  1. I didn't care about who killed Asmodean at all. When I found out it was a big deal to people, that's when I even considered caring. Just so many people have a reason too; literally both sides of the fight should want him dead. Kind of just accepted it. Anyway, Fires of Heaven was a good one. You should also take a minute with each of these posts to go back and laugh at the predictions you made previously, then create new ones. Not that they were all wrong or bad, it's just so hard to predict something 10 books in the future, hahaha. Anyway, glad you are still enjoying them. Keep pushing!
  2. Yeah that doesn't really make sense though. The question wasn't "How many Shards have ever taken extended vacations on Roshar?" They were all on Roshar. But if you wanna keep it open to all possibilities, I suppose Brandon could have been really shifty in his answer. I personally hope that is the case, because I love Roshar and the more significant it is, the better.
  3. Think about what it means though. If Adonalsium is on Roshar and is Shattered there, there are 16 Shards on the planet. Then some of them leave. The phrasing of the quote seems pretty clear, but I wouldn't have brought it up if I didn't think it was a possibility.
  4. Yolen. I'll try to find a quote. I know I have it. EDIT: Wow, I'm wrong. I don't have it. All I know is that Adonalsium is whole in Dragonsteel (and confirmed doesn't get shattered in the book), and that book takes place on Yolen. The odd part is that over the years things have changed a bit, and Brandon has taken things from Dragonsteel and used them in other books. He took the Shattered Plains from Yolen and put them on Roshar. It has been theorized that The Shattered Plains are the land where Adonalsium was Shattered, causing their structure, but I think WoR kind of disproved that. So now I'm left not knowing fully, but Yolen was the first appearance of humans in the Cosmere, and it kind of seems like the rest of the planets weren't inhabited fully until the Shards split up and settled on planets (or didn't settle on planets). I guess I still lean toward Yolen pretty hard, but I don't have the quote I thought I remember having. EDIT2: Oh also Chaos once asked how many Shards had ever been on Roshar, and Brandon answered "three," so that's a pretty good sign that Adonalsium wasn't shattered on Roshar.
  5. Dear and the Headlights. Outstanding band, shame they broke up
  6. I've been doing both from a very young age and never really understood the debate even though I consider myself fluent in most things gaming. There are many games that seem to very clearly belong on PC to me, and others that very clearly seem to belong on console. Like Panda said, FPS games feel better to me on my console. I could get very close to the same setup with a PC if I spent a fair amount of money and basically dedicated the layout of my house to be purely for gaming, but that is a bit much. It really boils down to this: when I want to buy a new game, I typically buy it for console. I keep a laptop with solid specs (solid enough) for PC gaming so that I have both mobility and a backup to my console (in case some game review says that the community is larger on PC for a particular game, etc.). My PC sees mostly MMO's and old games that I can buy for cheap. You can't deny the power of a Steam Sale EDIT: I can understand the debate if you are on a hard budget. The answer is then PC (and patience).
  7. Anberlin is a great recommendation. My favorite band is Coheed and Cambria. They write all of their songs based off of the lead singer's published sci-fi/fantasy stories, which are based off of his life (loosely). It makes for some really great lyrics when you understand what is going on, and some outstanding music even if you don't.
  8. I just finished my second run-through of AC4: Black Flag, I'm playing a lot of Madden 25 with a friend of mine, Titanfall, and I'm trying my best to get into the first Dragon Age game, but.... it needs to pick up a bit. I'm always subscribed to WoW and Hearthstone (meaning I play a lot), and I'm very excited for Destiny and Shadows of Mordor on XBO.
  9. No worries, I missed it on my first run too, which I later thought was shocking. (I seriously didn't intend on that being a pun) My favorite band too. They are on another level once you understand what they have going on top of the pure musical talent.... but I'll stop hijacking your board, haha.
  10. I'm interested in the topic but I haven't read that book in about 2 years now. The lightning came to mind as Leftinch said. I really came here to complement your profile picture - I've almost set the keywork as mine several times, but I try to stick to Fantasy images. I'm headed to their concert in Charlotte next month
  11. Huh... guess I always assumed Szeth couldn't swim. He doesn't strike me as an aquatic kind of guy, but welcome aboard!
  12. Hahaha, that is exactly it. And someone in the room is wearing "stout Two Rivers woolens."
  13. You're both right. In that book it is a little more understandable as they are all just starting to develop some of that stuff, but in the later books there is no justifying it. There is a certain amount of trust that should be built up after years and years of fighting for the same cause, being best friends, being romantically involved, etc. You'd just never know they weren't strangers if you hadn't read the other books. I mean come on, I think you can confide in the dude whose got your life and the lives of all others in his hands. He'd probably be a lot less erratic if he felt like he had any sort of companionship that wasn't a constant political chore, amirite?
  14. *I don't mean this post to be a request, just an expression of my thoughts as a fan who's fired up about any Brandon Sanderson material.* Maybe 3 times a week I go to BrandonSanderson.com with nothing else in mind but checking on the progress bars in his site header. I think it's one of the coolest things an author can do (especially considering the genre's writing habits) to post on the progress of each book. Recognizing that their existence is a gift in itself - I think those progress bars should be updated more frequently and emphasized for the sake of marketing Brandon's talents. For many authors, progress bars would be.... minimally helpful. Not many authors have as much in the works as Mr. Sanderson, and on top of the workload, Brandon has been writing series after series that just sink their hooks into my mind in a way that not many others accomplish. At the end of each book, I am left with a raw hunger for the next, and those progress bars are like the scent of a juicy steak grilling just for me. What I really mean to be saying (instead of just making myself physically hungry) is that I think those progress bars have huge potential. How many times have I read someone online say, for example "A new Dresden Files book is out?! How did I not know that?!" By going to that site, I know exactly what's coming down the pipe and have a good idea of when to expect it. That keeps me excited throughout the dry period when I stop following other series until I see the cover in a B&N storefront window. Progress bars keep fans hyped! Knowledgeable fans have got to be good for book sales, right? Brandon deserves that hype. He writes like a ravenous animal, or some kind of machine that just churns out fantasy brilliance. Whether he is a fearsome force of nature or a fantasy Awesome-o, his writing speed is well recognized at every update of those progress bars. He's got a good reputation because of that speed (which is really time spent) and could probably benefit from making that better known. It might also help this fansite to post a reflection of those progress bars in a similar fashion. Members who frequent 17thShard can tell you that one of the most recurring topics/posts is along the lines of "when is the next ____ coming out?" or "Is Brandon writing ____ or ____ next?" I imagine some Google searches lead new fans here before they ever get to Brandonsanderson.com, so it could actually be doing Brandon a favor to have them represented here as well. I recognize potential consequences though. The quality of writing should be considered first and foremost, and having to hit an unofficial "progress bar deadline" to meet fan expectations could cause some stress. Speaking from experience though, I know fans on this site at least are very patient and understanding (though hungry, as I noted). TL;DR - The progress bars on Brandon's site, if updated more frequently and presented in the right places, could be an excellent marketing tool to keep fans excited and up to date while showcasing his particular, genre-defying talents.
  15. I had trouble with a small case of dyslexia (undiagnosed and partially imaginary) when I first read The Way of Kings as well as on these forums when I joined. I kept seeing the word "Shardbearer" and my head translated it to "Shardbear." It's a pretty fun image if anyone ever sat down and got creative with it. Made a joke about someone riding a Shardbear, and how they would easily be the most powerful character in the series. I guess I aspire to be that man. Gotta say, I've never really looked around at those before. They are grey and incognito, so I glide right over them. Good topic!
  16. The biggest fault being terrible decision making time after time. I won't get too deep into the constant complaint on WHY THE HECK ALL OF THESE "FRIENDS" DON'T EVER TALK TO EACH OTHER, which is the worst decision out there, but after the ending of the Dragon Reborn, I couldn't stand that the characters pretty much ignore what happened in order to handle their personal priorities. I like how the story goes, don't get me wrong, but don't you think someone would have considered that there are more important things going on and they should stay together? The first time I read through it really irked me.
  17. Yeah, Brandon stated plainly that the Interlude characters (less the recurring ones) don't really need to be remembered, they are just used as a tool to build the world or provide insight into developments in other places. If Axies does have a role, I think he's going to meet up with the couple that was working on documenting spren traits and they are going to actually make some good progress. But he doesn't necessarily have to have a future roll at all.
  18. Yeah I forgot to mention that. Everyone who even remotely considers themselves an Aes Sedai is irritating in some capacity, and most are as plain as a brown (ajah) paper bag.
  19. I haven't read your other threads; this is your first WoT read? I'll assume it is based on some of the sentences. The Shadow Rising was my least favorite book on my first read through (back when there were only 11 books), and on my second read through, it was my absolute favorite out of those original 11. I had a lot of the same complaints as you the first time around. Female characters seem to be lumped under the category of "Women - which act like [this]" and that can be really frustrating. But don't give up on them. Throughout the series most of them experience a significant change in behavior, at least for a while. Egwene used to bug me to no end, but by book 13 Egwene was one of my favorites. As the characters fall more into their actual roles, you'll find they were kind of just waiting for that moment to really be their true personality. Keep it up though! I'm going to watch out for these threads now that I know someone is posting reactions. WoT is my favorite series, so I love seeing people's reactions whether they enjoy it or not.
  20. Amen! Except I have a more optimistic outlook on Nightblood's potential. I just want to see him do more, and I'm hopeful that Zahel will be forced to open up discussion with the good guys on the existence of other worlds and the origin of Nightblood in hopes of reigning in Szeth. Unless of course Szeth finds it in him to be decent..... fat chance. I could do with an space/time suck-rift that removes all of my least favorite characters though! I've still never seen an author try that. Anyone know of a book where all of the bad things are just suddenly suck-rifted away?
  21. In general I don't care nearly as much as others about Stick or Renarin. I just don't see the charisma that other users here seem to have latched onto. I hope that changes with Renarin in the next book, though. His reveal as a KR was the first moment that, after sighing, I gained a genuine interest and curiosity for his character. I don't dislike either, but I don't have the passion that others do. To bring a brighter side to this conversation, there are characters that I love that are not generally perceived the way that I read them. Lirin is one of my greatest hopes for the series. Probably because of my personal life experiences, Father/Son relationships are more significant to me than many others, and Lirin has the wisdom and determination that I value in that sort of character. I've seen Brandon write a beautiful father/son scene in another series that gives me high hopes for the potential relationship between two of my favorite SA characters. PS. I respect your opinion, but Hoid is fascinating if you consider the implications of nearly any of his actions or use them to piece together what is an undoubtedly significant role in the Cosmere. And he is our best chance at seeing multiple magic systems working together! Alright, alright, I'll stop....
  22. Yeah, I think Dalinar will have too much on his plate off the field to be Nightblood's best option, I actually prefer Szeth because he is so mad. They would certainly match. Both have the loose understanding of morality that would just feed each other, and Szeth has some crazy skills that could put that power to good use. I would love if Szeth's/Nightblood's story was our side quest that settled the score with some of the baddie spren/forces of nature. If Zahel got him back at the end, that'd be cool too, just to kind of show off what he is capable of with his long lost friend. I still think Adolin's vague sense of morality is a good match for Nightblood too, so there aren't a lot of scenarios that would really disappoint me other than Kaladin having him. But I think he found his home already, with Szeth.
  23. That has not been confirmed, though I'm pretty sure he says straight up that he is a spren. Theorize away though!
