Cheers Voidus, I was looking for that quote about mists. And yeah, I think you're right that they were always Preservation's mists previously, as Brandon was pretty clear in some other WoBs that Atium was the only physical manifestation of Ruin's power prior to Sazed's ascension. (Namely, that the pits were the equivalent of his Shardpool)

Yeah, but we don't know for sure everything in that song is reliable, just because the stuff about forms is. I expect there might be difficulties to Parshendi Radiants, but if one is going to feature, I would expect Rlain to currently be the best candidate. I would imagine that if it's possible for Parshendi to become Radiants, they would actually need two Spren- one to give them access to the cognitive Realm and prevent them from being Parshmen, and the one they're actually bonding with which afterwards could feed on their personality. But it could be even more complicated than that.

There are two mists, a light one of Preservation, and a dark one of Ruin- that said, in checking WoBs, there's nothing definitive about the Deepness in the time of Alendi, (which is what I was referring to, as the things they've attributed to it in legends seem more like what Ruin would do with his mists) but he does refer to the Era 1 mists as the Deepness as well, and their attempt to Snap Allomancers, so it's a little confusing to keep track of which Deepness is being referred to.

Could be right. Just trying to figure out why the landmass shapes given we know Dominion is not involved in AonDor, and doesn't represent national borders. (Dominion being involved in a magic system named after Aona always bothered me as a theory anyway...) That said, we know it's likely something that's going on across all of Sel, given Seals in forgery seem to be related to MaiPon. It's entirely possible that Dakhorian runes involve the shape of Fjordell, which would just leave figuring out what's going on with ClayShen or however you spell that weird Jindoese martial art.

Also I get the impression he may have forgot that he put Vax in the AA for new!Elantris. Given how much you need to keep in your head at once with revising it's totally reasonable that he had no idea he had name-dropped Vax in the 10th Anniversary Edition. Brandon definitely thinks of Returned as a different category of Splinter to the "Splinters" he refers to when talking about Seons, Skaze, and Spren, as their investiture is not sentient. (Most likely a side-effect of Endowment deliberately splintering her own power) Basically everything that goes on on Nalthis seems to be full of exceptions to the rules- everyone is Initiated as an Awakener, Splinters aren't sentient, her Investiture appears to manifest as flowers... you name it, it's weird.

I really need to refresh on AoL. It sounds potentially like the Gold and Red are forces aligned against whoever our Trell candidate is anyway from that quote, so that actually makes for a stronger argument that Bavadin Is Interfering.
-
Which either means he is and Brandon is enjoying not telling us about it, or he's completely red-herringed us by giving away Autonomy's intent just before the mysterious alien God Metal spike showed up. lol edit: This thread name keeps making me think it's a topic about dumb things Trell did, which we're all going to tell stories about and then react by saying "Classic Trell". lol

Well, we have that comment in the annotations that Wayne is just a method actor, so I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that what he's doing has anything to do with realmatic identity. As for Kandra and bones... bones for the Kandra are a handy euphemism for "beings I have eaten." It's the eating part that's relevant to taking their shape. The bones don't matter that much, although using the exact same bones probably makes it easier to die convincingly.

I think it's in one of the signing reports? It's not on Theoryland yet unfortunately. Whichever one he killed first, he shouldn't have been able to kill a second, forewarned shard on his own without dying himself. I find it much more likely that Odium had some assistance in some respect, but was ultimately responsible for killing both Aona and Skai, and Splintering their shards. Got it: Note that Chaos mentions Aona's Intent when trying to figure out Skai's, and Brandon has a good chuckle about it.
-
I'm definitely on-board with "The Dor is in the cognitive Realm." As for Aons being based off the landmass, it's probably more basic to realmatics than that. Aonic people can be taken by the Shaod, and their written system of ideographs is based off the nearby landmass. Their belief in the significance of that alphabet leads to AonDor becoming an ideographical magical alphabet, and reinforces the Aons as having magical significance, further ingraining them as a writing system and their link with the landmass. The local Cognitive Realm is likely heavily influenced by the conception people have of the country.

Just because you can steal a dead-Spren bond that way, doesn't mean that Spren Bonds are the only thing that can be stolen. If you read my post very carefully, you'll see I was simply saying it may be possible to steal access to individual surges, not that this was the only way Hemalurgy on Roshar could be done. (Although I imagine that it's going to be either stealing an individual surge, or stealing the entire Spren bond. Given the supposed paralells between Twinborns and the Knights Radiant, pending further evidence my money is tentatively on "Hemulargy steals single surges on Roshar")

could there be another big "god"? anti-adonalsium

If you're talking about my post, it wasn't in regard to any other Shard Holders. -
Haha... Alloy of Love: A Mistborn Romance.

Remember guys, Harmonium is the exception so far. God metals are generally named after the name of the Shard's consciousness when they first appear. So we're probably talking about Bavidinium and Raysium. I think if the two Shards agree on their goals in using the physical manifestations of their power, there should be no issue alloying their God Metals together such that they can be used with any of the Metallic Arts. That said, we shouldn't assume the spike has to be alloyed between multiple God Metals, either. It could even be an alloy of Bavadinium and a base metal. I'm rather partial to Southern Scadrians wearing gold and red, myself. I don't recall that warning being related to Trell- am I wrong?
-
I was, but I don't particularly think it matters, as it violates a lot of the rules Brandon publicly talks about using for him to foreshadow bringing back a Shard this way. It does make it a better possibility, but personally I'm still in the "Brandon is a better writer than this" camp regarding this theory even if Trell doesn't feature until Era 3. (Which does seem relatively unlikely given the recurring mentions. If Brandon were just setting up another Shard for Era 3, it could have been done without Marasi connecting the dots to Trell. It seems more likely that Era 2 involves dealing to Trell's minions, as well as the Set, and Trell's involvement in Era 3 will be more direct)
-
I have to say, I like your theory that Trell influenced Paalm while she was world-hopping for Harmony. That's solid. Also, I totally upvoted you purely for "Star Trell 2: The Wrath of Paalm", lol.
-
Narratively, ressurecting Dominion off-screen and then having them come in as a suprise enemy Shard in another series with no foreshadowing is a horrendous idea. You see this in how Brandon talks about the relevance of events on Sel to Era 3- they need Elantris 2 to be written before Mistborn Era 3 can be, so that the relevant information is out there. In my opinion, this theory goes firmly into the bucket of "Brandon is too smart to write this way." Unless we get information about events on Sel changing dramatically in Bands of Mourning, I'm really convinced that all Splintered shards remain Splintered for the time being. In fact, I'm going on record- I highly doubt Brandon will unSplinter any shards without doing it on-screen. If Dominion is coming back together somehow, I'm also 99% sure it won't be in the Wax and Wayne books. It will be in an Elantris book, where we expect to hear about Dominion and Devotion and their Splinters. Your candidates, IMO, remain restricted to Endowment, Cultivation, Odium, and Autonomy. And of the four, the latter two seem to be the ones most likely from the SoS text, and even if some of Paalm's actions were counter to all four intents, that doesn't mean she wasn't being manipulated by an alien Shard, or by the agents of one. It just means that manipulation wasn't complete, and she was more than a puppet, and she didn't always act exactly how they wanted. That is fine and does not rule out "Trell" as a front for either Bavadin or one of the other three candidates.
-
On Bavadin's opposition: Too late, Rayse killed Skai and Splintered his Shard already, so Dominion, a shard dealing with strict heirarchies, is Autonomy's opposite, and given he's out of the picture, is probably not relevant to this discussion. I'm with TheYoungBard on this: I think you're onto something regarding the influence on the religion. It doesn't even have to be two worldhoppers- it could simply be that ancient Trell had a similar philosophy to Taldain's, and they co-opted the religion and set up their Taldainian enemies as devils or negative forces within the theology. Now suddenly all of their friendly world-hoppers have a ready-made front group, and can refer to Bavadin as "Trell" out in the open.

If Trell is in any way relevant, (and we're being set up to think he is) then I am definitely on your side on this one. Either founding your own religion, or better yet, taking over one that's similar to your own philosophy and guiding it in the right direction, would be the best front group for worldhopping agent provocateurs to do their work. If Autonomy (or other "Trell" candidates) are interfering on Scadrial, using existing religions seems like a very strong way to go.

I would say it would take a pretty heavy-duty argument to convince me that the alien God Metal spike doesn't belong to either Autonomy or Odium. I would say the evidence cited for Odium's involvement seem too in-character. It seems a red herring, and for all we know Odium is still largely tied up in Greater Roshar at the time between Stormlights 5 and 6. That said, I'm pretty sure he and Bavadin are to some extent co-operating at the moment based on the suspicious Splintering of both of their opposites on Sel, so it's possible Odium approves or that the Spike has Raysium alloyed into it. Wheras Paalm's sudden lurch towards Freedom At Any Cost seems very dramatic and likely a result of outside influence. I haven't seen a good knock-down argument as to why the spikes didn't contain Bavadinium.
-
I'm reasonably certain the new abilities Brandon is referencing are the southern continent machine-Allomancy abilities. Either that, or there's a new metal that sends you and anything you're touching through to the Cognitive Realm, and you just need to be in a car before you go
-
Right, we have WoB that Duralumin-Atium isn't like normal Atium, and is in fact giving you a peak into the Spiritual Realm. I would imagine that similar bursts of other God Metals burned by Allomancers would have the same effect regardless of which Shard(s) they belonged to. The mists are the gaseous form of Preservation, like the Deepness was the gaseous form of Ruin. Those two mists being mixed deliberately by cosmere-aware people would be more akin to what is being proposed by alloying Atium and Lerasium. And I'm not even sure actually mixing them is the dangerous part- it would be trying to do anything with that investiture afterwards, whether Allomantically or Feruchemically, that would worry me. And we have WoB that it's potentially incredibly dangerous. (Unfortunately it's not on Theoryland so I can't quote it, but iirc he basically says it would most likely either do something totally expected if burned, or explode the universe, lol) That said, if Harmony is the one mixing the powers, that's different. He actually knows each of the Intents intimately, including their history, and would know how to alloy them together safely.
-
Oh my god people. Even for this board, there is such a thing as reading too much into things, lol. If the flute is important, I am quite happy to RAFO about it.
-
My own personal speculation is that burning a God Metal with Allomancy attunes you towards that's Shard's Intent, and gives you limited access to some of their abilities. For Atium, it makes you more violent (ie. prone to Ruining things) allows you to see into the future, presumably because Ruin was pretty good at that. For Lerasium, you'd probably be pacified, or even compelled to protect others, and it would likely gain you some limited ability in whatever Preservation's most powerful ability is. I think flaring hard enough or burning Duralumin with any God Metal is going to give you that same "peak-into-the-Spiritual-Realm" experience that Elend had with Atium. edit: On alloying Lerasium and Atium... that sounds like a spectacularly risky proposition. I suspect the safest way to approach mixing those two powers would be for a character to see if they could find any Harmonium, which Brandon has hinted at. Under Sazed's influence the two powers are intertwining to a degree, and his consciousness is directing them to work together. I imagine his personal influence on the powers has resulted in some of his physical manifestation of powers combining, and that would be a much safer way to approach what you'd want to achieve from alloying Lerasium and Atium.
