  1. I never said that Atium/Lerasium weren't Allomantic metals (or maybe I did, but that was not what I intended to express), but that they're separate from the Allomantic metals of the Allomantic Table. Quite possibly, they form their own quadrant of quadrants or whatever. I do not dispute the existence of Seers, and I do believe that there would have been more than 16 types of Mistings. I am not sure if there would have been Atium-Pewter type Mistings or not, but I suppose there would have been (although someone on this forum suggested that Atium Mistings might be able to burn all types of Atium alloys). My main problem with the "Leras swapped C/B or N/C with Atium/Malatium" is that I doubt that Preservation would have been able to foresee that the level of technology preceding Ruins escape would not let them discover the harder-to-get metals, and that the only Atium alloy they would discover was Malatium. Preservation did indeed have some form of future-sight, but I do not think it was extensive enough to know all of this. I know Harmony was able to do some minor changes/tweak to the magic system of Scadrial, but I think this amounts to changing how Snapping occurs and not to changes in the Allomantic quadrants. EDIT: Don't know where the "not" went from "I do not dispute the existence of Seers". Yomen was a Seer. I would have no basis to claim Seers did not exist, and I didn't intend to either.
  2. Either that or this is when his ability to see into the future and his ability to foresee other people's actions overlap. I think there is enough evidence to suggest that he has three abilities. His inhuman dexterity being one, and his precognition abilities having two facets.
  3. This falls in with my interpretation of it, which again was largelly influenced by how Alice's (from Twilight (I know... please forgive me...)) power works. The only problem is that naturally occurring dangers would fall outside of his powers of precognition, so in the end, there might be several layers to what he is able to foresee or not.
  4. Not sure Steelheart deserved being voted #1. I don't know how good the audio book is, but the book itself is just OK by Brandon Sanderson standards.
  5. What I am suggesting is that - while the Mists might only have focused on 16 types of Mistings (Atium and Malatium replacing Cadmium and Bendalloy or Chromium and Nicrosil or whatever) - there still would have been naturally occurring Mistings of the unknown metals pre-ascension. Possibly also for all the different alloys of Atium, though I can only hypothesize on that point. The gap your talking about could have been filled either by one of the pairs of unknown metals or just higher percentages of the other types of Mistings, as suggested in my last post. But your right, if the Mists Snapped 16 different types of allomancers, we have little evidence to suggest either one, though Nicrosil/Chromium might make more sense as they're part of the enhancement quadrant, and because Cadmium/Bendalloy would take the place that was believed to be held by Atium/Malatium. I might have been wrong on that particular point. But it is a huge red-herring to focus too much on what the Mists might have Snapped or not. My main point is that I believe that the post-ascension metals was not allomantically inert pre-ascension. If they had discovered those metals, I believe Mistborns would have been able to burn them, and that Mistings for them would have existed within the population. The Mists, however, might not have been "programmed" to Snap some of these. I believe we have enough evidence to support this conclusion, though some of it is admittedly somewhat circumstantial. And lastly, in the spirit of repeating myself: as per WoB, Atium/Lerasium and their alloys have never been a part of the table, despite what the observers of the Scadrian magic system might have thought. The God metal and its alloys do not work in the same way as the other metals, and should thus not be lumped in with them, but considered apart of the Allomantic Table (along with the other God metal and its alloys, Lerasium).
  6. Try it - it is a lot of fun. Besides, if you have trouble solving the riddles, there is a support thread where you can get some help. Here is the link to get started.
  7. Your calculation skips a lot of steps. Let's try to do it properly: First, the facts: Kaladin is 19 years old in Rosharan years at the end of the Way of Kings. A Rosharan year is composed of 10 months, which again is divided into 10 weeks, then 5 days and lastly 20 hours. According to that quote of Peter Ahlstrom, a Rosharan hour is somewhere between one or two minutes shorter than an Earth hour. This means that a Rosharan year is composed of somewhere betwixt 10x10x5x20x58=580000 or 10x10x5x20x59=590000 minutes. An Earth year is composed of 365,26x24x60=525974 minutes. This makes a Rosharan year somewhere between 1,10 or 1,12 Earth years. Turns out you were correct. It just annoyed me I couldn't see the calculation. In conclusion, Kaladin is - at the end of the Way of Kings - just around 21 years old in Earth years, depending on when in 1154 EoS he was born, what month tWoK ends in and finally exactly how many minutes shorter a Rosharan hour is. EDIT: @GreyPilgrim. Impressive calculation! And given that this isn't just some major coincidence - which I highly doubt - I must say that my respect for the meticulousness of Brandon's work just got increased tenfold! EDIT 2: We now have WoP that a Rosharan year is in fact 1,1 Earth years.
  8. Where do you get this from? As far as I know, we do not have any information about the length of a Rosharan year. We know that there are ten months in a year, but not how long these months are. Would you care to elaborate?
  9. Welcome to the 17th Shard! We are a lovely - if a bit flat-out crazy - community in which I hope you'll find a place. As a first question, do you have a favourite amongst Brandon's books?
  10. I was not familiar with this WoB. It doesn't however change much other than canonize that the Mists didn't Snap any Nicrosil/Chromium Allomancers. In fact, I disagree with your last statement, because the wording seems to confirm that these metals weren't Allomatically inert pre-ascension. They were "[taken] took out the most unlikely (difficult to make and use) metals for his sign to his followers", which means they were there to be excluded from the Mists' Snapping in the first place. Atium is not and never were a part of the Allomantic metals. The sixteen we know now were the same pre-ascension. Only difference was that Mistings for the then unknown metals weren't Snapped by the Mists, and when Snapped on their own, they had no way of knowing what they were. EDIT: Whether or not there are still Atium and Malatium Mistings post-ascension (though the metals themselves aren't available) remains to be seen.
  11. I bring them up because there is by no means clear what type of Allomancers that the Mists Snapped. The only things they tested for at Fadrex City was Thugs, Tineyes, Coinshots and Lurchers as those were the only ones immediately useful against the Koloss attack. We don't know how big a portion of the remaining people did not find the metals they could burn. For all we know, the Mists could have ignored the potential Mistings that wouldn't help against Ruin, such as the ones for either useless (Gold, Malatium, Duralumin and Aluminum (maybe also Brass, Zinc, Copper and Bronze) Mistings) or unknown (Chromium, Nicrosil, Cadmium and Bendalloy). We already know that he Snapped a lot of people who would never have snapped on their own, so these might have helped filled out the 16% quota. It was the number itself that was important, not necessarily the number of different types of Mistings Snapped by the Mists. Also, for context, here is the full quote from Yomen:
  12. Come on, guys! Give this guy some more up-votes love!
  13. I've asked PrncRny to get help with Figgldygrak from Brandon when he goes to a signing later today.
  14. Actually, it might be better to ask this way. I think that list has gotten a bit out of hand, and some of them might already have been answered. EDIT: Also, could you ask him if Wit's conversation with Dalinar - the one where he talks about gibberish - actually contains several anagrams? We have discovered that Balderdash = Shardblade, but we cannot for the life of us find anything for Figgldygrak, even though several members have created computer programs to search through every possibly one, two or three word letter combinations of known English words.
  15. O_o! Could you ask him directly if there were Cadmium/Bendalloy and Nicrosil/Chromium Mistings (though unknowingly so) during the Lord Ruler's era? If he doesn't RAFO that, could you also ask whether or not the Mists Snapped those as well during the events of Mistborn: the Hero of Ages?
  16. I think you've fallen into the trap of postulating a bit much here. First of all, we do not know that all of the Shin know of Szeth's abilities, and while we do not know how Szeth became a Truthless, it is a rather bold to claim that it was because he failed to not pick up his Shardblade. In fact, it seems to have more to do with what he knows or claims than what he has done. There is a quote in the Prologue about the Voidbringers, where he claims that "his punishment demanded that they [did not exist]" while his "honour demanded that they did". Anyway, welcome to the forum! And congratulations (and up-vote) on your first post! Now, do not let my refutation of your hypothesis discourage you. Keep going strong!
  17. Swimmingly, you are quickly becoming the one on this forum to whom I've handed out the most up-votes. And that is all the while I'm secretly trying not to, as I've just almost caught up to you! I should really fry (and eat) you!
  18. I can make this exceedingly long if I have to, but I'll try to do it short: There are 16 allomantic metals. Atium, despite of what was believed during the Lord Ruler's era, was never part of the allomantic metals1, as it is of Ruin and works slightly differently. The "proper" Allomantic metals are what Allomancers burn to get access to Preservation's (later Harmony's) power2. Atium, on the other hand, is (a small amount of) Ruin's power, and is metabolised directly in order to fuel its allomantic effects3. This means then, that the newly discovered metals were always a part of the Allomantic table, with Nicrosil/Chromium being the external opposites of Duralumin/Aluminum and Cadmium/Bendalloy the external opposites of Gold/Electrum. Now, there whether or not the Mistings of these Metals existed prior to Harmony's ascension might be subject to debate, but there is an unquestionable precedent for unwitting Mistings4, although it seems likely that these were not Snapped by the Mists. There is a WoB somewhere stating this, but I can't relocate it right now. I'll try again later.
  19. I SHALL NEVER SUBMIT Sure, no problem.
  20. Unfortunately, I agree with you, at least partially. Ete'ni has a point though. We shouldn't be arrogant for having been given the chance to discover something others have not. But we do live in a culture of mass consumption. There are people who just prefer to digest fast-foods without ever thinking that there might be something better out there, and who prove impervious to any attempt at expanding their palate.
  21. I actually like this one less than the other one. And why is Kaladin looking out towards us? It would be better if he was looking at Szeth or down on the ground. 'Twould look more dramatic that way.
  22. I WANNA BE AN AXE-QUISITOR!!!!!
  23. He is referring to George R. R. Martin and his a Feast for Crows, not Robert Jordan and a Memory of Light.
  24. I do not think so, but it might be worth a look.
