A double endorsement!!! Wafflesworn, attend to me. We have a photoshoot to execute. "Will someone please take a Memory of this??"
-
Thank you, Queen Elsa. Will you please pose here for a second so we can take a photograph of you with the Queen's Special? We do looove our endorsements! Of course. We have the Princess Delight: strawberry, vanilla and chocolate ice cream sandwiched one after the other in three layers of Belgian waffles and drizzled with a generous amount of chocolate syrup. "Princess Delightful, wasing the wanting of the eating of this?" -- And thank you, Leftinch for closing the door. For a moment there, we thought our refreshments were done for!

Ahem, Ashiok, bring in the Wafflerasium. A sprinkle of of that magical substance should bring additional awesomeness to the recipe. The waffle kitchens, are everywhere. They are found under every kingdom, with its subterranean ovens and indoor berry gardens. In your icy castle, it is just outside, since the heat from our cooking can literally "bring the house down".

Here is a description from Archive of our Own: A group of outcasts come together in Sydney to try to pull off some of the most daring heists in the this side of the equator, and all under the shadow of the Sydney Shatterdome. With a new Marshal in charge, set on cleaning up the territory, and a strange new sect of Kaiju cultists on the rise, this unlikely set of companions must face the odds if they're going to succeed! I recommend checking out FeatherWriter's blog to read it. It's really darned good. Hah! Then you must nab, er, order, some more, at a discount of course, for introducing it to others. -- Hello, Queen of the icy Newcago Court. Have you come to visit the waffle kitchen for more tea? Today, we have the Queen's Special: Buttermilk Corn Waffle with Blackberry Syrup sprinkled with cinnamon and confectioner's sugar, served with Four Red Fruits tea.

This must be what gentling feels like...
Quitecontrary replied to Bunnyburn's topic in The Wheel of Time
I never really got over the book hangover from The Wheel of Time. When I walk past my bookshelf, I have to curb the temptation to just grab one of the books and start reading them again. After reading Sanderson, I try to do some craft (painting, etc.) Designed some Soulcasting jewelry after reading Way of Kings, and it helped a little bit. But on a great book, it doesn't really go away. -
I thought the Observer's Guild will just stand in the sidelines and observe, but obviously are responsible for the number of *giggle* turncloaks around here. I wanted to join you before, Lightsworn, but I realized that you and your ilk must have been the one following Hoid...Hoidstorians, if you will, as he went around the Cosmere introducing the magic of waffles. How you can resist the aroma of freshly baked waffles is beyond me, so I thought it very odd, and decided not to be tempted to be an Observer.

Yes, I have, Brightlady Feather, and it's a great read! I doubt if I can match the level of review detail that Quiver, Archer of the Night, and from his allegiance - formerly of the Featherbows - can do. I revel simply in the enjoyment of a well-written good idea...and of course, sumptious waffles! (Long live the Wafflesworn!) Quiver: If thou dost betrayest once, thou wilt again. *whispers to Queen Elsa* "Beware of your vassal's dual nature..." Incidentally, how were the waffles? I have procured some Wafflerasium from the far lands to enhance their scrumptiousness.
-
*brings out the silver trays and the fancy tea sets* Nothing is too good for The Wafflesworn. *hands in a vial of waffle secret ingredient to Ashiok* "Use it well."
-
Cooking, hmmm. worth joining. But why restrict ourselves to waffles? Why not pancakes, and madelines? Soft creative cupcakes with feather designs?
-
It's a Pacific Rim reference (but more a Sydney Scroungers ref.) I will consider other guilds, even the cold one that is Newcago Court. But my first loyalty lies with Lady Feather.
-
The Knave must still be busy with his supplications, Brightlady Feather, and thus unable to provide the needed aid. I come from afar, following the call of the warm desert winds and Jaeger footprints to find you here, in the midst of frigid frost, and offer you my allegiance, such as it is. I am Mary of the wild lands, faithful to you till the end. I will attest to the perils of replication, that which brings about a myriad of troubles but nevertheless a source of adventures, sweet adventures.

Oh, shoot. Yes, except they can't use the powers themselves.

This reminds me of how the large corporation of Indian gods are structured - a god for every single idea, virtue, job, event that you can think of. (Note:this is not a mockery of Hinduism. Merely an observation that a follower may choose the set of gods they want to worship based on their job or status in life.) Quiver, your idea sparks The Great and Powerful Tricktrix in me. (MLP reference) How about an impotent god - someone whose powers only work when granted to an ordinary being for specific needs? He'll be like a godmaker, but the effects of godliness will wear off after a set time.

Bought two Tom Sharpe books today - Wilt and The Great Pursuit - and a book called The Dictionary of Sarcasm. Tom Sharpe is always great fun to read when I need a laugh. And I was drawn to the dictionary. Since English is not my first language, I'm sometimes oblivious to sarcastic comments directed to me, so I guess I need a guide. :-P

The question now is, would you have someone experienced enough to hide the kind of power that he had, to be just a sacrifice, a "suicide bomber" of sorts? He was just the decoy, after all, not the real killer. Again, Khyrindor, I maintain that there is a lot going for you in this tale once you get it polished. :-) Oh, and the fantasy isn't complete unless the blade has a name.
-
There were a lot of good elements in your tale that can truly be worked into something magnificent, but to put them all in such a short story made it a tad confusing for me. It didn't feel like a prelude, but more of a full fledged story crammed in a few words, so it felt rushed...with some moments where time can be spent expounding (his grief at the loss of his father and brother, the execution scene, the warring of power in the desert, etc) I understand that Alvondir can be fooled, seeing that he can't even command a platoon, but what about the Glyphwarden and Fusewarden holding the prisoner? They must be experienced enough to not be fooled, or maybe I just don't have a good understanding of what they can or cannot do. All in all, this can make for a very nice story. I just wish there is a milestone that he has to reach in the desert while the whole inner conflict is happening, like "to kill or not to kill" a companion or a friend or an innocent.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Quitecontrary replied to Quiver's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I loved it. Humor was great, action scenes weren't overdone. It showcased the valiant Captain America to a tee. And is it just me, or is Buck wearing Shardplate on his left arm? -
Though I've read LoTR when I was younger, it was reading WoT in 7th grade that started it for me. Before that, I was a Philip K. Dick fan, but WoT changed all that and launched me in the direction of fantasy, finishing some sagas (SoT, Asoiaf, Majipoor, Chronicles of Amber, Discworld) and generally hungering for more. Sanderson is a very recent addiction, and considering the speed with which he churns out books, the addiction will stay for a long long time.

Divergent/Insurgent/Allegiant
Quitecontrary replied to Tamzin Ashevai's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I thought the movie was well-made, considering the material they had to work with. I've read the three books, wasn't really impressed, and although I knew what to expect, the movie still surprised me in a good way. The cast was chosen well, the villains creepy and easy to hate, the special effects moderately impressive, and overall, it left me with a very satisfied feeling. I watched it with friends who never read the series, and they were quite happy with it. It was entertaining and mildly violent, and the cheesiness balanced it out. Am hoping that they will do a great job on the sequel, too. -
You're awesome, Chaos. Thanks for all your hardwork in keeping this site up for us Sharders.

Words of Radiance Debuts at #1 on NY Best Sellers List
Quitecontrary replied to DragonReborn's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well deserved, Brandon and team! Congratulations! -
Philippines. I speak Filipino, 2 local dialects, Spanish, English, a bit of Hindi, and a bit of Telugu. I'm taking French lessons, but I might stop since I'm very bad at it. :-)

You're not alone. I can't seem to let go of my BB, and I still do most of my email from it. Keyboard is fantastic! Maybe it comes from almost a decade of being attached to a Blackberry. I got a Nexus 5 recently only because my principals don't like me NOT using Android, but I don't use it much.

This is the kind of review you don't want to read because it makes time move sooo much slower. 10 more days of waiting here on my side of the world. We anticipate that it's going to be awesome, but actually reading the reaction of someone who has read it and confirms what we believe is a lot for my heart to take right now.

Our spoiler-free Words of Radiance review
Quitecontrary commented on Chaos's article in Brandon and Book News
This spoiler-free review just wrenches a feeling of pure envy out of me, since we may not get the book here in the Philippines at the same time everyone in the US will. *sigh* 10 more days.- 22 comments
