  1. All joking about Renarin aside, I think Szeth is going to ask to be killed. I don't think that Kaladin will do it, but I do see Dalinar doing it after getting his questions answered.
  2. I'll go with Amaram then. Everyone seems to want him dead.
  3. Is it bad that I'm tempted to say Renarin, just to see the fallout?
  4. That's pretty close. I just couldn't figure out how to say that with out several swear words. I really don't like Joffrey. #RoastJoffrey
  5. I was going to make another comparison, but I can't talk about Joffrey with out cursing.
  6. I agree that Odium does not have to be evil. The definition has it as the "general or widespread hatred or disgust directed toward someone as a result of their actions." While it's true that hatred doesn't usually result in positive interactions, it also doesn't have to be evil. A better person could have taken up Odium and as a result became more and more disgusted by the evil actions of people. They still would probably end up a tyrant, but one that punished more acceptable actions.
  7. I've been looking and so far all I've found is this: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/590-the-three-parts-of-magic/?p=10413 Where Chaos says that Brandon explicitly told him the focuses in Awakening were the Commands. Edit: And now I found this: http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=1037 QUESTIONWhat is the definition of a focus (in The Way of Kings' Ars Arcanum)? BRANDON SANDERSONFoci, though linked to the magic system, are more like artifacts of the philosophy surrounding the magic system. A focus is a philosophical concept, rather than a hardfast rule related to the magic system. A man-made, artificial way of explaining the magic system. Like the periodic table. So, I'm now more confused than ever.
  8. I suspect there would be glyph's for 38, Days, End, All, and Nations. From that you could get several translations, one of which would be the one in Renarin's quote. That aside, have I missed Feather's comment on Renarin reading? I can't believe she doesn't have an opinion.
  9. I thought we had a WoB that the focus of awakening was the command? So we would have: Planet Focus Fuel Roshar Gemstone Stormlight Scadrial Metal Mists Nalthis Command Color Sel I haven’t read Elantris, so I’m not sure about these Looking at this doesn't the focus of Nalthis seem off? I think we might need a three part system to account for the three realms. So instead we might have: Planet Focus Intent Fuel Roshar Gemstone Cut and Setting Stormlight Scadrial Metal Burn Mists Nalthis Spoken Command Visualization Color Sel I haven’t read Elantris, so I’m not sure about these This would give a physical focus that is shaped by a cognitive intent and fueled by something infused with spiritual energy. Edit: stupid tables don't post.
  10. It's possible that the other lurkers may join after WoR. Personally I was one of those guests until the Shardhunt got me to join, even then I didn't plan on posting. It wasn't until I had a theory, that I didn't see anyone else addressing, that I started posting. And now that I've started, I'm finding it harder to stop than to keep posting. It also doesn't hurt that the community is very polite, nice, supportive, and a few more positive adjectives. I also like that posters usually build on an idea from a previous post, it makes the discussions very constructive. I've seen some forums on other sites where that is not the case.
  11. You could read the Spiritweb article on the Coppermind wiki. I don't think it has any spoilers.
  12. Does Elhokar have a son? If so maybe it's being kept in storage until he comes of age.
  13. Since Syl told Kaladin that she could stop the process, I think it would've been possible for the bonded spren to let go of the blades. If that is true they wouldn't have been killed, just left lost and mindless. I think this because I seem to remember Syl saying that she remembered being bonding before she bonded to Kaladin. So she at least wasn't killed by the Radiants abandonment of their blades. I however don't think she was trapped in the physical realm the whole time because of the following WoR spoiler. On a slightly different topic, can a Hemalurgic spike steal an Awakened object? If so, with no spren attached, could you consider a Shardblade a Hemalurgicly stolen Type III Awakened object?
  14. Doesn't Shallan say something in WoK about it being odd to love a monster like her father? I don't have the book to check, but I seem to remember her saying something like that when reflecting on her family.
  15. Unless I'm mistaken that is a pic of Richard from the Looking for Group webcomic.
  16. While watching the weather channel they played the following segment. http://youtu.be/v49RNXNzLTs When I saw it I immediately though of the Stormfather. Unfortunately nobody was around that would get the joke, so I'm posting it here.
  17. I seem to remember that there was a WoB that you could do it, if you knew what you were doing.
  18. I don't think the theory was about how the shadblades cut, but about how they bond to the wielder. I think they are created in much the same way as Awakened objects, in that you place a part of your spiritweb into the blade. The difference is that when the original owners gave up their blades they left them open so that others could use them, because unless I am mistaken an Awakend object only really works for the one that gave it breath. But this leaving them open is how they are more like Hemalurgy, since the second owner would be stealing the spiritweb of the original owner and grafting it to their own spiritweb. Additionally they might cut the way they do because they were given a command like cut spiritwebs.
  19. I wouldn't say that. I just finished reading Warbreaker, so I've been thinking about the comparison of Nightblood to Shardblades. I hadn't thought about the Hemalurgy comparison until I read your post.
  20. I've been thinking something similar. So modern shardblades would be more like Hemalurgy, since they would bind a part of someone else's spirit web to you. However the original shardblades would be more like Awakening, since I see them as placing part of your spirit web into an object.
  21. So it's the listener version of "♫ I'm not listening ♫"?
  22. Here's another question then, does a human have to observe a fire for firespren to appear? So if there was a fire in the wilderness with no one observing it could a firespren appear? It kind of sounds like you are saying that there would not be enough cognitive pressure around that fire for a spren to manifest.
  23. Moogle I really like your musings. It seems like there is an importance to having an aspect in all three realms. Kind of like a tripod, if you are missing a leg you are in some way imbalanced. It seems like the Spiritual Realm provides the drive or motivation, the Cognitive Realm provides the will or intent, and the Physical Realm provides the means. So Parshmen and Lifeless, who seem be lacking the connection to the spiritual, can fulfill an intent but need an outside motivator. Spren have the opposite problem they have the drive and intent but need a connection to the physical for it to be realized. Nightblood and the various Shards seem to have an overabundance of drive and intent, which overwhelms them and therefor limits what they can actualize in the physical realm.
  24. I think that if Darkness is Nalan, he is trying to justify his abandonment of the oath pact. I think he eventually focused on the uptick in the number of surgebinders right before a desolation, which caused him to make a correlation error. Because an increase in surgebinders before a desolation does not necessarily imply that surgebinding causes desolations. However since he abandoned his oaths with just the barest hope that it might stop the next desolation, he justifies his decision by forcing it on everyone else as well.
  25. If this is true wouldn't Drab's and Parshmen be similar? I've not read Warbreaker, but they seem to have some fundamental differences. I think Drab's still have internal motivation, but a Parshman would sit were they were left until they died without outside instructions.
