  1. Possibilities for the he: - Kaladin after his first encounter with Szeth ended in a draw. - Kabsal come back from the dead. - Eshonai finds Dalinar strangely attractive. - Adolin or Renarin after a brotherly sparring match over the lovely Shallan turned into a camp-wide brawl - Kaladin after running out of stormlight trips and falls down some stairs (he says)
  2. To be fair, it looks like Dalinar actually does have some form of "Divine Right". And what I mean by that is that he repeatedly has visions that come from a higher power. Who does he know that has a better right to judge what's right and what's wrong? Yes, in our society many of us define right by what the consensus agrees on (Food for thought: Does that make the war with the Parshendi righteous?), but that's far from universal. I'm not really interested in arguing about relative morals and all that, as it's rehashed entirely too often. But I do think that Dalinar's perspective arguably gives him a better view about the problems facing the people of his planet. Can he be faulted for taking the visions seriously and trying to accomplish what he has been charged with doing?
  3. Here is a 7 min video with a practical demonstration of the power of air pressure in the context of a localized vacuum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxcd9SRax3I With that in mind, if Kaladin had remote control over where a vacuum was placed in air, he could put a tube of vacuum between any person and an object like a rock or arrow and cause instantaneous death more or less. Or asphyxiation. Or hemorrhaging. It seems like a bit too powerful of a weapon for a Sanderson protagonist, so I assume that it can't be done remotely. IE you have to be touching an object to place a vacuum near it. I guess it could still be used for flying (for yourself only) by creating an infinitesimally thin vacuum in front of you. Of course, that could only happen by pushing the particles in front of you out of the way. If you went fast enough you would certainly break the sound barrier, and that would really be annoying for people living below you. Or it could be used as a signal! Instead of horns to call people to plateaus you just have a surgebinder fly by... Incidentally, it's a good thing you don't need to breathe when you are infused with stormlight or there would be a problem with the vacuum in front of you.
  4. I will jump off of REALLY high cliffs. I will tickle those that require tickling (the order of older brothers) I will wrap meat in bacon whenever possible. I will "try" to not stay up all night reading WoR.
  5. If you think about infusing things the way Szeth does, there needs to be contact made. So, if the stormlight went from the gem into the wall, either the gem would have to touch the wall or it would have to flow from the gem through the surgebinder and into the wall. At least, that's the way I think about it.
  6. I was looking through a friend's bookcase and he suggested Elantris to me. Sometime later I noticed it in the BYU bookstore and decided to buy it. The sales clerk asked if I had read anything else by Sanderson, and when I said no she introduced me to Mistborn. It's been fun reading, but it was only while discussing WoK with a friend I had shared it with that I looked online and found out about the Cosmere. I think that's the point I fell into fandom for the first time in my life. I was just astounded by the sheer scope of his imagination, and it's been fun waiting for more of his work.
  7. I love the antics that Brandon gets up to. He is so beloved that something like this has us practically screaming with delight/outrage and the whole time he just smiles and laughs.
  8. Two thoughts... 1. It makes sense that the parshendi aren't breeding much during war. It's hard to empathize with those who are slaughtering your people. To find this form, one must care. True empathy one must employ 2. Instead of breeding, could it be that there is a form of resurrection going on among the parshmen? A similar thing happened on Scadrial... Or possibly a very rapid maturation cycle where the child becomes an adult within a year.
  9. Has anyone wondered if spren have souls?
  10. I find it interesting that these posts are so caught up with the "right" way to judge Amaram. He isn't going to be judged by an omniscient being (I don't think even Sanderson would claim that for this context although he has the most right). I don't think trying to judge him impartially is really a useful since it won't happen. Even if Dalinar or Elhokar were presented with the facts they would have to weigh the question of whether or not he will be necessary enough to Alethkar to justify not punishing him to as much as they think he deserves.
