Long Game 25: A Breath of Power
Araris Valerian replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@Magestar: You didn't actually place a vote. @Ecthelion III: I would like to hear what you have to say, both on what happened to you and who you are suspicious of right now. I would like some feedback on whether or not we should try and figure the probability of winning the breath lottery (so, have people reveal their results of the lottery). It would at least give us approximate odds of Ecthelion being a returned, and future players that don't get killed by being drab. I actually didn't enter the lottery, due to confusing cycles in MR 16 with this game. So that would slightly raise the chance that Ecthelion recieved Breath.- 473 replies

Long Game 25: A Breath of Power
Araris Valerian replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Good point, Conquestor. I posted about that earlier, but then totally forgot when this cycle started. I'm not really sure what the best way to deal with that situation is. We could ask people to reveal if they won in the lottery, but if 1 or more returned lied about it, then there is no way for us to get accurate information about the number of winners. And that would in turn just tell the Returned who now has extra breath to be stolen. If we roleblock Ecthelion 3 rounds in a row, then that should kill him, unless he wins the lottery, and assuming that he is returned. This is because he would have only 1 breath after returning. I'm not sure if it is worth doing that, but it is at least a possible plan. I totally agree PK, that the village has no information day 1. That also means that the eliminators don't really have to do any lynch steering. Actually, if I'm an eliminator, then that would probably make Magestar more suspicious since I directed the lynch away from him. At this stage of the game, lynches give information, and I don't have anything against lynching Magestar. I never said that I wanted to avoid a coinflip. I was just backing up a statement I had made earlier in the game with my actions. The exact wording of my post is this: I would say a generic villagery post is "For me to win, we need to team up and share information, which is going to be hard to do." (Not a reference to a specific post) There is emphasis on the player's win condition, and a vague hint at strategy, but nothing actually useful. The only really informative thing here in these posts is that Magestar is planning to get lifeless. Due to the statement at the end, the rest is just fluff, as I see it. Magestar did give us a list of his reads. If he votes on one of them (or elsewhere), I might consider sending my vote to someone else.- 473 replies

Long Game 25: A Breath of Power
Araris Valerian replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, I guess Ecthelion won the Breath lottery, so lucky him. I'll start off the cycle with a vote on Magestar because of his statements during the night cycle, which were generic and villagery but didn't actually add anything productive to the conversation, in my opinion. If we didn't have an inactivity filter, I would jump at those players, but we do, so hopefully we can get a bit more discussion this cycle.- 473 replies

Mid-Range Game 16: War of the (Cosmere) Worlds
Araris Valerian replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hadrian glanced around the arena. Finally, no more politicking. Lets have some fun! He felt around in his pockets, and pulled out a few small sacks, tied at the top, and two pens, totally inconspicuous. Smiling to himself, he walked directly away from that woman, Keisha, who claimed she was from Scadrial. He could let the crow-begotten planet burn: House Penrod would get along fine without him. By the great furies, he would find new allies here that would appreciate a good joke, at least as long as they stayed alive.- 537 replies

Long Game 25: A Breath of Power
Araris Valerian replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I misunderstood the rules when I posted about the lynchee passing breath; since the game description post says that passing breath happens during the day, rather than after it. I'm going to vote for Bard right now. While I disagree with his plan, the greater reasoning behind this vote is his attack on Bugsy and myself for deliberately misleading people about the rules. Actually, in this case, attempting to follow the suggestions we gave would just have no effect, and everyone would figure that out after a single turn. I would probably vote on Bugsy as a second choice though, because of what Bard pointed out his statement of breath counts. The reason I'm not voting here directly is that 8 Breath is a rather high amount to start with, based solely on the costs of Awakening, which suggest that 9 Breath is a Lot.- 473 replies

Long Game 25: A Breath of Power
Araris Valerian replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm trying to work through whether or not it is a good idea for players to reveal that they have had their breath stolen. Of course, the eliminators already know who got targeted, so doing so can only help the village. The problem comes with the Potential Returned (I'm assuming that they don't know they have this role), since that role gets kinda ruined for anyone that reveals that they had their breath stolen. Since only one person can have their breath stolen, and the writeup confirms whether or not someone did get stolen from, it means that the eliminators can't fake-claim to get breath gifts from other players. As for Bard's plan, I think we (as a community) already have a hard enough time locking in on one lynch target (not necessarily a bad thing). Trying to lynch two people in one cycle, and requiring the active participation of one of those members in their own lynch, doesn't seem like something we can organize very effectively. It also is somewhat against the spirit of the LG format, where players have 48 hours to respond to each cycle. Reducing that time by having two 24-hour lynches imposes a time commitment on people that they didn't expect when they signed up for the game. In my opinion, if you are getting lynched, and are a villager, you can just pass your breath to the person that revealed that their breath was stolen. We don't need to bother with a second lynch to save that player. We just need to be wary of a WGG, since any system like that where we save the person targeted by the night kill is very vulnerable to that sort of strategy. On a last note, I somewhat agree with Twei about Meta's first post. It struck me as off that Meta would try and explain the actions of another player so early and in such a trivial situation.- 473 replies

I'll join up as Hadrian Penrod. Wilson, I promise not to make any agreements with you this game, so that you don't have to worry about me breaking them. This should be a pretty sure way to boost my death rate towards beating Mailliw, and I enjoyed the first version quite a bit.- 537 replies

Long Game 24: The Godless City
Araris Valerian replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, we could lynch a whole bunch of folks. Just make a big tie between 3 or so people. Right now I am comfortable lynching @jaimeleecee, who my vote is on now, and @Arraenae, who is suspicious because of her exchange with Silverblade, and I don't like how she tried to discount my comments about myself when most of the players voting on me had little to no reasoning of their own, and all voted within a short timespan. Silverblade and Elenion we can just have the vigilante roles kill, or have them be secondary lynches this cycle.- 1559 replies

Long Game 24: The Godless City
Araris Valerian replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Aman, one quick thing on the voting for Emerald last cycle, you missed a vote that Jaime put on Emerald. I remember counting 3 votes on Emerald when I made that post, and I also remember having a hard time seeing Jaime's vote. But 3 votes without any discussion did seem like a bandwagon to me. And I kind of assumed that people would try and balance the lynch with Mailliw once we decided in a secondary target, so that is why is discounted that Mailliw already had more votes. @Arraenae You discounted my defense quickly by saying that I was basically redefining the meaning of my original post. But if you assume that is correct, then as Aman pointed out, I would be going against one of my biggest sticking points in SE. Which seems like an illogical thing to do. Jaime has twice voted with little explanation, and I have decided to take this personally. @jaimeleecee, what do you have to say about Emerald, and myself, and my response to Aman's analysis- 1559 replies

Long Game 24: The Godless City
Araris Valerian replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Haha, this is a great thing to come back to. I guess I'll try and address what I can, Aman. Let's start with the first point you made, where it seems I missed something you said. I was actually trying to hit something else here, and it didn't come out very well in my post. I was looking at the specific scenario where we are trying to kill both a suspicious player and a secondary player that we don't want to waste discussion. I didn't see you point out this specific type of scenario, and I guess I overstated that by saying you hadn't address double lynches at all. As far as the Pirate, I was again referring to the specific scenario that I mentioned above. If we decide someone is worth lynching, and after the fact it turns out they have a second life, then we don't need to focus a whole day's worth of discussion on them. This is where we employ the tie to let us still get good discussion and kill the suspected eliminator. I was in no way implying that we should go after all the extra life roles. With Emerald, since I am on vacation, I made that post with the context of the Day 2 thread, and the last 10 or so posts Emerald had made. I was low on time, and couldn't figure out how to search for all posts by a player the way you could on the old format of the forum. But I hadn't really caught on that she had taken flak Day 1. All I saw was a post by Elbereth claiming a gut read in Emerald, followed by 3 players voting Emerald without justification. That looked to me like Elbereth starting a bandwagon without actually joining it herself. It seemed like a really fast bandwagon considering that there was over a day left in the cycle, and in truth, I didn't notice much productive discussion (although there were circumstances that somewhat justified that). I realize now, based on the votes on me, that what I saw as a response to Elbereth is more due to the dynamic of the players in this game, combined with a Day 1 that I was not really involved with. I appreciate the Aman was willing to hold off voting on me, and I also understand the players that didn't, but I think I've done a fairly good job here of justifying what I've "done" this game. Now, I need to go eat some dinner and watch a movie, but later this evening I commit to coming back and placing a vote of my own on somebody, with a decent amount of analysis behind it.- 1559 replies

Long Game 24: The Godless City
Araris Valerian replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
All I can say is that I was worried about how quickly Emerald had gathered votes without any discussion, since I was working under the assumption we were going to lynch 2 people. Elbereth was the first person to mention Elbereth, and hadn't placed a vote of her own, as I remember. And I felt like I needed to vote on someone, since I had been kind of absent cycle 1. That being said, I probably won't be online again until this evening, and most days in the next week or so I will only be on twice a day, since I am on vacation!- 1559 replies

Well, I guess I need to speak up a little bit, so that people can get a read on me. (I need to catch up to Mailliw's fatality rate, haha) Anyways, I find it odd that so many players are willing to vote on Emerald. I find this particularly off for @little wilson, who usually seems to think things through a little more than that. Now, after I post this I am going to go reread Day 1, but there is rarely anything that is worth such an immediate bandwagon. (Okay, I actually went through some of Emerald's more recent posts, and while I found them unhelpful, I didn't see them as suspicious either) I'm gonna vote on Elbereth right now, because it seems to me like her post set the direction for our secondary lynch today.- 1559 replies
