You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Swimmingly replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you've trained to use your thousand-page books as blunt trauma application devices. -
What about having mages highly specialized within their fields - a talent for one particular use of power. So, for example, a fire mage might be really good at accelerating fire such that he can turn a piece of wood into ash, a giant ember, charcoal, or smoke in an instant but really sucks at throwing fireballs, or a water mage who can extract oxygen from water and breathe it with great precision, but not be able to do more than make ripples in terms of macroscopic manipulation.

I want a single strip of paper the width of a receipt printed with the complete works of Brandon Sanderson so I can have wallpaper for my entire house. Each room will be named after a different book. -

I think that Murphy's chance to be a Knight passed when she refused the offer. She's not getting that chance back -

I believe this brings us to a second, more pressing point of order: You're a fishy greenmonsta. I'm a monstrous green fish. THIS TOWN AIN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR THE TWO OF US.

Reading Rainbow's Kickstarter
Swimmingly replied to QuantumHarmonix's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I came a bit late to the show for that to be a part of my childhood - by the time I was in grade 1 I was already reading short novels, and I never really needed encouragement. I'll definitely take a peek at the kickstarter and check it out.- 3 replies

The thing about that is that there is just as much reason to put Buddhist, Hindu, and every other major-religion relic in there as there is reason to use Islamic relics. So, might as well stick to a theme. Those relics probably have a whole lot of power too, Hades just doesn't hold on to them. Nicodemus is probably interested in Christian artifacts because he works pretty exclusively with figures from that mythology. Everyone else is interested in them because Nicodemus is interested in them. -
No. However, Pterry's stuff is still worlds better than what I could do. I'll keep reading what he's writing, because, frankly, even his worst works are better than many published authors.

Sell. That would be too easy. Kaladin is never going to quite overcome his class I am issues.

The Sanderson Tutoring Institute
Swimmingly replied to Virtual Mayhem's topic in General Brandon Discussion
He leaves a single folded piece of paper with a riddle and no answer. The class assignment is always to try to figure it out. -
I just had the oddest image of a guy standing outside a brothel, shouting, "STDs! Get your STDs here! Only nine ninety-nine ninety-nine! Get your STDs here!"

Note that there are actually five oaths per order, not three; Kaladin isn't a full KR yet. In addition, some orders use squires commonly, but others seem to be more individualistic - can you honestly imagine Renarin acquiring or finding at all useful a loyal following? I bet that many squires, as well, never actually become Knights, remaining in a subservient position. The exponential Stormlight users consequence is also capped by the number of willing bondspren - there are a finite amount of possible KR, and the actual number is probably far less, as I very much doubt that a majority of spren would be willing to risk themselves like that.

Only the best for my fellow Sanderfans! -
Well, shallan can turn her creepy eyes brown if she has to, not to mention any Lightweaving she can do.

Cut someone's arm off with a Shardblade while they sleep. Surgically remove the arm without damaging the bone. Give the arm to a small kandra, then reattach it to them when the kandra's replaced the flesh on the arm. Allow them to wake.- 978 replies

Syl: "But I've helped men kill before."
Swimmingly replied to aheerema's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think that an entire order - 1 of 10 - betrayed. That was the Skybreakers. -
It's probably an occupational hazard of getting magic from disease. Sometimes, it just sticks around, even when the main effect is over.

Turning protagonists into antagonists for fun
Swimmingly replied to kari-no-sugata's topic in Stormlight Archive
Kaladin the surgeon-boy, slight and spoiled rotten, With rusty knife and grimy hands he probed the wound I'd gotten. "Here's the problem," so he cried, "you've rotspren in your head! And so I must be airing it, or you'll so soon be dead!" "Air my brains?" I winced in pain, his nails in my gut, "I'd sooner face a highstorm with my skull jammed in a rut!" "'It will be fine!" he scoffed at me, knowing and contrite, "Unlike the last ten times so far, I'm sure you'll be all right!" And with that condescending phrase he grabbed me by the cheek, Forced my throat some horrid pills, with rancid bitter reek! To cut a short and gruesome tale Shorter and to the (bloody) point The trepanning went just as well As you'd right annoint. My ghost may linger in this town Til callow Kaladin retires But should that bastard ever glow, Well, I feel sorry for his Squires. -
I'm guessing that he just really sucks at aiming handguns, and his dorky personality churns out a simple lack of skill into a point of pride.
