So, I'm reading Portland (already finished Dalles), but happened to see the latest stuff between Nighthound and Red, and... I just wanted to compliment you too, because those interactions are so creepy and I love it. I can't wait until I get caught up. So I can see how Ray and Nighthound met. (Oh, and Twylight? I think part of the creepiness is because of how he treats them. They have collars, he treats them like a mix of pet and slave, and Nighthound wants to break Ray into being Red. That is insanely creepy, in multiple ways, and it makes me want to see more of the dynamic between Ray and Red, especially since the former hates Bighthound and is under orders not to hurt Red, while Red... doesn't. For either. The R Sisters. Shudder. I sort of want it, but still...creepy.)

I'm kind of surprised that thought never occurred to anyone either. Though more because, since being able to fly doesn't seem linked to Pegasus having wings (instead being magic), one can assume that Earth Pony's connection to the ground and Unicorn magic works on similar principles. Which means spiking two other races should let the third become artificial, hemalurgically-ascended alicorns. This has possibilities,

Cool name!...of course I might be a little biased, since when I hear/see the name Warbird I think of 90's Captain Marvrl, but still! Welcome! In the spirit of giving in this festive season, I offer you a pony!

The plan was for the end of the month but... Well, maybe it was bad idea for this to start in the holiday season. Regardless of whether you celebrate anything or not, this time of year tends to be fairly hectic, between family get togethers, new years, and so forth. So... I'm wondering if we should either extend the deadline to the end of January, or just scrap it and start with the January prompt, giving us all about a week or so extra time to plan/get started/whatever. Thoughts?

You ain't really gonna turn down a pony f'r some cookies, are ya mister?

Anyone else here watch Haven? It recently finished airing the (first half) of Season Five, so I figured I can ask the question without having to worry about spoilers.

To be fair, I like Let it Go because it speaks to me on a personal level about anxiety and overcoming problems- especially since Elsa wearing gloves a lot reminds me of my germs phobic OCD tendencies-... And because I interpret the song as being about Elsa's sexuality, ie: my head canon that Elsa is gay.

Alternative theory: Elsa has been spiked as well! She's evil now! Meaning the Herd is the only non-spiked faction left. Join us, and not have rusty metal stuck into you!

If you want to feed your Sanderson addiction right now, he has s book available for download on his website, by the title of Warbreaker. I prefer to call it Best Cosmere Book, but to each their own. Anyway, you should read it, especially if you liked the Stormlight Archives.
-
It occurs to me that the Stormlight Archive would be hilarious as a campaign, Darths and Droids style webcomic. Seth: The Kings at the end of the hall? I charge at him with my sword! Brendan: You can't. The hall has stone flagstones, and you have the Stone Shaman flaw, remember? Seth: Then I run along the wall with my magic! Calvin: Wall-running? Sweet. Remind me to take the Wind-Runner class when we level up.

Skyfall, during the climax of Words of Radiance. I mean, it's practically perfect for it! "This is the end" "Hold your breath" "Count to ten" Heck, it even doubles as a villain themes! "Drowned and dreamt this moment" can work as a reference to Kaladin's 'vision' from Way of Kings, and to Eshonai's Odium-induced villainy, as can "Overdue I owe them" (Owing Dalinar vs "Owing" the Alethi for killing her kin).

Question! What's the difference between a Light Novel and a...well, Novel that happens to be printed in Japan? Are light novels exclusively web-based? If not... Well, I've read a few novels by Murakami, when I was going through a bit of a surreal-ist phase. His books strike me as the novel equivalent of a David Lynch movie.
-
Oh! Oh! I have a theory on that! So, I haven't seen the film in a while, so this might not be all that accurate... but I don't recall people making all that many Earth references. He had the mix-tape, the troll dolls, and the Footloose running gag... but I don't recall much beyond that. He just tended to use a handful of tricks a lot. My take on it is that it's a coping mechanism for him. He lost his mom, and his planet- meaning his entire family and all his friends- in a single night. He has baggage and trauma, which is why he was so hung up on the getting the mix-tape back; it's symbolic. Earth is important, so he holds onto that culture as best he can... but it's a 7-year olds view of what that culture is, so it's not especially deep or knowledgable. Also, the stuff he focuses on the most- like the mix tape and Footloose- are things which not only tie him to his planet, but to his mother. I don't think Peter ever really got over his mothers death, so it makes sense for him to hang on- even if it's forced- to the stuff he associates with her.

But surely nonsense is the beating heart of chaos! Ergo, you should be doing RPs the most. ; )

I change my mind on favourite Doctor, but I have a fondess for the backhalf of the classic set; Six, Seven and Eight. I like Six's arrogance, the darkness in Seven, and the exuberance of Eight. All of them should have gotten longer (and better) stories than what they ended up with. Best companion, though? No contest. Captain Jack Harkness; one of the only reasons to re watch Torchwood. I love Jacks swagger, his charm, and for me, his sexuality; he was the first character I ever met like that, so it really expanded my mind on what science fiction and modern television can do.

I am a crocodile. "But, dude, imagine if you could be, like, fire." I am a crocodile. "...Woah. That's deep. What if, deep down, we're all crocodiles?" ...more seriously, thanks for the vote of confidence Kobold, and I'll try not to let any of you guys down.- 314 replies

That is a fantastic name, marred only by one fault: Warbreaker. You don't seem to have read it, or have any plans on reading it. Thou wouldst do well to correct that oversight, lest thou incur the wrath of the princess of the night! ...Or at least the Superhero-themed-username guy using her picture, but I digress! If you haven't read it already, I really recommend it. Anyway, welcome to the board! (Also, Edgar Targarien? That's awesome.)

Discussion on State of The Sanderson 2
Quiver replied to Moash's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I was going to make a joke about how this is how the machines will take over, Judgement Day, terminators, etc... but if the Sanderbots were Skynet, I'm sure the next film wouldn't be Genesis spelled with a Y. Anyway; more Mistborn, yay! Also, the Dark One sounds interesting, though admittedly I'm not a big fan of "Teen" fiction. Of course, I also haven't actually read Brandon's teen fiction, so that's a horrible thing to judge it on. Point is- I'm interested by the concept, and looking forward to more books... and of course, any post to do with Nightblood will get my attention. -
Remember this day, little ponies, for it was your last. From this moment forth, the night... will last... forever!
-
Inpudent Foals! Did you did not see the signs? Now, the night shall last forever! ...Well, okay, technically I've been a Midnight Essence for a while, but I finally found a picture I wanted to use for it... especially since I love Nightmare Moon's expression. It looks like she's reading my posts, and thinking "What the storm is this?"

First off, I want to echo what Kobold said; the amount of detail you have for this world is amazing (and makes me feel bad about how sparse my worldbuilding tends to be). I'm not certain what plans you have for the world, but I would love to see you do some writing set in it (or turn it into a straight up RPG system. That would be cool.) ...Oh, and I'm working on a character for this, if you guys don't mind. I won't have her finished until the new year- a mix of wanting to spend time with family over Christmas, and going through the threads and world building stuff to make sure what I have in mind fit's- but... yeah. This is a notice to see if you guys are willing to let me play with you. (Resumé speaking... er... I got nothing. I did a bit of roleplaying in the early sanderson elimination games I did... but then, that was more fanfiction-ey writing than RPing. If you're curious, this is probably the best example of my writing in those.) Anyway, character. Bare in mind that, right now, this is just a vague concept for the character; I tend to hammer out personality and stuff as I go. So, the idea is a female... "monk" might be the best word for it. My "pitch" for her is that she's a follower of the goddess of love; not the romantic, Aphrodite-interpretation of it, more like... a goddess dedicated to Platonic-Love, whose main tenant is basically preaching that everyone should get along. (The shorthand I use for this is "Goddess of hippies", since I sort of picture the character as having that kind of zen, zoned out air about her, being dedicated to non-violence, and judging people based on whether or not she get's a good feeling from them.) I kind of picture her as being very naive and sheltered- admittedly in part so that I can get sued to the setting. She's been raised on a small monastery, the kind of place where everyone knows everyone else and where everyone shares the same religion and belief; her leaving it to see/proselytism/whatever-reason-I-come-up-with is basically the first time she's meeting people who don't believe what she does, or who don't have that "live and let live" philosophy.- 314 replies

How about Warehouse 13? It's a pretty fun-albeit, often lightweight- show that doesn't contain much via the way of gore or sex. You know the ending of Raiders of the Lost Ark? A television show built around that place. I like it, though I will admit it's very lightweight, and sometimes uneven. Still, the cast are always fun to watch, and I think the concept itself is really neat... Oh, and I recommend Ponies, because... you know. Ponies. #bestshow (Oh, and just a word of warning... I actually sort-of agree with EnaMai. I actually kind of enjoyed the Legend of the Seeker, which is surprising since I hate the books it's based on... I just feel I should warn you that, while there isn't anything sexually or gore-ily explicit, there is an episode or two which... toes the line, at least.)

Series you were disappointed with...
Quiver replied to ProfessorMLyon's topic in Entertainment Discussion
To be fair, I've seen (and said) it about a few other series. I think Eye of the World is a pretty bad, very cliché fantasy book, but people have told me that the series improves as it goes on and Jordan finds his own voice. I personally wouldn't recommend the first Discworld novel to someone who I was trying to get into the series... but then, each Discworld book is basically stand alone anyway. -
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (spoilers)
Quiver replied to DanTheSeamonster's topic in Entertainment Discussion
So... I don't have time to give my full thoughts on the film right now, but I wanted to chime in here: I agree with you, with regards Smaug's resolution and how it affects the cliffhanger. But... the more I think about it, the more I think that the Lake Town scene should have been the climax of Desolation. I haven't seen Desolation since it's release, so it took me a moment to remember where everyone was and why they were there. As much as I loved the scene- -And let's be clear, I loved the scene. That action scene was what I was waiting for- -it felt like it was tying up all the loose ends from the second movie; Bard, Girion and the Black Arrow, the Mayor. Those were all elements which were introduced, and had significance, in the second film, and shunting their resolution forward didn't sit right with me. I think Jackson could easily have removed the Dwarves confrontation with the dragon and fit it in. ...And actually, on the topic of Bard...- 14 replies

Well, I have to drop out of this month. I won't have computer or internet access after this week, at least not until the new year comes in. (I mean, I could just write on paper I suppose and transpose it over, but still...) Anyway; I'll start a topic for everyone to submit stuff to before I leave, and I'm working on getting someone for the January writing prompt. Sorry about that though; I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with though!
