak and yet crazy strong, Reactive to everything and yet very good at remaining pure after its been purified. I would not be surprised if the cognitive or spiritual aspect of that created a special kind of "strength" in those realms that made it so that when its use for or against magical effects it was very hard to manipulate. -
Its also worth note that these systems work the way they do because of the interaction between a shard and the planet its on. This would mean that its possible if you don't some how "Ground" out your investiture to the world its originally from then the planet you're currently on may interpret it. With results that you were not were not ready for and did not expect. I expect universal applications would more or less work the same way. Things like health, longevity, sensory increase, ext. But other effect may be a little more..... Wildmagic like?

Anti-investiture: A Useful Term?
Lord Tavash Shar replied to Windrunner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It may be a balance to the physical properties of aluminum. It reacts with everything, Quite literally. It even reacts with noble gases and other "Inert" substances, Its possible that in the cosmer this reactiveness on the physical plane create some kind of cognitive or spiritual "Stiffness" that makes it inflexible to other things in those realms. -
First: We know that both Tin and Copper work that way. Allowing you to store very specific parts of a trait (Copper memories, Tin sense) so its possible that the other metals can do this and its just not common to think in those terms (The cognitive aspect of what you're thinking about doing matters a lot. I doubt anyone thinks of the health of specific parts of their body separately.) Second: we know that Hoid is some how able to store and tap connections to specific planets and that he has used this to jury rig whole magic systems and act as an Auto translator. While I agree that we should have seen this sort of thing out of Sazed if it was possible its worth note that he and most of the other keepers were scholars focused very hard on the use of copper. Meaning that if this is possible it may be something that requires a specific 'Mindset' to what you're doing. Something as specific as "I'm storing my physical sight" versus "I'm storing my physical weight" I'm not saying that you would even be able to convert them. If you store if as the physical heat of your hand it seems very likely that you will only be able to tap that heat for your hands much like copper or tin.
-
I would like to note that it would actually be pretty useful to store that fever in some instances as its not always actually helping you get better. I wonder..... If you were proficient enough could you store specific inflammation and not just general body heat?
-
We also have quotes and WoB that Brandon is at least PASSIVELY involved in editing Crafty's stuff to the point where he does not want to try and take on other major projects of a similar vein like a Stormlight Archive RPG. Most of the changes like the one's you constantly point out with the MAG appear more than anything to be balance issues and I at least am more inclined to believe that most of the MAG info is in fact Balanced to prevent Clear overpowering in play. When they say that Nicrosil stores investiture I am assuming that they have read some Silmarilan level source material provided by Brandon and interpreting it mechanically to fit the rules and then having to run it by Brandon who as a DM and the creator, Will Straight Up Deny Things The System Could Not Do. But you know. Belive what you wish.

I just thought of a horrifying enough one. The Shard of /b/ Its a reality troll giving powers to all the wrong people for all the wrong things. Meme's are clearly the focus of the shards power.
