  1. I expect @porridgebrick had the right guess: The Liar of Partinel has released chapters on Brandon's website so the title of Jesk is public knowledge even though the story isn't published. It's probably a really high rank so we haven't reached it
  2. Welcome to the forum! Glad you were able to find it. Are the stormlight books the only Sanderson work you've read? If you do a little searching around on here, you might might find that Roshar is part of a much bigger universe (cosmere) than you realized.
  3. 600 = Forger It actually could have changed at 605. I went from 599 to 606 while I slept last night but I think 600 was the more likely change.
  4. I'm sure it's on a lot of people's mind so I'll go ahead and nominate stick as the coolest inanimate object in stormlight. I mean, Shallan prides herself on her cleverness but stick soundly trumps her with his argument of "I am stick". Genius in its simplicity. Plus, he is about the only object with its own coppermind page so just saying... Edit: on a side note, I think that page really deserves an exemplary designation. It's about as well written and complete as they come.
  5. Can the Transportation surge allow someone to world-hop? might be a better way of saying it without any wiggle room from Brandon.
  6. Maybe put "Please do not upvote me" really large in your sig? Though, then people might upvote you just for spite.
  7. Ruin, I've got a long way to go until my rep matches my icon then.
  8. The fact that some of the spren on Roshar are of adonalsium would suggest that Roshar was around and had some form of life before Honor and Cultivation took up their shards
  9. If you go into the sections for each book on Brandon's site there is usually a link to art and sketches on the right Artists who contribute to Brandon's books Isaac Stewart's website: http://www.isaacstewart.com Ben McSweeney's sites: http://www.inkthinker.net, and http://inkthinker.deviantart.com Michael Whelan's website: http://www.michaelwhelan.com For non canon fan art (but good stuff) The 17th Shard gallery: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/gallery/ ExMachina: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/4559-cosmere-fanart-sketches-and-works-in-progress/ Shallan88: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/6545-character-designs-stormlight-archive/ Kirry: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/5203-stormlight-archive-sketches/
  10. All indications are that Pattern was in the physical realm for a while when Shallan was young. He regressed when she pushed him away but it's possible that his quick progression from when Shallan draws him on the ship is a consequence of him already having been bonded to her for a while years ago. His total time bonded is likely longer than Syl's.Syl also came to the physical without help from other spren. Comments by Wyndle indicate that having help from others can make the transition easier and result in less memory loss.
  11. I've had that happen but even though nothing happens when I click, if I refresh the browser it shows that my upvote was added. Have you tested to see if that's the case for you?
  12. Welcome to the forum Trevor. We looked forward to hearing your head exploding ideas.
  13. There is WoB that Honor and the Heralds were present at the Oathpact so it couldn't have been created after Tanavast was killed.
  14. I'm no expert as well but I decided to do some research. For the most part I didn't come up with many results. I did find THIS guide to making spears and it seems like every design ends up with strands dangling off the spear. Usually its a result of the spearhead attachment process but that might have over time turned into an ornamental aspect they add which would explain why Kaladin's doesn't seem to be serving a purpose. Since research didn't produce many results, on the wild speculation side I do know that adding tails of cloth allows objects to be buffeted less by wind and air. If you put a long tail on a kite for instance it will fly much straighter and will be blown around by the wind much less. Take off the tail and it zips around with every gust of wind. Perhaps the strand of cloth is added to give slightly more accuracy when swinging it. The spearhead sways and vibrates less when swinging through the air quickly. Yes, I know, pretty flimsy but the best I could come up with.
  15. Shadesmar is always around, just beneath the surface. People experience it every moment of their lives but just don't realize it. When Shallan and Kaladin "enter" shadesmar, they aren't actually going anywhere. In those scenes, if someone had been watching them, it would have just looked like Kaladin or Shallan were standing there. They are simply shifting their mental focus which allows them to see the cognitive as opposed to the physical so stormlight is not needed. Jasnah has the surge of transportation which is theorized to allow physical access to shadesmar, i.e. she can actually transport her body their instead of just her consciousness which would require stormlight to achieve most likely. So yes, there is the possibility that her going to Scadrial through shadesmar would require stormlight even though none is required to "see" and interact with shadesmar.
  16. Wow, someone has been listening to Brandon and Peter evade definitive answers for too long.
  17. Welcome to the forum Kes! Have an introductory upvote. Some of the things you mentioned bothered me at first too but I've grown to accept them upon my reread and pondering about them so perhaps I can persuade you of their necessity in the book. I think it more likely the idea of eyes getting brighter (just as the skin shines) was just a natural aesthetic aspect that developed as Brandon thought about what stormlight does to the Radiants. The idea for the "racial" divide came into being as he thought about how something like that would effect the culture. It's not so much something he added to create a racial divide but rather a result he knew would occur in their society based on his understanding of how society works. I personally feel he "killed" Jasnah because it was the only solution to her plotline. Her trip through shadesmar obviously involves quite a bit of exposition including various debates with Highspren. He already broke the press with his page count so there just wasn't room to include her story. Having her disappear 7 chapters in and people wonder the whole rest of the book "what the heck is Jasnah up to" just wasn't a good solution. Having everyone think she was dead was a good way to wrap up her story until we can get more information in the next books. Plus, he did lay some hints that she wasn't actually dead. I was convinced the whole book that she was in shadesmar so wasn't surprised at the end when she showed up. As for Szeth, Brandon actually admitted at a signing that he wished he could go back and not have Kaladin administer the killing blow. Seeing as Szeth is likely to be a skybreaker and the next book is dedicated to him, I doubt he played out his role. He's only just getting started
  18. Judging from the list you have so far and the fact that chaos said it was now linear, I'd say the rank splits are all at multiples of 5. So all the changes should be happening at either 0's or 5's
  19. Based on this WoB: You might be on to something there. Edit: I think we just solved physics' unifying theory of everything.
  20. So, another thing I was thinking about is that Lift and Wyndle mention her using her fat reserves as well as food to gain stormlight. That sounds like it is a wholly different process than allomancy. You can't, to the best of my knowledge, burn the iron in your blood, the copper in your bones, the tin and zing in gland tissue, etc. If she can get stormlight from stored fat/carbohydrates then Lift doesn't get the stormlight from food, she gets it from breaking carbon bonds. I'm starting to lean towards it being a direct conversion now rather than a gateway. Edit: well... edgedancer's post about feruchemy causes more problems... I'll stop theorizing on this until we get a WoB.
  21. I have a feeling being the emperor's friend and saving his life is going to provide Lift with a lot of food reserves before we see her next.
  22. I for the most part actually agree with you Moogle that it is similar to allomancy. The food/metal is a filter for rather than a direct conversion to the investiture. Wyndle's quote muddies that assumption a little though. He seems to imply that it is a direct conversion but there is the possibility he doesn't fully understand the process either.
  23. He's been asked what the breath to stormlight equivalent is at signings. He said there was a rough estimate but that he didn't know off the top of his head and would have to locate the correct notes to answer it. He also said that if people keep asking he'll have to formalize it and provide an answer so please keep asking
  24. Yes, and if you look at the art page illustrating the bridge 4 tattoos and badges, there is a note on it from Nazh stating that he had to sit and watch the bridgemen for hours to get them right. Pretty safe to say that was him
