  1. Welcome! Have a cookie Wow, what a doozy of a first question. The answer is.......really complicated, because each one would affect the others differently, and we don't have a lot of information on that interaction. We know that hemalurgy can be used to steal power from any magic system. We know that stormlight can be used to fuel Returned so that they don't need to live off of peoples' Breaths. We know that stormlight is an easy investiture to convert to use in other systems. We know that allomancy (Mistborn) would be really hard to get working with another system. Brandon has described using one magic system to power another as "hacks." Each person wanting to use another magic system than they normally could would need to hack the system to get it to work. We've seen Vasher hack it so that he can use stormlight instead of Breath. He hasn't, however, figured out how to use stormlight for Awakening. Here is a good collection of Words of Brandon or WoBs about hacking investiture. https://wob.coppermind.net/adv_search/?query=hack Beyond those, we're not really sure how hacking investiture can or does work, just that it can usually be done. Sorry for the less-than-complete answer!
  2. IF anyone who's there has a recorder or phone they could use to record the event, that would be awesome
  3. Cool. Also I was about to edit my post because I read too fast and didn't see you were already intending to. Sorry, got too excited!
  4. Can you take a picture of the answer, so we can put it in Arcanum?
  5. Just think "loser" and then lose the r. *Waits for the Rude'Shara puns*
  6. Heh okay I'm done. Anyway, again. Navani I think would be great at being the Urithiru bondsmith. I just really want there to be some normal Kholins around, too.
  7. I don't think smooshing Navani into a thin paper cup, then chomping down, would be very healthy for her...
  8. You're right. I should drop it. I'm sorry for any hurt feelings. I was trying to be helpful. I'll try and do better. If I fall, I will stand up a better (wo)man.
  9. I know, right? Two things, both of which are good, in different ways.......
  10. I'm sorry...I don't understand this? I'm not being disingenuous. I actually do not understand this. I mean, the whole thread was about opinions. I repeatedly said that everyone's opinion was valid. I have screenshots. I repeatedly said that we needed to keep it civil. I repeatedly said that no one was intending any insult, so please forgive any unintended ones, and let's stick to the subject. In the very first line of my post, I said, " because we have our own opinion, which is that we liked it, and we're explaining WHY we liked it " . I was attempting to cool down tempers that were growing heated, by pointing out that everyone had a right to their opinion. I tried to make a point with you a couple of times, and you disagreed with it. So I stopped. Because I didn't want to come across as aggressive. And that's what I'm being criticized on. This is utterly and completely baffling to me. I was literally doing exactly what I was supposed to do. I just...I don't.... What?
  11. I see how Navani could be really appealing as the Urithiru Bondsmith. My only real problem with the idea is that there are way too many Kholin Radiants I know they're more likely because they were the first, and that's where the spren will be watching. But it'd be nice to have a non-Radiant among them too. It's why I'm so torn on wanting Adolin to revive Maya or not.
  12. That would certainly be....a lot of destructive potential
  13. Those are the statements and replies I am referring to. You literally say, "without any actual arguments to back it up." So I'm not sure how else to take that? I was trying to explain the PoV of the people who are arguing with you, acknowledging that I didn't find everything enjoyable either, but that they were still well written, without getting into an argument that I felt would end with hurt feelings all around. Because I took exception to a lot of things. Using Shallan was just the first thing I thought of that I remembered that you mentioned (I didn't even remember what you said about her, specifically). But you were entitled to your opinion, no matter what it was, and I didn't want you to feel like I was invalidating it in any way. Edit: And when I see that I'm replying to a new person, I will always go back and add extra encouragement and positivity to my reply, expressly so that they will not feel piled on or unwelcome.
  14. There's a degree of irony here. The complaint from the poster in the original thread was that I was stating invalid opinions because I wasn't backing them up. In other words, I was actually not arguing with him, and he found that annoying. The reason I wasn't arguing with him? Because I disagreed quite a bit, and if I started, I knew I was going to come off badly. Seriously. Irony. A lot of it. I'm sorry if there's a tag-team impression going on. Calderis and I happen to be active at approximately the same hours, and I have the tab open on my computer fairly often, so I can see and respond to things quickly. I promise it's just coincidence and timing. I think we must be in or in adjoining time zones or something. Also, as I said, I'm very fact oriented. And in my mind, the best way to help a newbie is to expose him to facts. Perhaps I'm wrong. I mean, if you notice, I'm one of the first to answer any questions in the Q&A, and I try to be as thorough as I can be. That's my method of making someone feel welcome. I mean, that's how *I* would feel welcomed...
  15. Very true.
  16. Well, most marriage oaths involve swearing to love and cherish? So if she didn't love him, that's technically breaking her oath.
  17. It was in WoK She might have been physically faithful but mentally unfaithful? I'd really like to have her interact with her children or grandchild occasionally...
  18. I think if you're ordering the leatherbounds you can. I'm not sure about regular ones (of if they're available). Absolutely! A wasted question is like a wasted mind, a terrible thing to...waste. (Kidding, there's no such thing as a wasted question, it just fit the silly joke). 19. Weighing in on the shipping issue real quick, even though I have absolutely no power to influence any decision I don't particularly care for shipping, but honestly, it's not that hard for me to scroll past a post where someone mentions it, and keep going. As long as it's on topic and doesn't throw off the thread, it's fine. Also, on tone: I very rarely intend to offend anyone. I'm very passionate and very fact oriented. If I ever offend you or you think I'm getting carried away, please, just say so. I don't take offense unless it's intentional or horribly unfair, so saying, "Hey R'Shara, I think you're being kinda rude here" is fine. I'll 99% of the time say, "I'm sorry, I didn't intend to be rude. Let me try phrasing it better."
  20. That's really cool!
  21. I think he was trying to destroy Feruchemy for good. He killed any he found out about, and the breeding program was to stamp out Feruchemy. Yep, aluminum vials will totally be a thing!
