  1. Scadrial. Thank you. couldnt pull the name from memory. and if you read before my Edit.. that may or may not have been the Edited part.
  2. 3 of 16 ruled is, i think, a reference to the Big Picture in the Cosmere (and by extension nearly everything written by Mr.Sanderson)... when Adonalsium(sp?) Shattered it created 16 shards. 2 of which we saw in the Mistborn books (I am a terrible fan... i havent read Elantris or Steelheart or any of the rest of the cosmere works)..... please be gentle.... But there are other shards present in the rest of Mr. Sandersons work. 3 of 16 i think is in reference to Honor, Cultivation and Odium. The three Shards we see on Roshar woring togetger in something that resembled civility. Ruin and Preservation did this as well for a time.. Edit: I may or may not have been drinking.
  3. I don't think so.. if you break it right down, it feels an awful lot like a "choose your own adventure" book. Maybe the personalities were right, but at the bottom, he was playing an external memory projected into his mind. I just happened to have some really awesome interactives..
  4. He isn't going back in time.. his interaction is simply in his mind with the vision. Not the historical figures in question.. Which really is quite a feat on the part of Tanavast.. like an interactive cut scene in a video game. One that responds specifically to your input and reactions...
  5. It just happened that he was projected into the mind of a man who knew the modern sword forms intimately enough thousands of years ago to cause a PROFESSIONAL WARRIOR to comment on unfamiliar stances? And feverstone keep, he was a layabout with almost no motivation. To the point where his counterparts found his order to "stay sharp"noteworthy? That guy suddenly remembered how to be a soldier on watch, at that moment, of his own volition? I doubt it.. It may only be the vision interacting with his mind, but there is interaction. No question....
  6. When Dalinar is having one of his visions, he isn't simply an impassive observer. He sees them through the eyes and mind of someone IN that vision.. for all intents, he IS that person for the duration of the vision... does that help?
  7. Beautiful painting. I always find myslf a bit envious of people who have the ability to translate things into images on paper. Whether it be with oil and canvas or pen and paper. As a side note, even thought i know better, i always have trouble picturing her with red hair. Unless i stop and think about it, i see her with jet black hair.. i have the same problem with Kvothe. Bizzare.
  8. HAHA!! I was Lincoln Douglas.. my mouth ran off way faster than my brain and got me in trouble once.. Teacher said, " You know, you may want to check out LD".. Good call my friend. Good call. But I still think the best way to get the info Gavilar had would be Flashbacks. And I honestly think what he knew is crucial in one way or another to the story ahead. Additionally, I really want to see Dalinar and Szeth around for a while to come. Both are still primed for massive Epiphany moments, and I don't want them to be deathbed moments.
  9. Gives us Gavilar.. I know, I said the same thing when it occurred to me, as well. But, it does make sense. We know almost nothing about him and he had a pile of information that I am sure will be important. I am now CONVINCED that if Dalinar dies, it won't be until very late in the 1st cycle of SA.. Thoughts? Can I get a Negative Rebuttal? Edit: Negative Rebuttal is in reference to my Debate team days.. Im not looking for negativity.
  10. IMHO, the reason Fabrial Science hasn't been able to recreate Shardblades is because they aren't BUILT... they are created by the bond between a Spren and its bonded person after that person has spoken all of the Ideals respective to their Orders. If you are in possession of an Abandoned Blade, you: have no right to it and are in possession of something that has most likely been corrupted by Odium or his influence since the Recreance. A few more of my pennies to the pile.
  11. What if we are looking at the "Lighteyes" thing wrong.. Szeth and Kaladin have both shown LIGHTED eyes.. as in backlit or shining light. Im pretty sure "LIGHTEYES" should be taken as a quality of the eyes, not the colour of them... So even the current "lighteyes" are darkeyed.. as in, their eyes have no illumination... Which would, of course, mean that Roshar as a whole has got the wrong interpretation as well.. Edited to add the last bit.
  12. This is the qualifier for me. Good men sometimes do bad things for what they might think are good reasons... Dunno if Karma exists on Roshar, but her bill is always collected. Amaram will have to answer for HOW he acted. Though I somehow doubt if either Kaladin or Dalinar are involved.... That being said. If Kaladin DOES confront Amaram, we already know that he can defeat a full Shardbearer. He has proven it thoroughly once, and that was before he Spoke the Ideals. With his new understanding of his bond with Syl and of his use of Stormlight, if it comes to confrontation and a fight, it probably won't be a Duel, it will be a "fight in the streets" and Kaladin will have no need of borrowed shards to win that fight.
  13. Like every other Epic Fantasy series I've ever poured myself into, I'll have read WoR 4 times by May or June.... that's just how I roll.. On to my wish.. I sincerely hope that Kaladin does NOT find a love interest in WoR. Its just too soon for someone in his position. He is still learning who he has become, or rather who he is Becoming, settling who he was, not to mention recovering emotionally for what he has been through. A romance in any form right now (especially a typical sci-fi/fantasy romance) would just hinder him. Mr Sanderson has done a fantastic job of avoiding Cliches, I hope he doesn't fall on this one......
  14. And I agree that the Radiant Plate was Summoned and that it was way more efficient as a result of the Ideals being spoken aloud.... In the presence of a bonded Spren. I have a feeling that THAT is the missing qualifier for all of the modern Plate and Blade holders we have seen. Now that Dalinar has given his away and Kaladin has never held them, we simply have towait for someone Bonded to progress far enough in the ideals for their spren to remember provide the Plate and Blade once they are earned. It just feels right to me that Spren are the key to it all. Edited for typos
  15. My pennies on the pile.. Why shouldnt an Honourblade be dismissible? It seems like a terribly encumbering and awkward thing to simply pack about. And i think that the difference between the standard Shardblades Power and Honourblades More Power would be a Nahael bond (sp?). It takes a Spren to unlock the potential of the respective Blade. Or do we know if the Heralds even had spren bonds. The Radiant Plate behaved differently than the modern Shardplate does because of the bond, am i correct?
  16. After reading all of the transcriptions from readings (that I found at 2am today) i knew my idea was wrong. i appreciate the responses, though.
  17. I have been in the Gavilar was the Parshendi Shardbearer court since i first read the sequence. Sooooooo.... Dalinar dying and Becoming a Parshendi Shardbearer fits my little hallucination quite nicely.
  18. it is a long, long story that starts with Orson Scott Card and ends with hearing about Mr. Jordans terminal illness. A journey spanning over 20 years. "Journey Before Destination" in action.
  19. Dunno, it seems to me that the Cryptics are only "visible" to a select few and they exist primarily in Shadesmar (cognitive? realm). Sort of suggestive with regard to spren and stormlight. Their physical manifestation may be somehow dependant on Highstorms and Stormlight, but surely the cognitive realm isnt. it exists everywhere, right? And since Stormlight can be neatly packaged and transported, access can be had at any point on the map Forgive me if ive made a terrible mess of this, it made perfect sense before i typed it out. PROMISE.
  20. The moment i was hooked was in the Prelude. All of the Heralds, save the one who had died, left their obligation standing in a ring and walked away from it. That was a VERY profound moment, at least to me. And the well written story combined with well developed characters, a magic system that works (mostly) within the boundaries of physics (as far as i have been educated in Physics, at any rate). Have all combined to draw me in completely. Into this series and of the rest of the Cosmere. edited to correct Prologue-Prelude
  21. I've roots in Roanoke. My mom was born and raised there, does that count? Through Military and relocations, we have dispersed to all corners of the map, though. edited for spelling.
  22. Has finally come up to the front of the classroom to introduce himself. I spend a lot of time lurking in forums; WoT, WoW, Stormblessed 17th Shard, etc. Mostly because people have really interesting thoughts and insights that i would have never considered on my own. Aaaand because there is truly epic comedy to be found in almost every topic. I dont post much becasue my thoughts are much more efficiently arranged when spoken than when written, something gets lost in transmission. But occasionally, something will occur to me or someones post deserves an up-vote. So, here i am. 33 father of 2 boys, 1 & 3. And i am a Com Tech, everything from the old 2 wire telephone to fiber optics.
