  1. I don't really post anything (I enjoy reading other people's thoughts more) and I'm not well-spoken but I'm also really, really disappointed by Brandon's silence. Brandon Sanderson is the ONLY author I will buy a hardcover book for on the release date. He's also the only author I've ever attended multiple signings for. As a person of color and as an Asian-American, I feel seen when I read his books (does that even make any sense?). I like that his characters are people with problems. I like that they overcome their struggles and hardships to help those who can't or struggle to help themselves. I feel like Brandon has a platform in which he can let others hear his voice. I know sometimes people feel like saying something won't change anything but I know how important it is to feel seen. The reason I enjoy his books is also one of the reasons I feel even more disappointed by his silence. I can understand where others are coming from, in that they don't want to put unnecessary pressure on Brandon. I even find myself thinking of reasons as to why Brandon hasn't posted anything. But the fact that he's choosing not to publicly support the BLM movement and Black Americans is really disappointing to me. I know not everyone feels this way... but I find myself sad that an author I look up to is choosing silence as his answer.
  2. Wow I actually forgot we get preview chapters today! I loved this week's chapters - Shallan's chapters were especially good and I'm am SO happy we finally got to see Bridge Four. I also laughed when Pattern told Adolin, "... go do something stupid without letting me watch" LOL It's also interesting that both Renarin and Shallan can sense the wrongness but not Dalinar? I wonder if Kaladin will be able to sense it once he's there? Also, I can't wait for Dalinar's chapters when he surprises all the monarchs/leaders with his visions. I also appreciated the small bonding moment Renarin and Shallan had. Although I don't know if I could call it a bonding moment but at least they're having a conversation without Shallan thinking how creepy he is. We're only a couple weeks away until the book is released!!
  3. I feel like it's getting easier to wait each week for the chapters! And now we only have a few weeks left until Oathbringer comes out! I can't wait until it comes out so I don't have to wait a week for three chapters to come out aha. Shallan's story was really interesting! What she did with her story was really cool. I don't have anything interesting to say except I love Adolin and I wish we would get appearances from Renarin from someone other than Shallan.
  4. I agree that Kaladin's chapters are way too short. I feel for the moral dilemma Kaladin is in, I feel for the way the Parshman feel, and I hope the they don't end up being evil either... Also I guess the voidspren is a she?
  5. Wow! I always think the chapters can't get any better and they do. I agree that we don't quite know if the yellow spren is voidspren yet. Although it's hard to speculate since we don't really know what voidspren are like yet. I wonder what the parshman are going to do once they get to their destination? If they're escaping, why would they head towards Kholinar? Especially since it seems like they're wanting to avoid confrontation? I also worry about Shallan :/ Especially if she is starting not to know what are lies or not lies. And I love Pattern and Syl. And I love that Pattern likes Adolin and that he was happy when Shallan said she didn't want him to die :')
  6. I am also not a fan of the white savior but I think it's too soon to tell whether or not Kaladin will be the one to lead them. I also think that defending innocents is just part of Kaladin's character and would be more disappointed if Kaladin didn't do anything to help the freed Parshman. I also don't see why there has to be "one" person leading the freed Parshmen. I can't see why it can't be both Eshonai and Kaladin and/or Radiants. Although, to be honest, I feel like the new freed Parshmen (I don't know what to call them anymore??) are different then their counterparts and I feel like the sense of "belonging" is important for a group of people or culture is important.
  7. Oooh okay that makes a lot more sense. Also that's a great point!
  8. Not as exciting as the other chapters but still really good! I appreciated the distinction between Voidbringers versus Listeners. I also feel like Kaladin will relate to them the most, considering he was a slave as well. I also guess that depends on how much they remember their time with the Alethi. Maybe a lot considering they speak Alethi really well? Also how different are they from their counterpoints? I thought Listeners/Parshendi didn't need words to communicate with one another? Yet this group was communicating with each other verbally despite the fact that they were amongst themselves. Also the yellow spren was really interesting! I thought for spren to be intelligent they needed a bond? I'm also excited for spren interaction. We didnt really get that in the last two books! And as for the Shallan chapters, I'm kind of concerned for her mental well being :/ I haven't had the chance to read the other comments yet so I'm going to do that now!!
  9. I love the banter between Syl & Kaladin! Also poor Elhokar. So excited to go save Kholinar with Kaladin but Kaladin's already on his way there... I also wonder who the radiant Taravangian found is? I hope it's someone we've already met. And I hope Jasnah shows up soon. Dalinar seems a little lost, politically.
  10. He keeps Glys in a box? I haven't even met Glys and that seems kinda... I always thought it had to do with his autism. Sort of like a sensory toy.
  11. I love that Kaladin didn't need to pull out Syl right away to intimidate the soldiers. They just knew he was dangerous. I also wasn't expecting Kaladin's and Syl's reactions. I thought Syl would be sort of embarrassed for Kaladin and Kaladin would be indignant. Shows how much I know! I like that Kaladin was embarrassed about his actions right away and didn't hesitate to take authority over the situation. I also like that we didn't have to wait too long to get a resolution to the Hearthstone situation! Yay! Thoughts I had while reading the chapters - I appreciate that Laral matured! Mentally I mean. I thought it was interesting that Aric described the new Parshman like Voidbringers. I mean, we know and Kaladin knows that is what they are but the people from Hearthstone had no way of knowing. I guess stories have a lot of impact! Where are Parshman/Voidbringers going? I forgot that Kaladin hadn't experienced them firsthand yet! I wonder how his first encounter with them be like? Everyone is describing them as monsters but maybe Kaladin's encounter with them won't go the way he expects it to. Was them going somewhere else because it was some kind of instinct or an independent decision they made themselves? I found it oddly sweet and funny that Kaladin doesn't like swinging Syl around, haha. Old spren? Four genders? Renarin continues to be interesting. I wish more people would direct the questions at him. On top of what he is, I'm sure he notices a lot more since he's always observing everything and people don't even notice he's there. And he seems to know stuff. Interesting that Dalinar "pulled" Shallan. Can he do that with every order? And can Shallan do that only with bondsmiths? Or can she recreate illusions based off memory/experiences from others as well? A murder?? I wasn't expecting that at all! Rlain! I miss Bridge Four. I know we've seen them in the background but I miss seeing their interactions.
  12. She was actually there in the elevator with Dalinar as caught per @Toaster Retribution! She was only mentioned in passing though. But like both of you have mentioned, I am curious as to why Shallan is sort of in the background at the moment. I'm sure we'll find out soon what she's been doing! Side note: Like others have mentioned, I also found it very cool that Syl's aunt hunts gloomspren and that they're rare. Are they rare because there are spren that hunt them or are they rare because people are rarely as gloomy as Kaladin?
  13. Oooh I didn't catch that small detail! I guess it's because she was mentioned in passing, my mind moves on. I'm going to read the chapters one more time haha. And I remember her being there in chapter two.
  14. That was SO great. I was reading the chapter on the bus and I teared up a little at Kaladin's reunion with his parents. Syl is awesome. I love her! I also appreciate that I can tell that every character (at least the main players) have gone through some growth in the last two books. It makes me unaware of what they're going to do next. Chapter 4 was also super great! Very unexpected. I didn't expect them to have their wedding that way! The people who attended the wedding also surprised me. It makes me realize how much the situation has changed in a very short time. It's also interesting that Dalinar is aware that he's an usurper. I wonder what Elhokar is going to do, if anything? I don't think she was there at the wedding. It's a little frustrating that we haven't seen her yet but then again, we've only read 6 chapters so far. Unlike Renarin, there hasn't really been a mention of her. Maybe she's out exploring via a disguise? As for Renarin, I hope he takes a more active role soon. I really want to know what is going on inside of his head!
  15. I can see that! I have a slightly different opinion though. Renarin was always told he was "sick" and people basically viewed him weak and unfit to be a fighter, which in his eyes makes him feel and think others feel as if he's useless. If I were to grow up that way, I wouldn't feel confident either. And personally, as someone who doesn't feel confident in her abilities, it's really easy to doubt yourself than it is to believe in yourself. I also don't think he ever bothered with his powers because he probably didn't even consider the possibility that he could be a radiant (in-training). Which makes me excited to see his character growth! Especially now that he has a purpose.
  16. So interesting! I know we've gotten Dalinar's flashbacks before but I still find it really interesting to read how different the past Dalinar is vs the current Dalinar. I also thought it funny to read that young Dalinar said he never felt young but he reads young to me, in a way Kaladin didn't. Things I thought were interesting: Renarin! He only showed up for a bit but I hope he gets his own chapter. I'm also interested in seeing how his character grows in Oathbringer! I can't wait to meet his spren. Nine shadows!! Dalinar calling Teft by name. Not a huuge deal and knowing Dalinar he probably always knew their names... but I always heard them referenced as Kaladin's bridgemen so it's nice to see them acknowledged by name. Dalinar's flashback, where the dying brightlord asks "why us" and Dalinar doesn't know. Radiants needing to be on both sides of the Oathgates Kaladin and his squires. I wonder how Rlain will fit into this? The direction the aftermath of Sadeas murder will go to. I never really cared about the relationship that Dalinar and Navani had but I actually liked reading their dynamic in the preview we got. Edit: Dalinar and Fullnight! I wonder if we'll see how Dalinar got Gallant? How long do Ryshadium live? And I'm sure there's more but I'm too excited to think of anything else. It's interesting both how short three chapters can read, even though they weren't that short and they contained a lot of interesting things.
  17. It's already been said but one of my favorite scenes was Adolin's fight against the shardbearers and Kaladin jumping in. I think that was also the only Kaladin scene where I wished I could see the fight from the point of view of a spectator instead of from Kaladin's point of view.
  18. It's already been said a dozen times but GOSH I LOVE SYL. I also adore Syl & Kaladin's relationship and the way you can really see how much Kaladin really cares for Syl and his fear that someone will take her away from him and it just makes me want to weep because they're so cute GOD. Also, I think we've gotten a excerpt every week since the first chunk (prologue, etc) and last week it came out on Tuesday also. Does this mean we'll get a excerpt every week until Words of Radiance is released? If so, that's so awesome but it just increases the pain of waiting but I just can't seem to stop myself from reading the excerpts as they come out haha
  19. I also think it's interesting that Shen got a uniform (I'm assuming he wore it as well). Or maybe it's not, I don't know. Shen isn't a servant anymore but he isn't a Parshendi warrior either. It makes for some interesting future character development.
  20. Hello! I've been a lurker for a while now and I guess I don't need to mention what drew me out of lurking C: Brandon Sanderson is one of my favorite authors and my first Sanderson book was The Way of Kings, which has to be one of my favorite books (I own at least three different copies). My other favorite of his has to be Emperor's Soul, which I try to recommend to anyone looking for a new book to read and I'm very excited for WoR, like many others! Nice to meet you all!
