  1. Was just sitting in English class and saw this... I almost started laughing out loud. My teacher is Head of English at my school, so if I would have laughed out loud I would've been screwed
  2. Alright, this may have already been answered before, and I'm almost certain I saw something along these lines some time ago... but I couldn't find anything about it now so I thought I should ask Vasher is known to be on Roshar, but at the end of Warbreaker they are talking about how he will continue to live off the breath stores that he has until he gets to his Divine breath... So here's my question: If Vasher is on Roshar than how does he keep himself from running out of breathes and dying...? From the presence of Nightblood we suspect that stormlight can be used as a substitute as they are both types of Investiture, does that apply for Vasher too?
  3. I am bored, so here's some more... Possible WoK spoiler Possible AoL spoiler Another possible WoK spoiler WoR spoiler!!!
  4. Skipped the second one!? oh well, 2/3 ain't bad i guess. You've read all the best ones so you're all good. I feel ya, I have nobody to talk to about these books either, but you'll find plenty of good sanderson conversation here Welcome to the 17th Shard! Have an upvote, Beware the cookies
  5. WoR spoilers
  6. In AoL, Wax is talking to Harmony and he basically says "you're Harmony, aren't you supposed to balance things?" and Harmony replies "Yes, I sent you" No doubt raw power isn't the only way to kill another shard, in this sense I don't think Harmony will want to fight Odium directly I think that he's going to use a 'champion' of sorts to fight Odium. As we've seen, Preservation uses everyone else to finally kill Ruin, so I think that Harmony will act similarly, investing more into the people to somehow kill Odium... Then again, Brandon won't play the same card twice...
  7. Yes we do know that Shards are not omnipotent, we see that preservation can't create because it is not aligned with he shard's intent - to preserve - and thus had to work with Ruin in order to create. There obviously is some motive behind why shards do what they do, but for most of the 'good' shards we've see their actions are largely based around creating sentient life and sutaining/ protecting it from others. Preservation trapped ruin to protect Scadrial's destruction, and we see Endowment gives a breath to each individual. A shardholder is limited to the intent of their shard, and becomes more intune with that intent over time. Whereas in HoA, we see that a Shard held for a brief amount of time doesn't limit the holder as much. Odium kills because that is his intent... and yet he doesn't take other shards when he kills the holder because his motives say otherwise. Look at the 'letter', it shows that there is a greater scheme afoot, the people who initially held the shards obviously knew each other prior to their ascensions, they took the shards and were going to use them as means to an end, but become limited by the shards intent. ADDITION: And I find it interesting, a 'God' wouldn't lie or deceive or cause mischeif. But preservation tricks Ruin and binds him after they create everything. Shards can do things that are 'immoral' as long as they are within their shard's intent
  8. Are we taking into account that Raoden is in fact a king and has a bunch of little minions that could be distractions...?would he use them, probably not... would they be useful probably. Just a thought
  9. What you have to remember is that Marsh and Kel are brothers so you would have to have people who's personalities could be beleieved as brothers... Kelser - RDJ Lord Ruler - Tom hiddleston (Only problem with that is that it would play too much on their Ironman-Loki association... but regardless I think Hiddleston would make a great Lord Ruler... come to think of it he could play Kel as well...) Going on some of the ideas other people have said: Vin- Ellen Page (just becuse I don't have a better idea ) Ham- Always imaginged someone like The Rock Breeze- I think Nathan Fillon would better suit Breeze Sazed- Morgan Freeman for days... only problem is the fighting... Clubs- perhaps Bruce Wilis... he's old and cranky... Marsh- If he wasn't either Kel or TLR then Hiddleston... if not then maybe Jonny Depp... he's nice and creepy but maybe not a good enough fit...
  10. Yep, I agree that Chris Hemsworth would make the best steelheart, I actually was thinking of him and I was happy when I found out that I wasn't the only. Liam Neeson fits prof, I hadn't thought about it before, but I reckon he does... Scarlett Johansson is pretty hot and I wouldn't complain if she got casted as Megan, but if I had to choose I would take Jennifer Lawrence for Megan. Like many of you I love brandon's books and I would actually cry if Shia was casted... just sayin'
  11. Now that you mention it, that wouldn't be too bad... He goes back expecting to exact justice and revenge and finds it already done... If indeed Larai is ruling, maybe she helped his parents by helping them move to a place where his skills will be appreciated and/or to get them away from Roshone. On the other hand, if it is like kaellok said and he gets back post Everstorm, maybe he'll get back and be able to help everyone recover... and therefore earning the respect of Roshone... or whoever is in charge

  13. Hey wouldn't go back to Hearthstone and wreck havoc just for the sake of revenge, that would not doubt be a step back in character andin plot... which Brandon wouldn't do. Plus he just had a whole book about him overcoming his lust for vengeance, he won't abandon that so quickly... If his parents are in Hearthstone, they will be in some sort of bad state. Could they have been stripped of their status? If so he could have made Kal's parents his servants of sorts which would allow him to fulfil his lust for revenge. Losing their children would have broken them, and he would draw that out as long as possible... Kal will 'drop in' literally, go to his old house and find that his parents aren't there, he might go down into the old surgery room, which would bring back all the memories... and once he finds his parents gone he'll go and confront Roshone. If they aren't in Hearthstone, he's going to go to Roshone anyway to find out what happened. Likely the whole town is looking torn up because of Roshone so he will 'liberate' the people before moving on to find his parents... maybe not kill Roshone, but something cool...
  14. I'll agree that it is any interesting theory. The only thing is that I don't think Brandon would use something so simple... I have a feeling that is more complicated than that... then again I know that I'm not the only or first person to think this
  15. I have a bunch of his books, only Elantris is signed though because that happened to be the book I was reading when I met him. And I didn't have a chance to get any others signed because I too live on the other side of the world... Funny though, he drew the Aon Rao in the book along with his personal note... I got to the end of the book and was like "I see what he did there." He dropped a hint/ spoiler right in front of me and I didn't get it until the end... He's a sneaky guy
  16. Pretty much, everyone that I get to read Mistborn quits after only reading the first few pages because it is too boring... but everyone I know that gets past the beginning it gets REALLY good Once you get past the "boring" part you can just let your imagination run wild... you won't be dissapointed
  17. What we see from MIstborn is that over time a shardholder's conscience will kinda mold with that of the shard's intent which is why Preservation couldn't ever kill Ruin. While on the other hand, someone who just gained the shard can use it pretty much as they please. If spren are splinters of Shards, (we'll take Syl for an example here) since she is a splinter of honor wouldn't it just be the same thing as taking a shard, only on a smaller scale. When Kaladin first bonds with Syl his and her intents are still not in Sync, but over time they will begin to Sync up and Kaladin will begin to act more in line with the oaths... About all his right and wrong stuff... in WoK there is a part where Geranid writes down the size of the flamespren and it stops changing size; this is presumably because of the cognitive aspect of things, because it was noted as being that big, it stayed that big...On the same note, wouldn't the standards vary slightly per radiant as they each have a different view of what is right and wrong... It is also hard to talk about a general right and wrong between orders because they all have different spren... and if i'm right about the mind melding over time, then they will all become inseparable from the the intent of their spren and oaths (unless they broke them of course) Because all the orders have different intents, the first oath is kinda just a vague driving factor that keeps them all separate from Odium... because Odium is basically just out to kill whereas the radiants are ultimately to keep order on Roshar. Skybreakers follow the law, distributing it as necessary, but when possible they are required to value life over death... if there was an alternative to a death sentence they would be supposed to take that
  18. I am colourblind so I pretty much base the colour of my eyes on what people tell me, which is that I have pale blue/green/grey eyes... which from what I can see think that I would be a lighteyes When I asked my Darkeyed friend what he thought about WoK the conversation went a little like this "There's only one reason I wouldn't want to live on Roshar" "What's that?" "It's a reason that you wouldn't mind so much... because you are a lighteyes"
  19. it is Tia who has the obsession with Cola isn't it...? Is it her cola pouch that she always has with her and/or her ability to consume said Cola?
  20. As I understand it, Hoid was present at the shattering of Adonalsium. The author of the 2nd letter says "He bears the weight of God’s own divine hatred, separated from the virtues that gave it context. He is what we made him to be, old friend. And that is what he, unfortunately, wished to become." Obviously the author of this letter and Hoid's 'Old friend' knew Rayse before he took up the shard of Odium, and the part that gets me is "He is what we made him to be" could it be that the beef that Hoid has with Rayse is a long lasting rivalry that turned Rayse into the 'most loathsome, crafty, and dangerous individual' and thus is why Rayse wanted to take Odium in the first place. The author of text 2 also talks about Odium being the divine hatred without context... could the context that he is referring to the same reason that said author will not get involved... the intent of reasoning or logic. From the 2nd letter it seems that whoever wrote it is staying out of it because: A- Odium is the most powerful and is therefore a danger to his life B- He believes that Odium being trapped on Roshar is the best they can do Also, the author of the 1st letter (presumably Hoid) is actually pleading and begging him to get involved, would that not support the theory that whoever this guy is, is as close to a direct opposite to Odium as they are going to get and that his involvement could be very useful to stopping Odium... 'You have accused me of perpetuating my grudge against Rayse and Bavadin.' If the person who accused him of this was a shardholder of something like logic or reasoning or something of that affect then just think of how the conversation would go. His 'old friend'would just be trying to convince him that the reasonable thing to do would be to abandon his quest and flee... Another note about the context of the shard; while he states that the divine hatred without context is what drives Odium to so much destruction, he could not wish to admit that his sole intent being "logic" would mean that all he could do is the logical thing and flee... and so his logic without context is just as bad as Odium's hatred without context
  21. When you and your friends are passing notes in class and you write in High Imperial so that your teacher won't understand the note if you get caught.
  22. So what if you were an Electrum Twinborn and could compound Electrum? It would be several times more dangerous to have that level of adrenaline, BUT you would be able to burn Electrum with it. To a skilled twinborn that would be just as good as Atium especially since Atium isn't around anymore Also, the compounding of adrenaline could work similar to how Vin uses Tin in the first trilogy, when she is severely injured she flares her Tin and is jolted which often keeps her alive.
  23. In think I would have have to effect the amount of the stored attribute actually reaches the person. If they tap into their pewterminds, 90% or something of the strength would actually reach them and 10% would be lost. But more likely it would just be the speed at which they could tap into their stores. Feruchemists can't tap other people's stores, since Hemalurgy is taking someone else's stores it would make sense that it might be harder for the unnatural feruchemy to bond to the person and thus would make it harder for them to use. In the WoA when Sazed fights Marsh; there is obviously a big surprise factor which is why Marsh doesn't react fast enough to stop Sazed and the only reason Sazed lost was because he ran out of speed. But would it also make sense that Marsh couldn't react fast enough because it took more time to tap into his steelmind?
  24. Everyone is thinking of guns and such. But along the lines of wooden weapons, I think that either a spear or a boomerang would work. They could either be completely wood or could be capped/tipped with aluminum to cause more damage. The could both me used at both short and long distance if used correctly, the spear would work against a bloodmaker because it could be stuck in them and make it impossible to heal until it was removed. The same thought could be applied to a Thug as they would ignore the wound but it could do some major damage. and because it is wood it would work against a coinshot or lurcher. And would also be invisible to atium... The boomerang, if used right, could potentially cause major blunt force trama to anyone, especially with a Thug... strong blunt force might help to weaken one. Invisible to allomancy, and most important would be the surprise factor... nobody would know what to do with it. And all of a sudden everyone is dead. Downside would be that you could only throw either once before having to switch weapons. And they are quite primitive, but like I said the surprise factor might help. Also, if I remember right, Hazekillers originally used spears as seen when Kelsier steals the Atium.
  25. In AoL, it mentions during the wedding that they [Wax and Wayne] must have had Terris ancestors to have Feruchemical abilities. And since we find out in HoA that he Kandra were originally Terris people, this new knowledge could have lead to the Kandra rejoining the Terris people after the end of HoA and allowing for that chance to have Terris-Kandra breeding. Just a thought EDIT: However I agree that this would not give Wayne the ability to act and impersonate stright up, but given his background (that we know of) I would think he would have ample opportunity to pick it up. So it would not give him the ability to impersonate, just the ability to learn exptremely well.
