  1. And this is what I'm most afraid of. I really like the shalolin coupling, and feel that they work well together, in a similar same way to how Navani and Dalinar work well together. The Shaladin coupling is also good, and would work, but I hate the potential results of that from happening.
  2. I don't think Danlan is apart of the diagram. Graves mentions that he's working with the patriots of althekar on his own time rather than under direct orders from T and the diagram, which makes me think that the patriots and the followers of the diagram are two separate societies.
  3. Exactly like Aleksiel said, I'd also like to point out that that alot of the other uses of explosive substances, are unnecessary due to soulcasting. Actually while we're on the topic of soulcasting, we have no clue on just how much mathematics and technology is put into creating fabriels. Technology has an interesting relationship with mathematics, technology is advanced by developments in mathematics, but technology only bring up problems for mathematicians to solve. Much of our current mathematics could be known by the people of roshar, but they may not know specific relationships in their world to apply the mathematics too.
  4. I think it's more due to the fact that the Nightwatcher is located a pretty fair distance from Alethakar, that someone might not be able to make it to her in time, or don't have the means to get there. When I first heard of dalinars curse I thought he went the nightwatcher to get her to erase her from his mind, but the curse was also forgetting why he wanted to forget as well.
  5. Honestly I don't get why having a broken soul is a prerequisite to become a radiant, was there WOB about that? The way I've always seen it is that spren are attracted to individuals that exhibit ideals that characterize a respective order of the radiants. Like the honorspren want honorable leaders to bond with, and what better person to bond with than the person that when faced with adversity chooses the honorable path no matter the consequences. The lightweavers have a different set of ideals, some such that even a child might be able to exhibit.
  6. Ok I really hate the reasoning against shallan/adolin because she's lieing to the guy about what she's doing. I don't think "Gee, I'm trying to get into the good graces of the people that killed your Aunt, by spying on you're allies using magical powers, but I'm doing so to spy on them, so don't be suspicious" would be a really good thing to bring up, when you have no body that can vouch for who you are. Regardless oh who you ship, Shallan will probably hide her relationship to the ghost bloods for awhile.
  7. In alot of ways adolin killing sedeas parallels shallan killing her father. Adolin snapped after his attempt to reconcile with Sedeas was refused, he realized he couldn't change the man and something had to be done. Shallan tried to keep her family together, when that didn't work she tried to protect her family by telling them to leave, when even that didn't work she murdered her father. Yup, I mean there has to be a huge reason why the crytics and honerspren don't get along.
  8. Quick question, how old is Renarin? initially I thought he was around 21 roshar years, but now I feel like he's actually younger than kaladin.
  9. Sorry I actually was talking about the patriots of althekar, for some reason I thought they named themselves the oldbloods.
  10. You bring up a really good point, about the second way to oxygenate the brain. I guess theoretically, Jasnah might be able to soulcast the carbon dioxide in her blood stream into oxygen, and bypass the whole heart pumping blood issue, and when people weren't looking she'd heal herself and go.
  11. If we're bringing up Renarin shippings, I thought up this one as a joke, but Liftarin
  12. Well he does seem brave and obedient, but his ability to self-sacrifice(give up himself for others), and knowledge exceed his bravery. Also, lets face it, renarin will never be a soldier. This isn't because he physically can't, the killing would affect him more so than either his brother kaladin or shallan(did I mention that I feel that shallan is borderline sociopathic); also there is more to war than swinging a sword, movements on a map can save more lives than a full set of plate. Renarin is set on a path to become a great strategist and healer.
  13. The Oldbloods are the group that Graves and Moash were apart of trying to kill elhokar. Also to note is that Graves didn't join the group under orders of Mr T, but because he believed in the cause. I want to say that the Oldbloods are more well organized that it's shown so far, mostly because of the riots in Khalinor, which I believe might be guided by the Oldbloods.
  14. He gave the initial warning.
  15. I think the group that Graves is apart of in his own time could also be one of the secret societies.
  16. Halfway through the book, shallan was drawing random scenes. One of these scene was of a women breaking something with hammer and chisel, the other was of yalb and other sailors surviving and reaching land. I think shallan was drawing things that had already happened, I don't know how, but I do believe that Yalb survived.
  17. Are you forgetting Ym?
  18. You wonderful bastard you, that's a brilliant, now is it worth driving 30 minutes to my nearest wall mart to get the book. or wait till nine to pick it up at my local bookstore.
  19. You do realize if you'd ordered a week ago, you'd have gotten release day delivery and not have had to pay for 2 day shipping. Blame you're own procrastination.
  20. There is simply too many mundane uses of spanreeds that mere fact of having one would not automatically throw suspicion on you. As of now spanreed technology is prime to explode. Something like a telegraph service could be easily implemented, it's only a matter of time before someone realizes this and brings it to the common man. If you share sensitive information with anybody, you better make damnation sure the person is allied with you. Also whether you like it or not, people will continuously try to undermine your plans and economy, and its your job to develop smart countermeasures, and counter offenses to deal with them. The fact that we're sitting around debating on the security of trusting stormwardens is more dramatic irony than anything; Monarchs have no real evidence that stormwardens are working against them. This however is however is negated by the following. As a monarch, the rule of thumb is don't trust anyone. A monarch will have plenty of advisers, diplomats, and solicitors that they'll have to interact with. All those people are scheming, quite often against the monarch, but they're all still valuable tools to keep within reach, and must be handled appropriately. Stormwardens seem to be great statisticians as discussed in the lore so far, which might allow for them to be employed to determine proper tax rates for some crop, or tariffs on imports. Could your enemy do damage if said stormwarden was a traitor, yes; but it's your job to surround yourself with men that have vested interest in your proceeding, so they don't turncoat or are noticed by others of your party before great damage can be done. If not yes your nation is going to fail.
  21. Uhhh. There seems to be this impression that spanreeds are inherently suspicious and are closely regulated, I doubt this to be true. I believe spanreeds to simply be expensive, that the only ones that would buy them would be those with the means. This is because the upfront cost and the cost to have someone watch the reeds to make sure you know when someone is trying to contact you. That being said, there are too many benefits, that don't entail subterfuge and chicanery, that wouldn't draw immediate suspicion . I believe that the stormwarden would have salaries that would enable them to own spanreed, and what could the lords do, tell you that you can't communicate with you're elderly parents, talk to a friends, make business decisions, not use your own property. Also it's very likely that every 'noble' of sorts has his own network of spies and whatnots equipped with spanreed, Taravangian simply has a better network then the rest. This could be because he employs many of the stormwardens to be his eye's and ears, but something tells me that's only so good, because the general population are superstitious about the stormwardens.
  22. The thing is, as much as I hate Sadeas, he's not an idiot, or a coward, which makes him a better villain. So don't sully Sedeas' name by associating him with that prick Joffrey.
  23. I'm going to throw a curve ball here. Kalashenoi or eshadin.
  24. I'm not so sure about a true black hole, but it might be possible to increase the gravity coefficient of a rock so that it's attraction is really high and draws objects toward it with high acceleration. It could be used to quickly draw enemies into one spot, then the division surge could be used to finish off the grouped up enemies.
  25. Skybreaker hybrid technique, throw a bunch of rocks into the air lash them to your enemies at the same time set the rocks to explode on a timer, and boom instant homing missiles.
