StormLight_Luc replied to Chaos's topic in Stormlight Archive
Just finished it (ebook version) Got only two hours of sleep, then ten hours of work... Result; Brandon just melted my brain Loved it, loved the progression of the characters, all of them, because they are human, they have flaws, they stumble, fail and suffer and I suffer with them. Officialy shippin' Syl&Kaladin here. Will make a slower reading when my hardcovers reach me...- 320 replies

Can you tell me why in the Apple bookstore WoR is said to have 592 pages? Does this have to do with the format?

Therory jasnah falls in love with kaladin
StormLight_Luc replied to ddleg's topic in Stormlight Archive
Kaladin glows (and he's a hunk!) Women love that -
There's always the next one!
-
Now it's just a matter of time before someone use Kal's slave brands and Bridge 4 own tattoos as such in real life I wonder what Sanderson would think if that just happened...
-
Thank god for the e-book release, my copy from amazon reaches me between the 6th and the 10th. I'm going nuts here!
-
Perhaps talking about a passage from the Way of Kings? Even if this is from WoR they may still talk about the WoK, no?

damnation! Personaly I think that this glimpse is misleading for two reasons: First: as we know that somebody is going to die our first reaction with a glimpse like this is that one the Kholin brothers is toast. This is what the people at Tor want; to us to panic, to speculate, to get scared about our characters, to get progresively more nuts about it all! Basterds! Second; the most obvious part takes our attention away from the important part: The "fracturing" sky. THAT can't be good, more if this isn't a vision but an actual event. Wild guess: The reaction in Shadesmar of Odium's arrival on Roshar, reflected in the physical world. Major bad mojo in the world, everybody down or on their knees, like when Dalinar witnessed the Recreance.

Ummm, well I wouldn't be so sure about the laws of phsyics as Sylphrenia was quite dismissive of them. Err... they can't affect some elements in nature? Dunno, maybe the only limitations they really have to deal with are within the nature of their Shard. As you quite rightly said Preservation couldn't destroy only preserve... But then what would be Odium's limitation? What is the limitation of Hate? And how does the fact that the Oathpact was shattered impact on what Odium can and can't do? Why would he submit to something like that when he had already killed Tanavast? Furthermore Tanavast said that they could force Odium in picking a champion. How can they force a, for the lack of another therm, god to do something like that? And how can that help them? Personaly I think that there are unknown rules and the someone - still unknown- enforces them, but at the same time can't opose directly those that hold the major Shards. damnation, I hate not knowing!
-
Maybe "fair" is not the right word here... "Limited" shouldn't be better in this case? Maybe this has to do with what Tanavast told Dalinar, referencing a set of rules: Moogle, is there any WoB reffering to the rules that the holders of greater shards have to follow? And who enforces those rules? Any idea?

Which one? Must have missed it...

Ah, but we don't know, do we? Those descriptions don't state how they came to be. Who says that they can't fuse with stone, awaiting for their enemies to appear before rising and crushing them?

My take; A listener evolving into voidbringer. A Thundercast? In most visions of the past, as well as the prelude, voidbringers were described to be of stone.

To be a traitor to anything you first have to be a part of it, and so far nowhere as it been stated that Shallan is a Ghostblood, quite the contrary. That she stole from them, ok. That she betrayed them, not so much.

To me the Stormfather is the intent behind Creation, the one that used Adonalsium to form the Cosmere. My question, if it's the Stormfather talking to Syl, warning her, and "he" is Odium, why would he go after Syl specifically? Other spren have crossed and bonded other humans, so why single Syl out? Unless there is something in her bonding Kaladin that represents a danger to Odium?

Will Dalinar learn how Kaladin became a slave, in WOR?
StormLight_Luc replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, so far as I have seen, both in fantasy as in real life, when someone uses a large unknonw entity, this time "Alethkar", as a justification for acts that are as best morally ambigous or even down right evil they all say that it's for the common good... While it's mostly for their own good.Mankind has always been creative when it comes to justify actions even when they are downright monstrous. More so when they are monstrous. Call it a gut feeling but my take in this is due to two reasons: One: When Kaladin said that this wasn't for Alethkar, but for him (Amaram) this one did look like he was guilty. (Of course we will never know unless we have Amaram flashbacks sometime in future books or somone can challenge Amaram to explain or defend himself & his actions.) Second: was the murder of Kaladin's men and Kaladin's fate unavoidable? There was no other option? I think not. Hell, I can think of a dozen ways that things could have been managed differently and none of them demand that the guys that went to save your life have to be killed and the one that did save your life you show him gratitude sending him to a fate that could be even worse than death. For most of Amaram's reason to do what he did, folowing the advice of his adviseres, Restares chief amongst them, we can find a counter argument.Making in simple I'm of those that think that the easiest answer is sometimes to good one, in other words; Occam's razor. We don't know that.We know that the Listeners told Jasnah that he was about to do something that was "dangerous". We don't know that it had to do with the coming Desolation. They could also be lying. By what we do know the Listeners and their research for new forms are quite possibliy the reason for it. And of course Odium comes. Seriously? Where did you find that intel? And btw, I wouldn't trust this guy over those guys. After all Restares just told Amaram to kill some guys just to look good and keep his reputation while telling him to lie to everybody about Shards that he didn't win.Restares, what an upstanding fellow Still and as I said before, not enough information... in this case ahout a guy that has been named twice so far. Honestly man, lol, before pulling out the big guns and calling Shallan's father a "psychopatic abusive monster" let's wait to read WoR. I'm sure that not everything is what it seems... after all it's Brandon we are talking about here! I wouldn't be surprised if at the end it's Shallan the high funtional psycopath here Kidding, I love her Everything is possible my friend and that's what makes Brandon work so great! After all we all know how Marsh started... and how he ended. -
Personaly I will buy the e-book through the apple bookstore (it says release date the 4th ), then will buy the uk version at my english bookshop as soon as possible and ordered the Tor version by Amazon. (Some) Spren Not Liking Shardblades
StormLight_Luc replied to treblkickd's topic in Stormlight Archive
Adding to WitSpren post I had the idea that the shards, both plate & shard are in fact the corpses of the spren that once bonded to the men and women that became the KR. Maybe the way to kill spren is that they can't exist in the physical realm without a bond keeping them there and as such, when the KR broke their oaths (reasons unknown for them all to do so) weren't able to survive. Not being able to return to the cognitive realm/Shadesmar without the bond, the shards/physical body remain but not the spirit/spren that allowed them to work as Dalinar saw in his visions. Ditto the reason why Dalinar's shads glow is because somehow their resonate with the acts of valor that he does, an echo of the vows the Radiants once upheld. -
Will Dalinar learn how Kaladin became a slave, in WOR?
StormLight_Luc replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Dunno if this has been considered, but is there a thread talking about Syl's reaction to Amaram, his presence in the Shattered Plains or his acts towards Kaladin? As discerning as Honorspren are I am curious to see what Syl will do... will she give him a chance or will she condemn Amaram? And as for Amaram... to little info, all here is speculation but personaly I think that the whole gig is fishy. This is the guy that took Restares' advice. Restares. The second guy Gavilar immediatly suspected to be behind his murder while he was agonizing. That doesn't make me feel safe, or even think that Amaram and his reasonings can be trusted. And as far as we do know, for four years Amaram was in Althkar fighting to keep other alethi from claiming parts of Sadeas territory, that doesn't sound like fighting against a secret group (or not so secret) that we know little about. To me, all this "for the good of Alethkar" is nothing more than a lie he came up to convince himself that what was basically a murder was the right thing to do. People that *saved* him when all the rest ran for their lives, without looking back. Btw can some tell me how I can quote? Thanks -
Alternate Understanding of "the Three Gods"
StormLight_Luc replied to Shardlet's topic in Stormlight Archive
Taking in count that purple was the color of emperors and atributed to the idea of power could it Odium's color? The one that "reigns"? -

Question: has it been explained somewhere exactly why uncut gems/sphere are inferior to cut ones? They both keep stormlight in but if I remember correctly my readings of the WoK uncut were considered less valuable than cut ones. Btw as it been confirmed if gems only grow in some of the living creatures on Roshar? I mean their worth depends on the size, color, cut, provenance, quality etc... But I never had the impresion that they were a rarity. For example we have seen that Alethy nobility uses them as decoration but at the same time it's Roshar's main currency. And it's not only because of the stormlight that is used to soulcast as soulcasters aren't comon so there must be a place where it can be found, different than inside the chrysalis of hugh crustacean monsters, right? Anyway, returning to the body of Honor, is it possible that in Roshar the body is not one single element/place/focud like it was on Scadrial but several that together form it? Like in some religions here on good ol' earth that says that god is not a single entity but parts of a whole; three in one? Or when they say that we are a trinity of body, mind and soul? Btw Moogle thank you for taking the time to help correct my ignorance This said, talking about Adonalsium, the 16 shards in Roshar, well, can it be discussed here? I have some ideas I would like to share but I'm not sure if here in this thread it's the right place to do so even if the discussion seems to move in that direccion. Anyway thank you very much.
