  2. Please note that the rules doc contains footnotes for clarification. If you're on mobile, you'll need to turn on 'Print layout' to see them. 1. It does - the Therapist cannot switch their own role with another's. 2. Yes, the Curator's roleblock works on faction actions. 3. To be clear, conversions are not restricted to odd-numbered nights - the rule is that there cannot be two conversions in a row. So if the Crystal Knights skipped N3, they'd be able to convert N4 and then not again till N6. 4. No. The player targeted by an Airplane Spoon is sent to jail at the end of that Night, and will remain there until the end of the next Night. 5. It will be announced in the writeup that you were caught putting on glasses. Nevermind! I can't read. A random player will receive a PM that you were caught wearing glasses. 6. Inhibitor's glass blocks the Smedry kill and negates the effect of any glass the target is currently using. 7. It degrades two cycles after its first use. If the Engineer wants to use it, they must spend a night action to put it on.

  4. Day 1: A Coolidge Conspiracy LG64 has started! A few changes have been made, so find the final ruleset here. (The OP will be updated to match shortly, but isn’t yet.) Of note: The Crystal Knight win condition is to be the only faction with living non-captured players. The Rogue Smedry's win condition is to be the last living non-captured player. The Crystal Knights cannot convert the Smedry. Players have one action per turn, which they can use on a role action or to create a PM by submitting an order to the GM. In general, role actions are night actions. The Silimatic Engineer role has been reduced to four different kinds of glass, for simplicity's sake. GM PMs should be out within the next five minutes. Player-player PMs will take slightly longer. Day 1 has begun and will end in 48 hours, at 6pm PDT on April 1. Remember that you may submit an action to PM another player during the day, which the GM will create at the start of Night 1. Please do not create any PMs with other players yourself.   5. After a fair amount of discussion, we've settled tentatively on this: The Jail-breaker has three chances to break people out from prison. Each time, they get more practiced in breaking people out, so they're more likely to succeed. But the guards become more and more alert, so they have a higher chance of being caught. Try 1: 80% chance of failing, no chance of being caught. Try 2: 50% to fail, 30% chance to be caught. Try 3: 20% chance to fail, 60% chance to be caught.
  6. Hm, okay. I think that's fine - we may create individual roles for the Smedrys, and may or may not reveal what they are. Or we might use others' roles. TBD, but the principle of it is fine. Hmmmm. I think those are reasonable, though Wilson and I might have small tweaks. (For instance, Jail-breaker might have a higher chance of failure or released players might have a limited time to stay out.) My spreadsheet is going to be unhappy. But yeah, those look fine. Probably going to rule that the first rule doesn't apply to PMs, pending further consideration. Announcement: Signups for this game will close tonight at 9pm Pacific Time as specified in the OP. Then we'll have a day for Wilson and I to make final adjustments to balance, and the game will begin at 6 p.m. Pacific Time.   7. Hm, okay. This will not count towards the PM inactivity filter, then, but that's fine. Don't worry. We will fix the balance. That makes it a village-vs-two-evils deal, so the village will be buffed a bit and the Crystal Shards nerfed, but it's certainly doable. We may have to provide some disincentive to the evil teams working together to win the game, but that's fine. Basically, balance is our job. You tell us what idea you want, and then we make sure it works. What you've given us so far is definitely feasible.
  8. Flavor, win condition, faction action, interactions with other factions... pretty much anything, really. If it’s too much we’ll let you know.
  9. Hm. I would advise against that. The village killer doesn't have to kill: killing should be dangerous for them, so they don't just kill someone every cycle even if they don't have a target. The elims do have to kill (or, they technically don't - I'm pretty sure there was a game where they didn't or near-didn't - but it makes the game much harder), so the risk-benefit looks less like "both options have pros and cons" and more like "both options have cons". It's akin to every village lynch having a 15% chance of killing a village - the village will still do it because they don't have other options, but it'll make the game harder to win. A killer can say "ah well, I gambled and lost". The elims can only say "I did what I had to and chance killed me anyway". Or, revision: if you choose that ruling, I would recommend a stronger elim team than standard (so, larger size or at least one healer or both - healers help a lot here, in fact).
  10. I think making the spy and healer possible for either alignment would be an excellent idea. If you want to make the killer confirmed good, that's your choice as the GM and minor enough that I won't contest it. (I will grumble, but that's because I have a longstanding grudge against confirmed good roles. It's even in my sig.) I mean, the Hidden role could still work. Essentially as it stands, the Nightmaw is an unblockable kill that the healer can't help with - only the Hidden role can avoid it. You could make it a one-time kill: once during the game, the traitors release a Nightmaw at their preferred target. This is a solution to, for instance, wanting to kill a player who's highly likely to be protected because they're extremely trusted. Hm. Here's a suggestion to consider: everyone's experience starts at the same level, but increases every time the player posts 200 or more words of RP. Or of game-related discussion, if you prefer. You certainly don't have to this, or any variant of it, but my reasoning is: 1. Mechanics encouraging discussion or RP are almost always effective / popular. 2. Starting the game with some players more disadvantaged than others by chance is okay, but not something players always enjoy. (This ties into a stronger principle of 'complete randomness takes agency away from players', which I'm going to try to avoid giving a speech on right now. ) But I know that also takes away from the flavor a little bit. Okay, this is also a good point. I was more focused on the confirmed roles, but alignment scanners can cause similar mayoring issues. A Spy could claim C1, asking for protection, and confirm people every day. And then the elims can't kill the scanner, and have to either let confirmed villagers build up or commit to killing them every night. (Unless there are two protects. Then it's even worse.) Probably the Spy gets lynched eventually, to make sure they've been village, but even if there's one Good Looking aviar in there it's still a huge advantage for the village.

  12. Ah, I was going to mention that and forgot, thanks! I'm fairly sure the answer is no: pillars will block all actions, but not PMs. Generally no, since it doesn't count towards their win condition. But it could happen: for instance, if a captured player is very accurate on several of their members, and generally helping the village (or, conversely, would be really useful for convincing the village to go elsewhere). Unlikely? Sure. Would I convert LG21!Aman in such a scenario? Probably.
  13. Ooh, ooh, a First of the Sun game! Fantastic! I'm going to assume that the green color of these roles means they're always villagers. This is generally not ideal. Scenario: I'm a killer. I'm going to take a gamble and assume there's at least one healer in the game. Therefore, I claim in thread the first cycle, asking to be protected. This makes me an effectively guaranteed villager, since I can say "X will be killed" and then that happens. Because the healer can protect me every cycle, the eliminators can't kill me despite me being a significant threat to them (probably. Not all kill roles are equally successful), and meanwhile because I'm a confirmed villager everyone trusts and listens to me. Especially if I'm a player known to be "experienced" or "good" or whatever y'all are calling it nowadays. This is frustrating to the elims, and the village plays follow-the-leader instead of doing their own analysis. Scenario: I'm an Aviar Spy. Despite being a role-scanner, if I scan any of these three roles I can be absolutely certain they're good. The lack of PMs being open helps, significantly, in that there isn't an instant trust circle. But if I'm in contact with a PM person, I can indirectly tell any healer I scan to protect X other good role. Or tell a killer not to kill X other people because they're healers or spies. Etc. It makes the village much, much more accurate - and unlike the Spy, my role is verifiable. Elims can mimic alignment scanners fine, role scanners not so much. And that's even more helpful than a Spy, since I can't be fooled by Good-Looking Aviar. Basically, what I'm saying is: I know it makes sense for these three roles to all be village. And sure, you probably won't give the elims a kill. But you could absolutely give them a healer or spy just to trip up an Aviar Spy, for instance - and even if you don't it's always a possibility. But any roles which are confirmed to be a specific faction have historically not been great for the game as a whole in one way or another. Okay, I have a slightly different question than Straw here. What's the point of this role? Traps have a purpose: they make powerful roles more risky to use, so players have to choose whether their target is worth the risk. But this is two arbitrary deaths that may affect the balance of the game for reasons entirely outside the players' control. So it's an interesting flavor, but as a game mechanic it's not something the players can interact with, change, or strategize around. Does the player know their experience level?
  14. Hello all! Time for a multiquote, because even as a GM I can't help it. Correct. Unless Kynedath says differently (as they submitted the lynch mechanics rule), it'll be random. Again, Kynedath can have input on this, but I would rule no - if you're captured and lynched by plurality, you'll die as if you'd been lynched by majority. (edited to remove everything that isn't a question) Crystal Knights will be added to an elim doc as they're converted, and that doesn't need to be made into a rule by one of you. We will definitely make sure this game is balanced for both sides. Right now, that somewhat depends on the final roles and rules, but I think it's fairly likely that the Crystal Knights will not get a conversion every cycle (since conversions are twice as powerful than just kills). I'm going to rule that the Crystal Knights can convert captured players. Remember that role and alignment both will not be revealed upon capture, only upon death. You're correct. The Gossiper can have anyone in this group PM, whether they also have a personal PM with that person. Effectively the Gossiper role doesn't interact with the PM rule at all, which you can think of as only covering one-on-one cases. Faction action, last submission in the turn. I'm not sure about twice per game, though it depends on the eventual number of players we have. I'm assuming that this is not a public, announced action: do you want to be a turn in advance (so put in during the previous Day turn) or simultaneous? Though the last bit is somewhat unlikely, I'll nix it anyway - more than one night of no actions in a row is going to be annoying for everyone. Fifth? You're amazing.

  18. The kill counts as an action, and only one action may be taken per cycle. (This doesn't apply to passive roles like Edgedancer or Elsecaller, though.) In general, no. If that person had dropped out and was about to be replaced by a pinchhitter, perhaps, or if they notified us ahead of time that they'd be unable to access the Shard (complete power outage, that kind of thing) they might be allowed to submit an order ahead of time.

How would they know that a mass Dustbringer Cycle was even coming when at that point it wasn’t public knowledge, at least as far as I am aware of, that everyone is a Worldhopper. For reference, here’s where the idea was posted in the D2 thread, and this was after a significant number of worldhopper deaths close together:https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/87978-anniversary-game-6anonymous-game-7-we-shall-all-be-changed/?do=findComment&comment=948990 This could just be an honest mistake, but it’s a very specific mistake as it arguably wasn’t possible D1, and Tuatara’s death makes it impossible to prove whether or not it was with them. 2. This second point is partially as a result of reading through most of Rhino’s posts. Before he was outed, he on several occasions linked Saffron and Sunburst together, describing that if one flips village, it is likely that the other will as well, and the same behavior if one or the other are elims. (https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/87978-anniversary-game-6anonymous-game-7-we-shall-all-be-changed/?do=findComment&comment=949136) This statement coming from an elim makes me think that the opposite is true. That one of the set is village and the other is elim. It makes sense, as if the elim is killed, then by that logic, an additional villager would also be killed, and if instead the villager was killed, the elim would be protected by being seen as villager. It makes sense for him to link someone he knows is a villager to someone the village trusts and therefore cementing Saffron’s cleared status further. 3. D1 lynch was a bus. I genuinely think that it was, and I think this for two primary reasons. A. The timing. Iguana’s vote was literally the last vote and post in the turn, and they don’t provide any real reason for switching from Magenta Albatross, they use RP B. The way the previously mentioned Rhino post specifically puts down the idea that the lynch was a bus. Anyway, while I worry I may be tunneling, this was the best way for me to get out some actual analysis without breaking character. Feel free to tear it to shreds. Cheers!   20. Day 6: Axehound, Found and Lost “Nobody has seen it?” The exasperated head-shaking of the group of soldiers told Jesh it was another lost cause. Jesh himself was confused. How hard could an axehound be to miss? The creatures were nearly as tall as he was, and he had been told several times that he was tall for his age. Most importantly, Trisk was friendly and sociable, and would come up to anyone who she thought had food. And she thought everybody existed to give her the remnants of what they ate. So the soldiers across from him really should have at least spotted Trisk by now; the city was only so big. He’d given them the axehound’s markings and everything! He felt a tear well up in his eye, and pushed it down with some effort. Would he be doomed to be stuck in the city forever looking for her? “Thanks for your time again,” he managed to get out before he broke into tears in front of the whole group, and ran from the area where he’d been talking with Vamah’s party. Odd that nobody had seen the man in hours, but Jesh didn’t care at this point. He had to find Trisk! Moreover, he was tired of Kareana’s restrictions on Radiant movement; if a group of untrained soldiers could wander around the tower scouting, why couldn’t he, a Knight Radiant, look for his lost pet? Turning the logic over in its head and recognising its infallibility, Jesh knew it would be hopeless convincing Kareana, who called her decisions “logical” when they contradicted directly with Jesh’s ideas and tried to use a supposedly more advanced adult method of logic. No, she would deny his request and have him watched if he spoke up. Instead, he would need to slip quietly out. Chancing a glance through the Breakaway, Kareana was fully engrossed in a conversation with the leading Radiants and scribes. That would take her a while, and Jesh was good at silent movement. He ducked into the shadows of the room, those who did see his passage not thinking it noteworthy, and was out the door and sprinting into the halls of Urithiru within minutes as the sun set on the floating city. Trisk would be found. Jesh collapsed on the hard stone floor, weeping and exhausted. Three hours of searching had yielded no sight of Trisk, and he had checked almost every level of the entire tower, especially the ones with current and old food storages. Still nothing! That creature was evasive. Or…no. He would not begin considering the possibility that Trisk was…no. He shoved the thought down as best he could, but it remained floating on the surface, sending him into a fresh round of tears. As he sobbed, he heard the sound of footsteps growing closer, which were too near to run away from before escaping detection. An hour or two ago, he’d have been mortified at the thought of Kareana catching him. Now he just wanted to get back into the Breakaway and sleep, no matter how much he was chewed out for it. Trisk was resourceful and could survive, and she’d wait for tomorrow to return to him. He just wasn’t looking forward to finding out who had come to rescue him. The door opened, and light from the hallway flooded into the dark chamber where Jesh sat curled up. One of the wall torches outside the room must have been lit, and a silhouetted figure stood framed in the doorway. Jesh subconsciously scooted back. This wasn’t Kareana, or anyone he recognised from the expedition’s leadership, and it was still impossible to see. The man halted in the doorway, looking down at the child. “Are you Jesh?” he asked softly. Jesh suddenly felt a spike of anger inside of him resolve itself. Who was this person to go around demanding answers from him, a small child trapped and lost, when he was clearly in no state to be doing anything much more than sleeping? “Why does it matter to you, sir?” he retorted, with more heat than expected. The level voice was unperturbed by the outburst. “Since you appear to be, I have to wonder why you ran off earlier today. I watched you go, and you’ve not been in the Breakaway for three hours. Kareana is worried, but I’m suspicious. What have you been doing out in the city by yourself? And why haven’t you run into trouble yet being alone? Several others have.” “I’ve been looking for my axehound!” Jesh replied heatedly. “Not everyone is heartless and suspicious like you seem to need to be. I actually care about Trisk, and…” Jesh trailed off, seeing another silhouette whisk by in the doorway. A silhouette nearly as tall as him, with a carapace and legs. “Trish!” Tiredness and the interfering man forgotten, Jesh took off at a full sprint for the door, heedless of the person in his way, causing the silhouetted figure to raise his hands, almost unconsciously, and release a storm of fire and dust. When it cleared, the crackling of the charred corpse of Jesh and the whimpering of an axehound were the only sounds heard on the thirtieth level of Urithiru as the moon rose above, while highstorm clouds came rolling in below. And between them, another Knight Radiant lay slain. Sernes stalked the halls of Urithiru, trying to decide whether to go back to camp tonight. On the one hand, safety in numbers... but that hadn’t meant much for Tnaidar, had it? Or any of the others, really. But there’d been just as many deaths out here... He started at a sudden noise. Was that... footsteps? Getting closer, too. He looked around frantically, but there wasn’t much cover. He ducked around a corner and stood back pressed to the wall, hoping whoever it was would just walk past. “Sernes?” a voice called, and Sernes relaxed. “Sernes, are you there?” He stepped back around the corner, smiling in relief. “Here.” “Oh, good, I was worried I’d find you already dead or something,” the other said. “You know I’m too stubborn to die,” Sernes laughed. “Wait, already?” That was about the point when a knife took him in the throat. “Already,” the other confirmed. “Quite a waste to go looking for you so long to kill you if you’re already dead, isn’t it?” Sernes didn’t answer, but then, he did have a slit throat. Kind of made it difficult to speak. “Ah well,” Odium’s servant said. “Your voice was always annoying, anyway.” They wiped their knife on Sernes’s body and walked off, humming. Sam contemplated the meaning of life. When he’d been a Darkeyes he’d not really thought much about it. He just went about his life, because that’s all he knew. But when he became a Radiant... his entire life had changed, and he didn’t know what to make of it. The question had become more urgent when people started dying, though. What was the point in their deaths? What was the point in his life? He at least wanted to figure it out before he died himself, and that was looking increasingly likely by the day. He’d considered that there was no meaning at all, but he hated that. Then he thought it might be love - before his girlfriend broke up with him, at least. Friendship was a contender, but Sam didn’t have many friends so he wasn’t doing very well if it were friendship. “Happiness?” he murmured to himself. Maybe, he thought. He would like to think it was happiness. He sighed, standing up and pacing back and forth. “The meaning of life is happiness,” he said, trying to sound it out. “The meaning of life is friendship? No, no, that doesn’t ring right. The meaning of life is...” “Survival.” The voice was cold like steel as it blasted flames into Sam’s back. The Dustbringer shook his head and walked away. So I fell asleep in a chair for two hours and need to go back to bed asap so this’ll be quick it’s Night 5 here’s a writeup Fifth did because he’s lovely and capable of staying awake sein’s is not done yet because I fell asleep and also know absolutely nothing about destiny help The squadron of spearmen marched through the lit corridor of Urithiru leading to the Breakaway. They were the first of the reinforcements which Dalinar had promised Kareana, and while there were no Radiants among their number (quite intentionally), they would still help secure a greater portion of the tower city, especially the parts which were already scouted. At their head was Brightlord and Major-General Vamah, who was an interesting choice of Dalinar’s; Kareana thought him something of an incompetent fop, with more knowledge of Roshar’s flora and fauna than of tactics and fighting, but that also made him easier to direct. Perhaps that was Dalinar’s way of indicating that she was still in charge of the expedition, despite the need to send a high-ranking officer to reassure the ordinary troops going there. She smiled, the thought cheering her as she greeted Vamah warmly, if with a slight edge. The man returned the greeting, sitting cross-legged on the cold stone floor as Kareana briefed him on the Unmade and other knowledge from their most current scouting. Vamah mostly nodded throughout the exchange, asking a polite question here or there about certain areas, and when Kareana had finished, he stood up to his full height. “Thank you for the information, Brightness, which I am sure will be useful to us as we aid you in your scouting. I’ve certainly heard enough about the thirty-eighth floor to want to avoid it, and the other areas where men have been murdered. However, I do wonder about a certain thing; if you’re really limiting scouting expeditions to three parties a day, the entire squad doesn’t need to go with them every time. In fact, they’d probably just get in the way. What if I took a fourth group of just soldiers into a lower-risk or cleared area to do further investigations? It costs you nothing, and we may learn something useful.” Kareana frowned, weighing Vamah’s request. The idea seemed good enough, and was perhaps the mathematically soundest distribution of soldiers, but she did worry still about the shadows. Without Radiant protection, half a squadron of soldiers would still be essentially dead meat, and with it, they would be baggage. She shrugged slightly. It was the man’s own life he gambled with, in the end. “I do hope you fully understand the risks these shadowed beings could pose,” Kareana cautioned him, “but you’re certainly free to explore if you wish to. Just know that no Radiant will be permitted to wander off alone with you or anybody else, so if you get neck deep in trouble, you’re bailing yourself out.” Vamah smiled. “Understood, Brightness. We will report anything strange to you, naturally, including the shadows.” If you make it back alive, fools! Kareana raged inside her head. She breathed deeply. The major-general would likely never understand until he had encountered the things himself, which, hopefully, would never happen. She dismissed him with a wave to search the fifty-eighth floor, a cleared level, and with that dismissed him from her mind. She had more important things to worry about than the potential death of a foolish general; the matter of the actual death of a number of dependable and sensible Radiants was far more of a blow, and one they could ill afford to take several more times. With more planning and a firmer grip on the small remainder, however, Kareana hoped to demonstrate that the Knights Radiant could unite, cleanse themselves, and be the beacons they were meant to be. They just needed to stop the infighting. The last soldier stepped back onto the lift system, preparing the ropes to have them be moved back up to the Breakaway. Vamah’s first exhibition had been an unmitigated success; the fifty-eighth floor was devoid of shadows and suspicion, and his squadron had found several artifacts, mostly gemstones, which the ancient Radiants had used. He nodded to his lieutenant. “You have the sample for Brightness Kareana?” The man nodded in reply, gesturing to the large gemstone secured in his breast pocket. “Excellent. I’ll take another look at that structure back there, and will be up with you all in a minute.” Some of the squad frowned, unwilling to leave their leader, but most were aware of Vamah’s eccentricity, and these were the ones who seized the ropes and began ascending the lift, silencing objections. Vamah grinned, setting off at a good clip as the squad left him. Urithiru would be full of ancient mysteries and technology just waiting to be discovered, and the central structure of the inner chamber on this level was one such contraption. It looked to be a sort of furnace or fireplace, with a large shaft shooting upwards for ventilation, and a grill of metal between its inner workings and the frame he could see. As to how it worked, that was another mystery. Was it powered by Stormlight, or could an ordinary match set it ablaze? The latter could be tested, at least. He took a small match out of his coat, struck it, and threw it between the bars of the grill. A loud whoosh of flame came to his ears as the furnace came to life, crackling red-hot. With the illumination, he could see that the large grill in front could be opened, presumably to incinerate objects, or to forge ordinary steel—perhaps it was simply abandoned by a craftsman who lived in the great city initially. Swinging open the grill, he peered against the bright light inside the contraption, looking for clues of its ownership or origin. As he did so, he felt his shadow growing darker behind him, and froze. Was this what Kareana had warned him about? Glancing over his shoulder, he saw with horror an oily black figure seem to rise from the ground, resolve itself into humanoid form, and push, sending the unfortunate major-general toppling into the furnace. There would be for him no return. As night fell in the towers of Urithiru, Jesh and Jonan sat together, whispering. "I miss Trisk," Jesh said. "I hope she's okay." "Yeah," said Jonan. "We'll go find our axehounds once we're done helping Sein, okay?" Jesh pouted. "We could find them now." "It's not safe for us to split up and be alone. There are dangerous things out there. Murderers," Jonan said. He cast a wary glance at the entraces to the room around him. Some of the spheres were already dun after days of use by Radiants, so the room was only dimly lit by a bowl on the edge of the room. They cast strange shadows on the corners of the room. "Sein goes off by himself all the time," Jesh said. "Yeah, but he's a Ghost-whatever. I'm not sure he even knows about the Odium sympathizers running around and killing everyone," Jonan said. They spent a moment in silence. Another sphere went out, the last of its Stormlight finally leaking away. Then Jesh quietly ventured, "What if Sein's one of the murderers?" "Come on, kid, you know he's not," Jonan said. But he spoke as if trying to convince himself. He had heard the other Radiants murmuring to themselves about the weird little spren. He was strange, they said. He couldn't be trusted, they said. With a chill, he remembered Brightness Kareana's words. "Don't trust the spren here. They could be corrupted." A loud screeching sounded outside. Then another. "Voidbringers!" Jesh said. Jonan leapt to his feet. "Get behind me, Jesh." He held his hand out for his Shardblade, heart hammering. Ten....nine... It was so dark out there. He couldn't see into the corridors. His Shardblade manifested in his hand, and at the same time something whizzed towards his face. He swung towards it. "Got some signal! I'm transmitting back to Sol --" The Shardblade connected just as Sein moved into the light. It sliced easily through his shell and fuzzed though his bright blue eye. Light exploded out of his core. Jonan threw up his arm to protect himself, but it passed harmlessly through him. The two halves of Sein clattered to the floor. In another universe, in another time, a Hive Wizard received a signal. She was a fearsome sight, with three glowing green eyes and tough carapace for skin. Three Guardians surrounded her, pumping magazine after magazine of bullets into her that were absorbed harmlessly into a shield of energy. She didn't appear to pay them any attention. "Hmmmmm," Dûl Incaru said. "A world full of secrets, murders, and trickery? Mother will want to know of this." She idly waved her arm, and a moment later the three Guardians dropped dead. A vicious grin split her face. "Oh, yes. Let's see if their cunning stands up to ours."
