alright, alright, I give, I'm going to play in this one. But partially just because there isn't any sort of tin-message mechanism. Rowan saunters into town, his bow in one hand, his recent kill slung over one shoulder. He walks up the back door of the Red Salmon and pushes inside without knocking. Once inside he nods to Jeo, then let's the boar slump to the floor. His payment, as usual, was on the counter by the door. Rowan collects it, then turns and leaves the restaurant, without saying a word. Talking... Wasn't really his thing. He left that to other people. Like all the self-important politicians who are milling about in preparation for the peace talks tomorrow. He much preferred it out in the wild, with nobody around to annoy him. Unfortunately, he was going to have to stay in town until the talks were finished. Hopefully the time would pass quickly and uneventfully. What we need is a few good taters. Po-tay-toes! Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew... Lovely big golden chips with a nice piece of fried fish.

Sugarhouse signing- Saturday, Mar. 29th

That's what Brandon said, but maybe he was remembering wrong. He was talking about a book he wrote 16 years ago after all.- 51 replies

Sugarhouse signing- Saturday, Mar. 29th
Herowannabe replied to Herowannabe's topic in Events and Signings
Oh are we not supposed to be talking about him and/or White Sands? Because I'm only repeating what Brandon said at a public event, fully aware of the audio-recorder sitting next to him. Anyway, I've gone through and transcribed the parts of the signing that I was directly involved in (the beginning and the end). I left out all the general gushing and picture-taking and Brandon giving instructions to the staff and etc. Any time I left out something more than 'um's or 'uh's I put "..." to show that I edited unimportant stuff out. Oh, also, whenever I was aware of a 17thsharder talking (such as myself) I put their username in. Putting it in spoilers, just in case. It does contain spoilers for Words of Radiance, as well as several other books.- 51 replies

Although its possible he meant just what he said. If you think about it, when you're doing allomancy you are temporarily adding an effect or ability to your spirit that it isn't normally capable of doing. When performing Feruchemy (and by extension, Compounding), you are tapping into your own stored up attributes. You're not doing anything new, you're just affecting when you use your innate abilities and the extent to which you use them. So I could see how performing a lot of allomancy- something that you're not normally capable of doing- would warp your spirit, while feruchemy and compounding- which allow you to tap into abilities that you ARE already capable of doing, just to varying extents- wouldn't warp your spirit.- 51 replies

Is Baon the proper spelling then? EDIT: And thanks Tempus, uploading it to dropcanvas now... EDIT2: Uploaded. Here it is: http://dropcanvas.com/#0Oz94r48z44N8D I will probably go in and transcribe the parts where I was personally involved, which was near the beginning and near the end, just because I can offer input and clarifications. If anybody else wanted to transcribe the rest of it, that would be great.- 51 replies

BTW, the two biggest things I learned from this signing, while we wait for me to post the file and somebody to transcribe it: Someone asked about what it means to be Koloss-blooded. Pretty interesting stuff. When Koloss mate their offspring is "Koloss blooded." When the child comes of age they can choose to accept the spikes and become a full Koloss, or to leave the tribe and make their own way. Also, regular humans can, if they wish, go to a tribe and prove themselves and earn their spikes, becoming a Koloss. Second, when he was signing my books he noticed my name, which is Bowen, and said something along the lines of "You know, I had a character from one of my earlier unpublished books (White Sands) named 'Bowen.'" He went on to talk about the character a little, who was an archer. And he said that he really shouldn't have a character who was a bowman named Bowen, so when he went back through the book to alter the linguisitcs of the world, he changed the name to Baon (don't know if I'm spelling that right). Then, and this is the big part, he confirmed that this character was in fact "Blunt" in the Way of Kings purelake interlude!!!- 51 replies

Awesome, thanks for posting that Nicrosil! It's too bad I didn't get a chance to meet you and say hi there. That was my phone on the table, and yes I'm planning on posting that here. Anyone know how to do that? (I recorded it with the built in voice memo app on my iPhone)- 51 replies

Update: just asked Brandon who spoke to Sazed, and he gave an impish grin. I asked if it was Kelsier and he said that he is not going to answer at this time. Hmm....

On my phone, so I can't do multiple quotes easily. But in response to Meta: Re: Retirement It's retirement because I wasn't planning on playing anymore. But now... Re: running out of Breath That's a good point. How about implementing the following rule: Purchasing Breath Any player may use their night action to attempt to purchase Breath. The GM randomly determines if they succeed by rolling 1D6. If the result is equal to or lower than the player's current number of Breaths then they succeed in obtaining 1 more Breath. I dunno, it probably needs some tweaking, because otherwise nobody would remain a drab for more than 1 night. Re: Idrian Role What about this as a role? Royal Locks (Heir to the throne) Your votes do not count. However, whenever another Idrian votes for the same person you do their vote counts as double. This ability is lost if you ever gain more Breaths or become a Drab. EDIT: Oh, I didn't realize all the Idrian and Hellandran people would be publicly known. This role as I have suggested it would really only work if it isn't public knowledge who is Idrian or not.

@b4dave: Ooh, good questions. I can't guarantee that I'll ask them, since I have a list of literally dozens of questions of my own to ask, but I will add them to my list.- 51 replies

@TheOnlyJoe: Interesting twist on the game, I like it. @Claincy: Also, very interesting and well thought out. The rest of my comments should be in spoiler tags... Whew! Needless to say I got a little excited about this one. Claincy, you'll probably succeed in bringing me out of retirement to play again when you start this game.

From Brandon's website: For any 17th-Sharders planning on going to this: Is anyone planning on recording it? If not, I could probably do so.

Looks good! You used my ideas! One thing I just noticed: as it stands now it's impossible for the citizens to win, unless I'm misunderstanding something. If they kill off all the KR first then the Skybreakers win. If they kill off all the Voidbringers first then the KR win. Likewise for the Voidbringers- it's very difficult for them to win without the Skybreakers winning first. Even if I'm misreading it, some clarification is needed. Also, as I think about spanreeds some more, we ought to make it simply: "Only players with spanreeds can start PMs." It makes it a bit easier and clearer to manage.

@Mailliw: My thoughts:
-
For the most part it seems pretty balanced- pretty complicated, like Claincy pointed out, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
-
@Gamma: I like it. I suggested earlier having "metallurgist" be one of the roles that players can have, and each night they can pick one person and refresh their metals. I think it would make for a great dynamic in a game like the one you're suggesting, with metallurgists using their powers as bribes to get other players to do what they want and etc.

Tin Message #6 When Modeft called us 'to his den to be part o' his crew We thought we'd have a riotous time 'till Mo' the 'quisitor slew Then Weiry looked the other way and Lucy lost her luck And Maxill couldn't soothe the Priest and so he too was stuck Tinker Tineye with eyes so bright, He can see what can't be spied, But come tomorrow's morning light, He may be the one that's died. We set out to find the 'quisitor and hang her with a rope And six used nooses later we had all but lost our hope But then Cessie played her hand and we all now thought alike We'll get her soon or later, but what about the friends she's spiked? Tinker Tineye with ears in tune, He can hear the lies you've lied, But come the lynching at high noon, He may be the one that's died. Dyring tends the bar where we must drink our antidotes He's forgone sleep to try to catch the writer of these notes He'll stay awake a thousand days if that is what it takes But Tinker Tineye still will be laughing till his belly aches Tinker Tineye with touch so light, His words you cannot hide, But if anyone ever catches sight, He may be the one that's died.
